Top FBI official dodges when Cruz asks if agents participated in Jan. 6 riot

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, grilled a senior FBI official on whether or not FBI agents or confidential informants played a role in the Capitol protest on Jan. 6, 2001, but she would not confirm nor deny anything.

At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing titled, "The Domestic Terrorism Threat One Year After January 6," Cruz asked Jill Sanborn, executive assistant director for the FBI's national security branch, about suspicions held by some that government officials encouraged lawless behavior during the protest.

"How many FBI agents or confidential informants actively participated in the events of Jan. 6?" Cruz asked.

Sanborn said in response that she could not discuss "the specifics of sources and methods" of the FBI.

Cruz then broadened his question by asking if any FBI agents or confidential informants actively participated in the riot.

"Sir, I can’t answer that," she said.

Cruz then asked if any agents or confidential informants committed crimes of violence on Jan. 6. When he received the same answer, he asked if any agents or confidential informants "actively encouraged" crimes of violence on Jan. 6.

"Sir, I can’t answer that."

Cruz then brought up Ray Epps, who was seen on video the day before the riot, telling a crowd, "Tomorrow, we need to get into the Capitol! Into the Capitol!" The crowd responded by shouting, "Fed! Fed! Fed!" at him.

Epps, later claimed that he was not encouraging wrongdoing.

"The only thing that meant is we would go in the doors like everyone else. It was totally, totally wrong the way they went in," he told the Arizona Republic.

"Miss Sanborn, was Ray Epps a fed?" Cruz asked.

"Sir, I cannot answer that question," Sanborn replied.

Cruz asked more questions about Epps' actions, and Sanborn said she could not answer.

But even so, they’re not exactly going after him with malice like they do with Trump and they’re constantly making excuses for his incompetence. How about you make a list of Biden's 'ton' of impeachment offenses. Your girlfriend Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote a resolution H.RES.57 back in January 2021 trying to get Biden impeached for claimed offenses predating his Presidency by as much as 10 years. How's that moving along through the House?  Not too well apparently, looks like it is dead. The last action was in March when it was referred to the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties. 

On the other hand Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's resolution to strip Greene of all three of her committee assignments passed back in February. The vote was 230-199, with 11 Republicans joining with all Democrats to back the resolution.

Greene's was not giving up though she tried again back in August when she introduced three impeachment resolutions against Biden that had little chance of advancing. Last November, Matt Gaetz who previously consorted with Greene, criticized her for pursuing impeachment. He cautioned against congressional Republicans developing "impeachment fever" should they gain control of Congress in 2022.

Looks like besides you and Greene there's no one who is interested in impeaching Biden. Birds of a feather flock together. LOL!

The aide provided details about the man, Ray Epps, and his cooperation with the panel, after his name came up at a Senate hearing on Tuesday. Two GOP senators referred to Epps while questioning a top FBI official about whether FBI agents infiltrated or incited the pro-Trump mob.

Sen. Cruz’s questioning to elicit that information was followed by the January 6 Kangaroo court...er, committee’s bizarre statement about Ray Epps.

On Tuesday, Sen. Ted Cruz reminded people why they’ve appreciated his contributions to the conservative cause. Jill Sanborn, the executive assistant director for the FBI’s national security branch, appeared before the Senate to answer questions about the FBI’s role in events on January 6. Cruz grilled her with a series of questions to determine whether the FBI played a part in the events of the day, including questions about Ray Epps, a very visible presence on the day. Sanborn, instead of giving a full-throated denial, refused to answer any questions, leaving the strong impression that the FBI was behind the whole thing.

The questions Ted Cruz asked are of pivotal importance. Internet sleuths have examined whatever publicly available footage they could obtain of events in and around the Capitol on January 6. Even without the 14,000 hours that the Capitol Police, under Nancy Pelosi’s control, refuse to produce, the known footage has raised some very serious questions. The three most disturbing questions involve Ray Epps, the missing “restricted area” signs and fences, and the Scaffold Commander.

(1) Ray Epps was seen on January 5 aggressively encouraging people to storm the Capitol and on January 6 doing so again, appearing to give the marching orders to a small cadre of people.
