Here is a pic of Arnold and his then girlfriend, Barbara Outland Baker at the 1973 Mr. Olympia. This pic can be seen in her book, Arnold and Me: In the Shadow of the Austrian Oak with the anecdote of what happened on stage.

The story goes that when Arnold was declared Mr. Olympia 1973, the emcee announced that the future Mrs. Schwarzenegger was in the house and would be presenting his reward. Thus, when she handed him the plaque, he landed her a big fat kiss.

Arnold's first girlfriend when he landed on American soil. They dated from 1969-1975.

Why she wrote the book? Apparently, it was "the right time" for her. I will tell you it's a very good book. Worth reading.

I give him credit for liking someone with substance, to the extent that she didn't want to be part of a public lifestyle. And the fact that she didn't have to be a bimbo, was a teacher. He was just fine with that, it was her decision not to keep it together.

I wonder if this is the same woman that was on a doumentary they had about Arnold's life. She looked and sounded kind of bitter when her segment came up saying something to the effect that "This is a man that did not understand intimacy" I think she wanted a pretty sedate "On Golden Pond" type relationship and Arnold loved glitz glamour and the excitement that fame brings. Maybe it was sour grapes that Maria is living the life she could have had.
