Author Topic: Has any wrestler done well after retiring? (Read 10865 times)

After hanging up the boots has any wrestler ever managed to have a comfortable life? We all hear the tragic stories of wrestlers being down and out and resorting to signing autographs at comic conventions (Virgil) or wrestling in a VWF hall for $50.

Not counting people like JBL or Dibiase who made their fortune in unrelated areas afterwards. Or people like Rock, Steve Austin, Batista, who landed Hollywood gigs.

The only person I seem to know doing ok is DDP.

Most of the successful ones, though, are well off BECAUSE they partook in outside ventures.

I hear mixed comments about Flair.
Some make it sound like he's hurting. Others suggest he's well off.

During a podcast with Hogan, he admitted to owning ten Gold's Gyms at one point.
But, I've also heard of some of his business ventures going belly-up.

Apparently, Triple H bailed him out of a deal gone sour with Highspots.com. Supposedly, Flair put up his original NWA title as collateral. When he didn't deliver on his end, Highspots put the belt up for auction.

Who knows?

Don't believe everything you hear...he is doing very well. All debts are paid off and he's worth a cool 7 mill. He has other ventures and an energy drink that are netting him good coin.

He also got himself a new agent.

To add to the list, I always got the feeling that Piper did well for himself. He hopped on the bandwagon of touring as a one-man show for a time. He regularly appeared on TV and in films for many years. He took long, frequent brakes from wrestling - giving the impression he didn't "need" the work.

I saw him and his family on a home show, in which they were buying a house shortly before he passed. Their possessions and attitude strongly indicated a humble, frugal, practical lifestyle. Like the Poffo's, I suspect the Toombs' family was very responsible with their finances.

I know! That's why I was surprised when I saw him & Kitty looking at houses in California.
I'll try to find a link to the TV episode in which they appeared. The areas weren't exactly "secluded."

I remember reading and seeing pictures of her driving monster trucks, but I know nothing about her husband.

I forget which HOF class has her in it. I think it's 2015. But, she gives an emotional shoutout to her hubby. And she ends her speech with her taking the old WWF Women's championship from 1995 out of a trash can.

And she inducted Moolah in the HOF in the mid-90s, which gets me back to why it was such a controversy to name that Battle Royal after Moolah (if her misgivings were the worst kept secret in pro wrestling).

Yes, her hubby is a Marine and she does drive monster trucks as a hobby.

Several guys from back then have claimed that their Dad, Angelo, was notoriously ~~miserly~~ thrifty and very good at playing the stock market, and that the boys adopted a good degree of those traits.

I’ve heard similar accounts about both men. It sounds like they each worked in the business with the principle goal of providing for their families rather than living the frivolous party lifestyle that so many of their peers enjoyed.

Apparently, the Bulldogs were the same way - reportedly beyond cheap on the road, but spared no expense on their families. (Domestic issues aside; I’m only referring to the financial/material component.)
