Heerree's Johnny!
« on: May 19, 2008, 04:41:00 PM »
Just wanted to give a big thank you to everyone that helped me get the information I needed to help my dog get better regarding his skin condition. As some of you know, Johnny suffered from some really bad skin problems that resulted in massive amounts of fur loss, particularly around his groin area, ears, legs and sides, (I guess I shoulda just said his whole body.) He stunk something fierce and had chronic ear infections, his chest would be fire red.

Anyway, after a  couple of years of trial and error I learned that a diet of raw turkey, egg and a tiny bit of greens works best for him. We also change it up with white fish and chicken and a little oatmeal. We also purchased a new bed full of cedar wood chips in it that not only got rid of his yeasty stink but helped with his rashes because mites hate cedar. His ears don't smell nearly as bad as they used to either but we're still working on making them even better.

After trying everything from pills to shots, to all kinds of shampoos we found that this has worked best for him, however I should still point out that on his worst days I still have to give him 5mg of prednisone to help with his inflammation once in a while. Regardless the improvements he's made over that last year have been amazing and he's a much more relaxed and happy dog as the pictures obviously show.

Thanks again, particularly Flower, for all the advice.

Believe me I tried. He goes nuts until I thorw the thing and then all he does is run past it and ignore it. He's too cool for that kinda stuff.  :)

haha!

Good looking dog chafednutsack!  What kind of mix is he?

Glad he is doing so well.  Maybe instead of a frisbee he would like a ball?
