Title: 2022 Olympia - December 15-18 - Back in Las Vegas
Post by: 6 Reps on December 14, 2021, 11:23:47 PM
The 2022 Mr. Olympia will be December 15-18 in Las Vegas.  The contest will be at Planet Hollywood and the expo at the Venetian Convention Center.

https://mrolympia.com/travel-accomodations

Personally, I think having the contest the week before Christmas is a terrible idea.  People have too many family and holiday activities at that time of year.

Glad it is back in Vegas!  Truly miss it their, and since it is only a 4 hour drive, much happier.   And Planet Hollywood in right in the middle of the strip, so you can just uber, taxi or walk there from the other hotels around.  See you there, hopefully.

The O should be held the same weekend as the AVN Adult Porn Convention. 90% of all the competitors are closet and open sex workers anyway. Great way to boost income. Both events are freakshows of debauchery.

Best shows.

Etc., etc.

3 night stay at Planet Hollywood, 15 - 18 Dec,

Thur December 15      $119.00
Fri,   December 16      $169.00
Sat,  December 17      $179.00

Total $467.00

The above so-called TOTAL is  the price as advertised .... BUT does not include the tax, fees, nor the notorious and so called RESORT FEE which will run the real total fee up to $685.78.

And some hotels charge an extra fee if you want daily maid service.

Las Vegas hotel room rates are based on supply and demand and change constantly so it pays to do some research when booking a LV hotel room.

BHANK, I've have never seen the Planet Hollywood Fitness Center but there is one available according to YouTube with no mention of a sauna, so I gave the hotel a call only to be routed through recorded responses and after about 5 minutes I gave up.

At present my best guess is that there is no sauna nor steam room available at Planet Hollywood.

And YouTube has a 20 second video of the "PLANET HOLLYWOOD FITNESS CENTER" but no mention of a sauna.

Too much info here but a couple of you Oly attendees may be interested .....

MATT's right about the casino's House Advantage ..... but if you do decide to risk a few bucks in a LV casino .... Here's some advice from a low-limit expert.

1. Avoid gambling in any LV Strip casino. Following are the reasons why:
    a. The vast majority of the Strip casinos charge you to park your car.
    b. Minimum bets on the Strip table games start at $15 - $25. Off  Strip casinos
       start at $5.
    c. Get a Blackjack and a Strip  casino will pay you 6 t0 5  .... but it should pay
you 3 to 2 which means that the casino is keeping some of your winnings.
    d. Beware of the CONTINUOUS SHUFFELING shoe at the BJ tables.
    e. Avoid roulette tables that have 39 slots. But best to avoid roulette.
    f.  If you play BJ, adhere to Basic Strategy .... or don't play at all.
    g.  It's best to avoid casino gambling if any of the above confuses you.

But if you do decide to gamble .... you can find a $1 BJ table at OYO Casino which used to be HOOTER's  but it pays even money and deals from a continuous shoe. A good table for Blackjack newbee's.

My best advice for any GetBig gambling fool is to try your luck at Ellis Island which is off the Strip and within walking distance of Planet Hollywood.

Try your luck at one of the Ellis Island Buffelo or Kitty Gilitter slot machines which usually pay me off pretty damn well.

Ellis Island has one $5 BJ table and one $5 craps table most days but seldom on weekends or when some big event is happening in this town.

The Olympia is  a BIG Event.

And I've never had a bad meal at Ellis Island. Good food at cheap prices.

BBQ ribs .... The best in town from 5 to 10 PM.
Fish and Chips .... The best in town 24 hours.

Sit at the bar, order a meal, place $20 in the bar-top slot  machine  (Buffelo or video poker) and drink for free.

Just remember to tip the mice looking female bartenders.

Heading to Ellis right now with two TWENTIES as I never enter a casino with more than I would enjoy loseing.

The real question is why is the Olympia Amateur Masters Division 35 and up? Seems kind of young especially when they only have one cutoff should be more like 45.

Agree 100%  If you didn't say it first, I would have.  Give them time to rest between the O and the ASC.   These new guys are hungry, and want to compete like the guys in the 90's and early 2000   I really like the attitudes of the new guys.

Walker wanted to do the ASC, but his  coach was focused on building up Wilkin  I'm not sure if it was a  good move or not.  Nick's gut does not seem to be in check like it was under Matt though..

If I enter the master amateur classic physique division I would need to use it to make weight dry out they are literally doing the master amateur show on my 45th birthday could be fun but they are using 35 as the cutoff not 40 or 45 which would be better for me

Serious?  I'm not a fan, but I do get those 'Max Rep' vibes from him ('90s reference for the kids on here)

Max Rep was a bodybuilding comic strip created, written and illustrated by Lyman Dally that appeared in both Flex magazine and Muscular Development magazine.

It featured the adventures of "Max Rep" a futuristic and genetically engineered bodybuilder, his girlfriend "Quadra Blu" an Amazonian female bodybuilder with blue hair and "Razer-Cutt" his self obsessed rival.

(http://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Flh4.ggpht.com%2F_0ebxg9hJX2s%2FTNiuc74YiRI%2FAAAAAAAAE70%2Fg6Px9-3yatk%2Fs800%2FQuadra-Blu-request.jpg&f=1&nofb=1)

The strip was in Muscular Development for many years until they changed to a natural bodybuilding format at which point they dropped Max Rep as a feature.

Post by: stuntmovie on May 04, 2022, 06:47:20 PM
EPIC, you can find everything you asked for in any Strip hotel/casino, but it will be at a price that is hidden well prior to checking in.

One such 'hidden' fee is a $40/day addition to your hotel room fee if you want a hotel employee to make your bed and tidy up your room  while you fine dine in the $25+ breakfast buffet which has removed all non-related 'incidentals' such as  those well deserved mints  and sometimes even wet-naps while such amenities are readily available in abundance one short block away.

I don't recall 26 cent ribs, but the best ribs in town are now priced at $19.99 which were cooked to perfection prior to corona at $9.99.

No mints there though but plenty of wetnaps!

I don't know when you last visited Vegas but I do advise any previous Las Vegas visitors to expect major price increases for EVERYTHING  since your  last visit such as:

Hotel/casino parking fees .... $20+ per day and expect a long delay getting out of that parking facility simply due to drivers not understanding how to  read the computer screen and inserting numerous bills to raise the device that goes up so that you can go out.

On busy nights you can expect a 45 minute wait to get your car out and about .... and that's when the traffic gets even more time consuming.

Resort fees range anywhere from $25 - $40/day even if their ain't no resort. The locals sometime refer to them as "extortion fees".

And upon checking in, you will be told that $100 will be 'held' until you check out  but will be retained if your room is vacated in some non-described 'unfit' order.

And the latest scam .... For instance if you play the slots and cash out, you push the button and get a printed receipt of $10.50, but the cash dispenser does not deal in change so you only receive the $10 and the 50 cents part goes to the house.

This may seem insignificant to you and me, but the casinos now have a new source of income at your insignificant expense ..... making millions according to some within the industry.

PS... In most cases you can retrieve that fifty-cents by a long wait in the cashier cage line.

AND .....

Roulette wheels with 39 slots.
$25 table minimums.
6 to 5 Blacklack pays.
Hotel room rates now 3X higher.
$40 nite club admissions and $20 cocktails or buy the $900+ bottle and pour your own.
$20+ for a poolside lounge.
$100+ for a table in the sports-book lounge.., etc, etc.
Hundreds to see the Raiders in our new stadium.
Hundreds more to see the latest rapper.

But ... Even despite  the  rising cost of  everything pertaining to a  Vegas visit, this town is now making more money than anytime within its history and the cost to visit this desert town will keep on increasing until the tourist crowd goes elsewhere.

And no-one expects that to happen. We just keep on building new stuff to draw ya in. Take a look at the MSG Sphere which is presently anyone's guess as to what will be happening inside to fill it to capacity.

BTW.... It appears that the majority of Californians and Hawaiians (only a slight exaggeration) are buying up every Las Vegas residence on the real estate market .... even before the foundations are laid.

 EPIC, Good question.

By the end of 2021  the Las Vegas population was  2,772,000.

And new homes are being built on every stretch of vacant desert land as we speak. It appears to be similar to the old Homestead Act.

Those old prospectors who built shit-shacks on isolated, shit hole, desert land years ago now find themselves surrounded within the very center of newly developed and upscale neighborhoods.

Back to BOOM-TOWN days!

Thanks for asking!

Hey, Even those who hate Vegas but may be coming anyway for the Olympia competitions may be interested in our latest attraction other than triple-zero roulette.

This new attraction is somewhat appropriately called FLY-OVER which was originally developed by the Mickey Mouse, Disneyland engineers in which you sat in a mobile, swing-like, ski-like mobile chair .... and got elevated up and into and through some artificial clouds  and way above and over various and interesting scenes throughout California.

Buy now that same (but improved) version/attraction is available for a fee here in Las Vegas less than 100 yards down the Strip in a southern direction from  the Olympia host  hotel (Planet Hollywood).

And it offers you a choice of one or both of the following:

Fly Over Iceland and/or Fly Over the Wild West.

I saw both and I was impressed, but if you choose to see only one and not the other, I'd suggest that you buy a ticket for the Iceland presentation simply because the pilot who flew the aircraft appeared to be on a suicide mission in his effort to get some spectacular footage .... and that brought back to me some long lost memories of the crazy times I've spent just a short distance above this planet  and lived to remember it.

If you have an hour or so to spare while your two feets  are on the Las Vegas Strip, I recommend that you take them to this Fly Over attraction and get them up there ....though they really ain't ..... but actually feel otherwise.

If confused ..... check it out on YouTube for a more better explanation.

Try it! You might like it!

You will get mugged of your tickets and money on Fremont St. and will have to walk because the monorail is broken down.

EPIC / HUMBLE,

Some LV Mono-Rail info:

First of all the mono-rail starts at the MGM Grand on Tropicana and runs on down to the Sahara Hotel/casino on Sahara. That means from one end of the Strip to the other end with numerous stops in between.

But those kind, old monorail folks fail to tell ya that there is a considerable walk involved just to get to one of the mono-rail stops, so in many cases it's much shorter and faster to simply use your feets and enjoy a walk to wherever ya want to go along the Strip and see all the sorta-wierd people along the way.

Be informed that the mono-rail does not go down to Fremont Street and you'll have to bus-it or uber-it or walk-it if you want to visit-it

My suggestion about getting down to Fremont Street from the Strip is to purchase a ticket and hop on the double decker MTL bus and take the 20 minute ride from a top-side street seat and enjoy the view along the way.

You can buy a bus ticket from an automatic ticket machine at most bus stops starting around $6 or simply have the correct amount of dollars to place in the bill collecting machine. But the kind and considerate bus driver has no control over cash or card. He just sits there to drive the bus along the predetermined route.

PS... The ride at night along the Strip on this double decker bus  called THE DUECE is the best way to see the Strip when it's all lite up after sundown.

In regards to getting mugged or getting your bus pass swiped I can only suggest a couple of LV tough places, but even here .... it's a rare ocurrance.
 .
HOG and HEFFERs .... Biker's paradise Downtown and I love this place!
Stage Door. On Flamingo and close to Planet Hollywood but it has calmed down a lot over the years!  $3 beers like the good old days. And $5 shots! The best place in town to start your evening outing on the Strip if you're on a budget.

OK. Heading off to rob/mug a casino!

I was joking. I used to live in Vegas and the monorail was usually broken down.

Good joke, Humble, but it's fixed now  but a lot of time the escalator that you have to ride to get up to the monorail is broke and fails to function, so nothing much ahas changed since you left here except for the fact that you can now get stoned by merely walking up or down the Strip from all the exhailed smoke that you pass through.

Where did you hang out when you lived here?

Any suggestions for the 1 or 2 GetBig Oly fans who may show up this December?

I lived in a shitty area close to the Hilton (now Westgate). Lived on the same street where UNLV plays basketball.

OK, HUMBLe, I know that area well.

While I'm at it allow me to let the couple of GetBiggers who plan to be here in Vegas for this December's Olympia know that most of the Strip casinos now charge ya $3+
for bottled water unless you're playing at a $25 minimum table..... which usually means that that bottle of water will cost you a hell of a lot more.

And if you plan to do some swimming/boating on/at Lake Meade, you'd better hurry up because it's drying up.

The last time I measured, it was 100 feet lower than it was when I checked it out 20+ years  earlier.

And as the water recedes, a few gone missing in the good old days are found once again neatly hidden in 35 gallon 'caskets'.

I saw the story about those caskets. The mafia was in charge of Vegas for decades.

I'd go to the Olympia but I have a hard time distinguishing the bodybuilders from each other.  These days it's pretty much a bald manlet convention.

PRAY, Thanks and ..... I feel likewise simply due to the fact that I no longer know the contenders so I have little interest  regarding any wins or losses at the Olympia.

Part of my attitude is due to the fact that there are simply too many pro bodybuilders in the game now-a-days and I'm too darn dumb to 'keep up' when it comes to whom's gonna win .... or who ain't.

But I gotta admit that I enjoy the Oly Expo simply because I can reminise with the old time AAU/IFBB gang who show up about the good old days when pro membership was limited and exclusive ..... and when we used to hunt for magic mushrooms and other shit which never got printed in Weider's magazine.... nor Kennedy's, nor Hoffman's, nor Everson's, nor Perry's & Mables.

I Should add Mike Lambert's to the above.

I'm saving those stories if some Hollywood character asks me to make a movie.

PS I cannot spell reminise which means something like "recalling and talking  and laughing about memories that seem to be impossible but actually  happened during the Golden Age!

Yep.  Times have changed.

For me the late 1990s and early 2000s Olympia expo was the best.  I was able to meet guys like Ronnie Coleman when they were at their best.  Maybe one of these days I'll show up an check out the Olympia for old times sake.

Yea, PRAY, If I do go, I'll only go to the EXPO and meet up with my Golden Age buds.

A few years back someone gave us 2nd row seats but I gave them to a young kid in exchange for his last row, upstairs seats, and I stayed for about 20 minutes and then took off.

I think that was the year when Jay won his last Oly title.

Here's another bit of useless info for most GetBig Olympia fans:

Here's another piece of non-essential information that could possibly be of interest to a couple of you GetBiggers who plan to be in town for the Olympia this December.

"BRING YOUR OWN KNIFE AND FORK!" if you plan to fine-dine in your hotel room suite.

A good number of the Strip hotels will no longer provide in room dining service.

Instead the hotel will expect you to order you in-room meals from a number of different restaurants in town.

I tell ya this because we ordered  steak dinners with all the sides  and soon discovered that we had to cut our steaks with a cheap, plastic knife.

That didn't work too well, so if you fine dine in your hotel room, bring your own fine dining utensils.

Best bet ..... Have a meal or two at Ellis Island around the corner and down the street. Their utensils work just like the ones at home!

The place is falling apart. The services are shitty now and only high rollers can afford to gamble there. With all the states legalizing gambling Vegas is trying to recoup by just charging more and offering less.

Post by: stuntmovie on June 15, 2022, 07:39:29 PM
HUMBLE, I agree with ya in all respects, but Las Vegas is definitely not falling apart when it comes to making money!

And I mean a HELL OF A LOT OF MONEY!

These past few months LV has made more money (profits) than any  other time throughout the history of this thriving desert town and ......  I hope that that doesn't continue much longer simply because the price of everything is going up ..... even for us desert rats.

For instance once upon a time the standard price of an average Strip hotel room was less than $50 per nite,  but now you'll be paying $100+ in one of the cheaper establishments and $200+ in a better joint.

And lunch buffets are now close to $25 and up.

But the tourists are lined up to get a room and buffet-it-up regardless of the price, so
And it's even getting hard to find a seat at a $25 table if that's your poison which used to cost ten .... or even five.

So if you want to spend some time in Vegas and leave here with a bit of change or a possible profit in your pocket, you gotta know where to chow down, where to place a bet, where to  hit the tables, and how to take a bit of an advantage over these dens of inequities.

So compared to the days of Elvis and Sinatra and even Newton, this town is falling to shit ...... but it's making more money than any other time throughout its history.

Charging more and offering less is doing damn well these days .... but not just in Vegas!

Lots of businesses send their employees there for conferences plus a lot of major sporting events now. I prefer Reno now.

Yea, HUMBLE, those 'gatherings' are a big money maker here in Vegas and it's best for any visitor who is not attending one of those 'convention' to get  or stay out of town because the hotel room rates are doubled, tripled, or guad-drupled while those conventioneers are here in town.

And the 4 day Olympia event will also see higher prices for all concerned.

The Las Vegas Convention Center which will not be used by the Oly event this year was just enlarged and there seems to be enough space in there to acomodate the entire state of California when those people decide to move here enmass which appears to be happening already.

BTW .... Two new things are underway here in town that some GetBiggers may find to be  of interest.

Check the following out on the net ...

The MSG Sphere .... I still have no idea what event will be held inside here but the exterior itself should turn out to be a major LV attraction.

35 miles worth of Underground tunnels.

And one more elaborate sports stadium.

At one time there was talk about an artificial ski resort on the Strip similar to the one someplace in the Orient but that was scrapped in favor of some Titanic  idea.

Sorry ... A bit off track, but I would hate to see any GetBigger arrive in this desert town without some idea of what it's all about and the simple fact that 'we' do intend to get all your money one way or another.

Probably cheaper to stay in a hotel off the strip. The next time I go to Nevada it will probably be Reno.

HUMBLE, The best LV hotel deal that I am aware of is the two-night mid-week deal which Ellis Island occasionally offers

Total Price includes room for 2 nights , tax, resort fee, etc.=  $125.00 US funds.

You also receive:

50 free play on the slots. I use this $50 on a couple of slot machines that seem to ALWAYS pay well on my behalf .... One of the 5 the original Buffalo machines and one of the 2 Kitty Glitter machines.

$25 meal coupon. Covers one of the best BBQ Baby Back Rib joints in Nv/Cal with a huge beer to get it down.

Check the Ellis Island, Nv. website  but I have no idea in advance when it's available.

If you enjoy Blackjack or Craps, this is the only casino near the Strip that gives you a decent chance to leave a winner..... loose machines, 3 to 2 BJ pays, and $5 minimum bets.

Better than any other casino in town except for the Southpoint.

HUMBLE, Your He/She question is a good one and most likely could only become a problem if the HE or the SHE was refused entry as a contender in an event and decided to get a lawyer.

Now-a-days it seems that this should be a question which any sanctioning body and/or event promoter should be considering.

In fact the above is bound to turn into a lawsuit within one if the major sports federations ..... if it hasn't happened already.

And I are dumb when it come to any knowledge regarding this subject, so maybe one if the various sports fans on this board may be able to offer an intelligent answer about the current state of affairs.

Has the U.S. Supreme court even  been involved yet?

And if anyone were to ask for my advice if and when this He/She situation  arose .... I'd say, "Don't do a damn thing ..... Until a court (most likely  Supreme Court) makes a decision before you do.

Until then it could be  the old "Damed if you do! Damed if you don't!" situation .

Best bet would be to simply organize and sanction a separate event such as the  Mr./ Ms. Transgender Olympia!

Now that's an angle I hadn't considered!  I suppose if that person could convince the IFBB and judges that they had essentially chemically castrated themselves to the point where their testes were totally atrophied, they might be in with a shout...  And if they were good looking, with smooth skin and purdy hair, they'd be a double threat...🤔

Everybody (men and women) in the IFBB are chemically enhanced so I don't see how you could use that as a criterion.

The NPC Bodybuilding Nationals will be held here in Vegas in Bally's Hotel/Casino on 29 & 30 July.

I have yet to see any local ads but I am sure it will draw a big crowd.

Prejudging ticket prices: $75 - $100.

I don't know the finals prices and I don't believe that there will be any type of expo unless there will be small exhibitor displays set up within the venue.

Now that you have read the above ...  ignor the above and I will see if anyone has already posted this topic someplace else on this board.

If not, I will set it up.
