Pull-ups and chins win
Anyone who substitutes pull-ups or chins with pull downs if not injured

I haven't done pull downs in years. Before I used to do both, because the pro's did pulldowns  ::).  Dropped the pulldowns because it became  a pain in the ass to bring the weight down and get my legs under the pads when the weight began to outweigh me by quite a bit. Now I just do weighted pull ups, chin ups, neutral grip, etc., still get sore and still get a great pump in my lats.

I can do a lot of pullups and usually use 75 lbs strapped to myself for a few reps even.  However, Lat Pulldowns are superior and I feel them much more than Pullups.

Humm. I prefer assisted or plain pull-ups. The motion is smoother and I feel I get a better pump.
But, being that my golds gym only has 1 pull-up bar and 1 assisted pull up station. And crossfitters and tapoutters love pull-ups, I do pull downs just to avoid the little fuckers.

I started using 2" thick dry sponges several years ago to improve my grip when doing pullups.  Works great.  The extra thickness of the sponge helps grip, which equates to extra reps.   Much better than lifting straps or lifting gloves.

I can't do one pullup.  :-[

My ex had a very hard time doing pullups when she was doing P90x.   For a full month I had her step up on a chair, grab the chinup bar, and then lower herself slowly for a count of ten.  I had her do 3 sets of negative only chins three times a week to build up her strength.  After one month she was able to perform 5 full reps of regular chinups.  A month before that she couldn't do more than 2!

a few yrs back there was an article in either Flex or Msuclemag on Pull ups vs lat pulldowns...
Notice how many big bodybuilders cannot do pull ups, but can do lat pulldowns.
