Tesla to reveal 'Optimus' robot on Sept 30
« on: September 20, 2022, 04:22:33 PM »
Quote
Musk's Texas company now is floating ambitious plans to deploy thousands of humanoid robots, known as Tesla Bot or Optimus, within its factories, expanding eventually to millions around the world, according to job postings. Buzz is building within the company as Tesla is having more internal meetings on robots, a person familiar with the matter said.

Longer term, Musk said at a TED Talk robots could be used in homes, making dinner, mowing the lawn and caring for the elderly people, and even becoming a "buddy" or a "catgirl" sex partner.

The robot business eventually may be worth more than Tesla's car revenue, according to Musk, who is now touting a vision for the company that goes well beyond making self-driving electric vehicles.

At its "AI Day" on Sept. 30, Tesla will unveil a prototype from its project Optimus, an allusion to the powerful and benevolent leader of the Autobots in the Transformers series
. Production could start next year, Musk said.

What will the Tesla robot look like?  Will there even be one?  As a reminder, this was their "prototype" last year (starts at 0:45)

Elon Musk ready to unveil Optimus Tesla Bot, aims to deploy millions of them

Tesla, the company created and managed by Elon Musk, has ambitious plans of a truly grand scale – to deploy thousands and even millions of humanoid robots in its factories and throughout the entire world.

'According to insider sources, robots and all related technologies have become one of the key directions within Tesla

Musk also has mentioned the possibility of Tesla’s robot business becoming the key revenue source for the company

The global robotization currently pursued by Elon Musk faces a certain share of skepticism.'

Tesla vehicles aren’t really self driving so I don’t think these are going to be anything special. Trouble is if they aren’t then his stock is going to drop more.

What’s the price on one of these?

I only ask because this may be an excessive purchase if it’s going to perform tasks like mowing the lawn.

If it doesn’t randomly ignite into flames first.

Funny you say that. A colleague at work just bought a Rivian SUV- a ridiculously priced electric vehicle. I asked him what he thought and he says he likes it but in just one month shit is already loosening up and falling off (trim, internal parts, etc). But what alarmed me was he showed me a burn mark on one of the electronic consoles in the back seats. I asked him what it was and he said no idea- he just started smelling burning one day.

I'll stick with gasoline, haha.

Tesla has poor quality control and i wouldnt trust some tech startup to produce a quality EV, no matter what their market valuation

I think the electric f150 and the chevy electric pickup will be very popular

There are a handful of these where i live. One lady i've spoken to a few times says hers only gets about 120-150 miles before a charge. So, she basically charges it every day or two. Based on the power usage to charge the battery, it's ~$18-20 to drive 120-150 miles.

If they are made like Teslas, they are complete shit.

If it's like their self driving cars it will walk off a cliff or into an eighteen wheeler.

Exactly this. It'll be a slick paint job and LED light show without substance or practical application.

And when it obviously sucks, they'll say "It's just the first step on the way to The Future!" Which will technically be true since the future is one of useless gimmicks and empty promises, dressed up flashy, which make rich people richer and do nothing for anyone else.
