Back from 1949, at age 21, fantastic development, but no way is he 225 there, 215 maybe, all the stats are bit exegerated 31 inch waist and 6 foot 2.
He was 6 foot 3/4 more likely and waist 33 probably. Steve Reeves was real lucky beating him!

Whats funny is: if you didn't know the backstory to 1980. And you didn't know who Arnold or Mentzer was and you didn't know what Arnold looked like from 70 -75......you would look at these photos and pic Arnold as the very,  very obvious winner. He's crushing Mentzer so badly in this relaxed shot its not even close..

 You are absolutely right Beakdoctor!. I have always said that the real reason people were thinking arnold did not deserve to win was because he did NOT look the Arnold we were used to and wanted to see. BUT he was still better than everyone else. WAY better than crybaby Mentzer and better than others too but not as much. Simply put Arnold was not looking like Arnold. That is why there is an issue. Had he never looked like he used to then there would be no problems. Mentzer and Dickerson should have NEVER been in the show much less in the top 6! I remember seeing the magazine when it came out. I was 16 and the guys in the gym said Arnold won. I was excited to see Arnold back since I was too young when he retired to know little about bodybuilding. I was disappointed when I seen his condition. I thought wtf! BUT that was because I compared that Arnold to THE ARNOLD!!  But then I looked at the other guys and decided some were close but Mentzer and Dickerson were nothing!
