Idjit actually challenged DeSantis to a debate via twitter.  We've got a 30-month-old C-19 state of emergency, and he'll waste time harassing another governor.
Newsom is a scumbag. He's building his campaign around the fact that women are allowed to kill babies at will in CA. Not going to address his failed immigration policies, his high tax policies, his ability to run businesses out of this state faster than he can raise taxes, the list goes on...

Withheld, it seems, until after the November election.

https://edsource.org/2022/state-delays-public-release-of-english-math-and-science-test-score-results-to-later-this-year/678462

State delays public release of English, math and science test score results to later this year

ln a significant departure, the California Department of Education is withholding the release of the results of the Smarter Balanced tests that students took last spring until an undetermined date later this year. The result will be a monthslong delay before the public can view results in English language arts, math and science for the state, districts, schools and charter schools.

The denial of EdSource’s request to release test score data comes at a time when educators are concerned about the pandemic’s impact on reading and math progress, especially in the early years. Releasing scores “later this year” means that the public will learn about spring test results for third-graders who are now well into fourth grade.

The California Department of Education told EdSource that it is withholding the scores now, so they can be simultaneously released with other data for the California School Dashboard, such as student absentee rates, suspension rates and rates of chronic absenteeism. The dashboard provides a detailed look at school and district metrics, broken down by student demographic groups. The data is used to determine which low-performing districts require state assistance.

San Diego saw a record-high of 1,609 homeless people in the downtown area alone earlier this month, and Bill Walton has had enough. The NBA legend has sent a number of emails to Mayor Todd Gloria about the crisis and how he has failed. Now, Walton is making his complaints public.

According to The Voice of San Diego, Walton emailed Mayor Gloria as early as Aug. 28 about his failures while explaining that he had recently been assaulted by the homeless while riding his bike.

Next are stoves and clothes dryers.

California Takes Steps To Ban Sale Of New Natural Gas Furnaces, Heaters

California is taking action to make it the first state in the country to get rid of natural gas water heaters and furnaces in houses.

A new proposal was approved in a unanimous vote on Thursday by the California Air Resources Board. The state will prohibit the sale of new natural gas space heaters, as well as water heating equipment, by 2030, according to the new plan. The measure is part of efforts that California is moving toward in order to reduce emissions and meet federal air-quality baselines.

Now, California agencies must create a regulation for getting rid of the gas-fueled equipment that will be ultimately voted on in 2025. The measure does not incorporate gas stoves, even though around 50 municipalities around the state have reportedly created rules that either prohibit or frown upon using gas stoves in new construction.

Progressive Mind Over Matter in California. No gas furnaces after 2030, and all big rigs must be electric.

Nothing—including cost or reality—will keep California progressives from their effort to turn the state into a grand carbon-free economic experiment. The state Air Resources Board moved this week to ban gas space and water heaters in 2030 and proposed that all big rig trucks must go electric.

Cities such as San Francisco and Oakland have passed electric-only building mandates. The air board is now forcing everyone else to get with it by prohibiting the sale of gas furnaces by the end of the decade, even though they are generally less expensive and last longer than electric heat pumps.

Come 2030, homeowners and businesses whose furnaces break down could be forced into expensive electrical retrofits. If you like your gas furnace, sorry, you won’t be able to replace it with a new one. The mandate comes as electricity rates in the state surge, and the grid wobbles amid a shortage of baseload power when the sun goes down.

Californians were told during a heat wave a couple of weeks ago not to run large appliances or charge electric cars in peak hours. Soon blackout warnings could happen during the winter. Will Californians have to avoid running hot water and heating their homes too? Even in California, it can get chilly when the sun goes down.

These grid strains could be exacerbated by the Air Resources Board’s proposal to ban the sale of diesel and gas trucks by 2040. Such large fleet operators as Amazon and UPS would have to start making the transition to an all-electric fleet in a few years. Yet the charging network and technology needed to meet the mandate is all but nonexistent.

Long-haul diesel trucks can go some 1,000 miles before needing to fill up, which takes 10 to 15 minutes.

Once he got a taste of the power of a "state of emergency," he won't let it go.

https://californiaglobe.com/articles/gov-newsom-vetoes-bill-to-limit-his-emergency-powers/

Gov. Newsom Vetoes Bill to Limit his Emergency Powers
‘This was his opportunity to show Californians that he recognizes the power of his office and respects its limits’

California Governor Gavin Newsom just vetoed a bill which would have limited a governor’s (his) emergency powers during a state of emergency, to the specific issues of the emergency, and specifies that the Governor may only suspend a statute or regulation during a state of emergency in connection with the specific conditions of that emergency.

The purpose behind the bill is to clarify the broad ambiguities of the Governor’s authorized powers and ensure that these powers are limited and focused, according to the bill’s author Assemblyman Kelly Seyarto (R-Murrieta).

After more than two and a half years of emergency powers – more than 900 days – ostensibly for the Covid pandemic, Gov. Newsom’s veto of AB 1687 appears self-serving.

Despite Newsome's name climate control in California is not something 'new'. I started a long time ago.

Due to its unique climate conditions, California has long been a forerunner in climate control. I grew up in smoggy Southern California. Some days you either stayed indoors or went to the coast/beach to avoid smog.

California - ever the forerunner: On August 30, 1967, California's elected leaders came together to unify statewide efforts to address severe air pollution. Governor Ronald Reagan approved the Mulford-Carrell Air Resources Act to create the State Air Resources Board, committing California to a unified, statewide approach to aggressively address the serious issue of air pollution in the state.

Act of 1967 was enacted, giving California the ability to set its own more stringent air quality rules due to California's unique geography, weather and expanding number of people and vehicles.

The state to set its own separate and stricter-than-federal vehicle emissions regulations to address the extraordinary circumstances of population, climate and topography that generated the worst air in the nation.

-regulatory history reflects a longstanding partnership between state and federal air quality regulators during both Republican and Democratic presidential administrations. This partnership has allowed California to develop and implement air pollution control strategies that have proven to be a model for other states, the nation and other countries.

Some of the innovative vehicle emission control strategies that have led to cleaner air in California include:

The nation’s first tailpipe emissions standards for hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide (1966), oxides of nitrogen (1971), and particulate matter from diesel-fueled vehicles (1982);
Catalytic converters, beginning in the 1970s;
On-board diagnostic, or “check engine” light, systems, beginning with 1988 model-year cars;
Zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) regulation (1990) that requires manufacturers to produce an increasing number of ZEVs;
The nation’s first greenhouse gas emissions standards for cars (mandated by the Legislature in 2002 and approved by CARB in 2004); and California’s Advanced Clean Cars Program (2012), which reduces both conventional “criteria” and greenhouse gas pollutant emissions from automobiles.
In the 1980s and ‘90s, California cars became the cleanest in the world, and California’s fuel became the cleanest, too.

...The Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, was signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger...

Its broad range of programs to reduce greenhouse gases addresses every major sector of the economy including a zero-emission vehicle mandate that will clean up the transportation sector and put close to 1.5 million plug-in or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the roads by 2025.

Los Angeles officials had banned backyard incinerators on October 1, 1957, in an attempt to cure Southern California's air pollution problem. When I was a kid living in West Los Angeles, we had a backyard incinerator which we used almost daily. When I was 13 years old in 1957, our house had an indoor incinerator in the kitchen. Not sure if they were outlawed yet or not, but we used ours.

The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District passed Rule 4901 in 2003 stating that only gas burning fireplaces can be built into new homes.

In 2016 Southern California, in both Orange and Los Angeles counties, passed a law banning adding an open-hearth wood-burning fireplace to an existing home, due to air quality concerns. Thus any new open-hearth fireplace must have a gas or alcohol-fueled log set.

Enacted in 1992, the 20-year period for replacing all-wood-shingle roofs with less fire-prone material nearing its Aug. 14, 2012, deadline, 128 homes have yet to make the transition.

AB 1279 passed Assembly Jan 31, 2022; Passed Senate Aug 30, 2022, which codifies the state’s existing goal of carbon neutrality by 2045. Carbon neutrality means a balance between the carbon added to the atmosphere and the carbon removed.

Arnold did call for a 25 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2020... guess that makes him a RINO in some folks minds. Arnold decided to be a Republican when he heard Nixon speak in 1968 shortly after his arrival in the U.S. On the other hand his former wife Maria Shriver is a Democrat, so there's that.

All Eyes on Gov. Newsom as California Looks to Pass Nation’s First Law to Punish Doctors for COVID ‘Misinformation’
California Assembly Bill 2098, passed Aug. 29 by the California Senate and now awaiting Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signature, would subject doctors and others to disciplinary action — including having their licenses to practice medicine in California suspended or revoked — for spreading COVID-19 “misinformation.”

California is poised to become the first state to take legal action against medical practitioners accused of spreading COVID-19 “misinformation or disinformation.”

California Assembly Bill 2098 (AB 2098), passed Aug. 29 by the California Senate and now awaiting Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signature, would subject doctors and others to disciplinary action — including having their licenses to practice medicine in California suspended or revoked — for spreading “vaccine disinformation.”

The bill, which states that some of the most “dangerous propagators” of inaccurate information about COVID-19 vaccines are licensed healthcare professionals, declares it to be “unprofessional conduct” for a physician and surgeon to disseminate “misinformation or disinformation related to COVID-19, including false or misleading information regarding the nature and risks of the virus, its prevention and treatment; and the development, safety, and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines.”

Gov. Newsom, who has until Sept. 19 to sign the bill, has not yet taken a public position on it, The New York Times reported.

The bill defines “misinformation” as any “false” information that is “contradicted by contemporary scientific consensus contrary to the standard of care.”

Newsom signed it.

This New York Times article on the failure of California’s high speed rail reminds me of the chapter “The Moratorium on Brains” from Ayn Rand’s 1957 novel Atlas Shrugged

This New York Times article on the failure of California’s high speed rail reminds me of the chapter “The Moratorium on Brains” from Ayn Rand’s 1957 novel Atlas Shrugged.

In that chapter from the fictional book, everyone on a passenger train died because the train was controlled by politics instead of common sense.

This new article from the New York Times explains how the real world train’s ridiculous, absurd, irrational route was chosen based on politics instead of on common sense.

The New York Times article states:

“… the design for the nation’s most ambitious infrastructure project was never based on the easiest or most direct route. Instead, the train’s path out of Los Angeles was diverted across a second mountain range to the rapidly growing suburbs of the Mojave Desert – a route whose most salient advantage appeared to be that it ran through the district of a powerful Los Angeles county supervisor.”

Wow. That’s just dumb.

The article then goes on to state many different reasons why the project is so far behind schedule, and so far over budget. These blunders are the result of decisions being made based on politics instead of on logic.

By comparison, look at the very successful high speed rail in other parts of the world, such as Japan and Western Europe. They designed and built their high speed rail systems based on logic and rational thinking, not politics.

You can read Rand’s entire novel for free at this link. The chapter that I mentioned begins on page 523.

I lived through that history lesson grandpa, thanks though. ::)

You are welcome. Fortunately, I missed it. In 1966 my wife and I escaped the California rat race and moved to Oregon. Some of us luckier folks saw what was in California's future and others did not.

Many of our friends and family followed our lead, so there was not much reason to visit California. I doubt I am missing out on much. Even Disneyland get old after awhile.  ;)
