Title: What to eat/drink to avoid catabolism
Post by: Arnold Palmer on September 19, 2007, 09:19:10 PM
My football practices are about 2 and a half hours long.  Would it be best to drink a gatorade or protien shake or both before practice?  Im asking because Ive heard both from different people.  Some say drinking protien will keep your body from turning to its own muscle for amino acids.  Others say gatorade makes sure you body is using carbs for engergy souce and not protien or your bodys muscle tissue.

Also, would creatine before practice help improve indurance?

Don't drink protein before, drink an amino acid/carb drink, have the protein after.

BCAAs + Creatine.  That's it.

I'd say a carbohydrate solution (like Gatorade) and some BCAAs is probably the best way to go.

If I were you...I'd have 5g of glutamine and a handful of BCAA caps before your practice or game or whatever. Afterwards...40g of whey isolate and 2-3g of creatine.

Thanks for the advice guys, im going to take BCAA pills before practice and possibly gatorade.

Only problem with gatorade is that my body doesnt tolerate sugar too well, or any quick absorbing carb for that matter. I actually feel kinda sluggish and lathargic after drinking gatorade. Could this be an insuline problem?
