Is this a record of some sort? I can't keep up with such things.
That's a good question, Hulkotron.
Truth be told, there are SO MANY records, that they don't automatically mean a lot. But this one does.
That IS the heaviest bench press ever, but he did it in the gym, and not in a sanctioned powerlifting meet, or a sanctioned bench press meet. But that IS the heaviest raw bench press ever successfully completed.
I am aiming for a specific record, but it would be the Canadian u-80kg record. The thing is, there are so many obscure records, that people can have the 40-45 Master's American record in a specific weight class in a specific organization.
Also, you have John Haack, who has the 200-lb / 90-kg record in powerlifting, with a total of something like 2,000-lb [maybe more], and in the same organization, you have heavier guys who lifted more, yet have the record in that organization, in that heavier weight class.
As Mark Bell said in his interview with John, those are fake records.
How can a guy who is heavier than John but who totalled less have the weight class record [say in the 100-kg weight class], when John is under that weight, and totalled more?
This is why powerlifting records are so confusing.
And for Strongman, it's an even more niche sport, and you have records that could be broken, but just haven't been attempted at people who may have been able to beat them. I think a 260-lb log press would be a u-80kg Canadian record. That's still not impressive by Getbig standards, but it would be nice to do it anyway.
And some of the records, as impressive as they are, have simply never been tried since:
