4 plates on hammer strength press
« on: July 28, 2014, 05:53:00 AM »
Managed it for 1 rep today. The inclined chest press, not the declined one. I have done 5 1/2 plates declined before. But 4 is now my pb on the inclined  one.

I like it too, mainly cos I'm sitting up, you don't get that head rush you get when laying flat on a bench and I find it easier on my shitty shoulder.

4 plates is respectable indeed....same weight as Phil Heath

This is very weak.

Subtract 40% of that and that is your free weight "power".

Nothing to write home about.

incline hammer is always hard for me, no matter what height I set the seat at.

not sure why anyone would do a one rep max on a machine though  ???

depending on how you do them you can favour the weight gong on delts, tris or pecs, but as a pec exercise i try the latter. the max lift would be narrower and higher up so the weight goes on tris and delts and pecs last, but i do them as a pec exercise.

honestly plate for plate the incline hammer feels almost comparable for me.

there is a hammer at my old gym that was a "wide chest" loved that machine. I would usually throw four or five plates on i... good movement.

but keep in mind that no one cares how strong you are when you look like a grocery bag filled with mashed potatoes.

It depends, at some point during the range it's hard, at others it easy.

Can adjust seating position too, making it something lie decline presses.

Sorry, but it's not the same at all, try benching 4 plates each side and report ho that felt:-)

Haha. I never touch more than 2 plates when I am feeling dumb enough to go on the shoulder destroyer bench press. I'm going to go to the gym today, I'll get a look at what brand of machine it is, maybe its not a hammer that I'm referring to

I can't wait to see that.

You mean free weights, right?

Make sure to post the video, i say you will not get a single rep of either.
Not next week, not in this life.

VP, you have probably got the right machine, they do feel very heavy at certain points during the movement.
Must not go for max lifts, try with 2 plates and compare.

Well, this doesn't count for shit, then.

Get on free weights, or at least in a smith machine and try 220kgs.

Everybody has seen your pictures and it doesn't take an expert to roughly guess your "strenght".

You can even do 140kgs for reps, stop throwing around big numbers.

Lockout on the hs incline is very hard with slow reps.. those machines were designed for idiots to bounce through their sets so if you try to squeeze up it kicks your ass at the end. No wonder so few people lock out on them.

The bottom of the rep is shoulder death on most of those things if you go to touch the rubber.. brutal over stretch and your shoulders roll up and internally rotate because of the weird arc at the very end.

I rarely use over 2 plates a side and squeeze up and down, stopping a few inches from the bottom. One arm at a time is great for this kind squeezing training as you can totally focus on the pecs moving the weight
