Title: Contest Dieting
Post by: Luv2Hurt on September 10, 2007, 08:24:00 PM
Thought I would throw out there how I diet for a comp.  Now this is constantly evolving and being tweaked so I will just touch on the basics about what I do. Since I'm in the middle of one I thought this would be a good time.

Timing is very important for your comp diet.  First you must asses how much time you will need.  If you are already pretty lean and know how your body responds you may not need as much time.  On the other side of the coin if you are fat you may need more time.  12 weeks is the standard time frame many people use if they are in average offseason shape maybe 12-14% BF and that is about right IMO.

For my prep I will use a low carb diet, some people like to cycle carbs or use 0 carbs even, me I like to keep them at a fairly steady low level.  For me that is about 80-100 grams of carbs per day, some days I may go as low as 60 grams.  I like to keep the carbs the same for the whole diet and I will usually use just 2, sweet potatoes and oatmeal.  I will also have about 5 pieces of asparagus with dinner most nights, asparagus is a natural diuretic and I like it.  I just throw it in a pan and saute it in a little olive oil and may throw a little Mrs Dash in there.  Those are my carbs.

Protein is from chicken, red meat and salmon.  I grill or broil all the meats and will season with a lower sodium seasoning on one side of the meat and good old Mrs Dash on the other.  For this prep I'm going to be running the sodium a little closer to the date than I have in the past, to help keep me fuller.  Will admit it is a little scary to do so cause the salt has you holding water and it is a little tricky to gauge your progress.  I will start pulling the salt out about 2 weeks before the comp. and have it all out 3 days before.  The red meats I eat are fillet, NY strip, flank steak and some lean hamburger. I will also consume 2-3 very low sugar whey protein shakes mixed with water of course every day.

Fats:  I eat a lot of avocados while I diet along with natural peanut butter, raw almonds and some olive oil.  I also take a essential fatty acids (EFA's) everyday (ED)  The fats make up a big part of this diet and they keep my energy levels jacked up and allow me to train with good intensity.

As far a supplements I will take the EFA's mentioned, a multivitamin extra E and C

I will drink about 2-3 gallons of fluids, water, Crystal Lite and a bunch of coffee in the morning with Equal everyday.  I use Equal all the way up to the show and have never had any issues with it, such as water retention, I put in my oatmeal also.  I find when the carbs and sodium are so low that it is very hard to stay hydrated, so I will pound the fluids at the end, its hard to drink enough fluids at that time.

For work I will make my food in advance and pack it up in a cooler for the day.  Here is a typical days eating in prep mode.

6:30 am:  Coffee, 3/4 cup oats with water, 2-3 table spoons PB, whey shake.  Will take my fat burner here I like clenbuterol for this, which I split into 2 doses for the day.

9:30 am:  12oz chicken (this meal could also be red meat or salmon), 1/4 small sweet potato, 1/4 avocado

12 ish:  Same as above

3:30:  Pre work out 2-3 tables spoons PB (or maybe 1/2 cup almonds here), whey shake.  Fat burner here also.

6:30 ish:  Same as 9:30 meal with some asparagus.

10 pm  2-3 table spoons PB, whey shake.

Thats about it. This pic I have put up before but this is me 10 days out from last show, about 2 hours after eating 2 NY strip steaks, asparagus, a 1/4 sweet potato and almost a gallon of Crystal Lite  :)

AHHHHHHH  this makes me remember how much CONTEST DIETING SUCKS.    ;D

I usually go 18 weeks because I don't like to panic towards the end (I'd rather be ahead of schedule), and I also think that it takes a bit longer for women to get their BF levels that low than it does for men.

LUV BABY, how many weeks till your show as of now?  You must be looking pretty awesome by this point.   8)

Your diet sounds pretty similar to mine, back to the basics with the foods, and timing is indeed very important.  It doesn't look like a lot of food for someone your size, but I guess that's pretty much how it goes.

As I mentioned, I am happy to do extra cardio for extra food, so my contest diet was a bit heavier on the carbs, at least towards the beginning (remember we're talking 18 weeks out here).

My contest diet is based on counting carbs and protein, with very little fat included....a few nuts here and there or a little flax oil, and a EFA supplement.
No carb cycling, as the diet just got lower in carbs as I got leaner and closer to the show.  It was probably around 1400 or 1500 calories, but I am not sure.  Calories also got lower as I got closer to the show, but the increase in protein helped me from starving to death.

I started with six meals that totalled 210 g protein and 210 g carbs (120 complex, 40 simple, 50 fibrous).
After a few weeks, I moved to 7 meals that totalled 220-240 g protein and 130 carbs (60 complex, 20 simple, 50 fibrous).
In the final weeks, it was 8 meals that totalled around 220-240 g protein and 80 g carbs (30 complex, 50 fibrous).

I did two rounds of carb depleting/loading before the week of the show, to see how it worked for me and what carbs worked best.  For carb depleting, I went three days - Day 1 50 grams carbs, Day 2 25 grams carbs, and Day 3 0 grams carbs.  It was during this time that I discovered that I could NEVER survive on a zero carb diet.  Even just that one serving of complex carbs in the morning made a HUGE difference in how I felt during the entire day.

I didn't really mess with sodium at all.  I kept it relatively low the whole way through and used similar spices like Mrs. Dash and lemons.

This year, I FINALLY found the combo of OTC fat burners that worked for me.  Gaspari's Third Degree Burn and Thyrotabs.  Loved the combo and used it for the last six weeks....Of course they have discontinued Third Degree Burn, but I bought the last two bottles from my friend's supplement store.   ;D

Hey Rip baby thanks for sharing your diet, looks good.  :)

Well I'm like 6 and a half weeks out from show.  I'm getting there I'm pretty tight for the most part typical male fat holding area, mid section still blurry and a little fat to go yet.  The additional salt than that I have used in the past has me holding a little more water, But my legs and arms are separated and vascular so I think I'm on track.

With myself I need to be careful at the end and make sure I do not flatten out and burn too much muscle.  Once I get the BF down to a certain level it seems my body keeps freight training towards weight loss and it is hard to slow it down.  I will need to adjust my cardio and calories accordingly at this time.  Thats why its a good idea to have someone you can trust and knows what they are looking at to judge your condition for you that last 6 weeks or so.  They need to be brutally honest and tell you what you NEED to hear.  Do not listen to a bunch of different people, ultimatly its your call but someone can help you open your eyes at times.

I never figured out the calories of my diet and will try to.

I always have figured that the last week you are either ready or not and do not make any changes to my diet the last few days.  I don't carb load and I may just bring the water back a little bit.  I think I will get some pics up soon, when I feel like I'm ready.

Luv Baby, are you working with someone on your contest prep?

I think I have asked you this before, but are you doing the same show as The Blockhead?

You MUST get some pics with Blockhead.  I will call him and tell him to look for you.   8)
What class do you plan on competing in?

Are you having any bad cravings yet?  I tend to get real bad cravings when I am contest prepping, for food that I don't even eat when I am not dieting.  I remember being close to a competition and being in a diner and getting SOOOO PISSED that I couldn't eat this slice of day-old peach pie that was sitting on the counter.  It didn't even look that good in retrospect....and I don't even like peach pie!!!

DOUGHNUTS is a big one.  I don't eat doughnuts all that often, but man do I crave them when I am dieting.  That is usually one of the first things I eat after a competition.  In fact, I don't think that I have even had any doughnuts since the morning after Junior Nationals when I ate about 8 hot, fresh Krispy Kremes.   ;D

Yep me and the Block will get some pics I am sure of that  :)  I have chatted with him some on this already.  I will be doing the mens open light heavies and masters 40-49.  I think Block will be a heavy weight.

To be honest, since i follow a diet very similar to a Dave P diet, once i get into ketosis I really don't crave too much.  At that point I'm using fats for energy instead of carbs and find myself not overly hungry or craving anything.  Will admit I saw a dude eating a huge double bacon cheese burger with fries about 2 weeks out and I really wanted one!! LOL  I use a few more carbs than Dave does but still feel they are low enough with the training and cardio and they are consumed in such small quantities that getting into ketosis is no problem.  Peanut butter is the miracle food LOL

Altough about a half dozen D&D double chocolate doughnuts and a quart of cold milk does sound pretty damn good.  I think I'm gonna have that after the show along with some good old Chicago pizza, hope you got to have some of that when you were here?  For the Jr's  ;D

Hey Rip you mentioned the OTC fat burners?  Thats cool you have found one that works for you, all the ones I tried had me feeling really bad like too much caffine, man i was sitting in my ofice at work and i was like seeing 3 papers in front of me when there was only one LOL  Which other ones have you heard good things about/

I did have some Chicago-style pizza, with Blockhead actually.  I'll ask him the name of the place we went and letcha know...it's his favorite place.

In terms of fat burners, I HATE the jittery feeling you get from fat burners, esp ones with ephedra.  I cannot handle ephedra at all.  I tried it for two days during my prep once, and I was puking half way through day 2.

I tried several different ones before I discovered the Gaspari Third Degree and Thyrotabs combo.  Third Degree has DHEA in it (old school!), and Thyrotabs are sort of like over the counter T3, I think.  This combo worked REALLY well for me and did not give me any jitters at all.  I would not take the thyrotabs if you are taking T3 though.

I thought that Jet Fuel was a waste of $, and it gave me the jitters a bit.  I also tried "Scorch" and didn't feel like it was doing much of anything.  I went through about three or four different ones and bailed out on all of them.

TBH, I haven't ever found any OTC fat burners that I have ever liked until this Gasprai combo.  Now they have discontinued Third Degree Burn and are replacing it with Gaspari Cytolean.  I've heard good things about it, but I have heard that it makes you feel like you are high, so my guess is that it may make you a bit jittery too.  Of course, with a description like that, I am gonna HAVE to try it.   ;D

Yeah give me some of that LOL  I feel fine on clenbuterol and it does not get me too jittery if I ramp up slowly. I think its the best fat burner out there for me, cause it works round the clock and actually like the way I feel on it.  I don't mess with T-3

Nice post!!! I'm 8 weeks out but I may do a comp that's in 6 weeks depending on how I look. I'm doing 210 protein, 153 carbs and around 50 g's of fat per day. My diet will change on friday I'll let you know what it changes to when I get it. Last year I zig zagged and got great results, I'm sure I'll do it again this year, went up to 4 days in a row with 0 carbs, sucked but it got me lean. I'm 6.5%bf as of today, just can't seem to get my butt down!!!!!

I dream of oreo's, I crave bologna sanwhiches on white bread with miracle whip, pancakes, shakes and pizza. So far it's not that bad, just so darn hungry all the time!!!

I use the natural stuff, chunky is the kind I like and I eat it right out of the jar :)  I think its gross the way it sits on the shelves, so I take it home stir it up good and put it in the refrigerator for a day.  This firms it up pretty much and has a consistency almost like the hydrogenated ones like Jiff and Skippy.  They add sugar to Jiffy and Skippy so its a no-no, and the hydrogenation is bad news too.

I like the Smucker's natural, but they add a little salt.  There is one I get called "just peanuts" and they add no salt, I buy it at Jewel which is a grocery chain in this area.

Hey az why can you not have PB?  IMO its a very good food for getting ripped on, just gotta use it in moderation, there are some carbs in it and it provides major calories.  I see you follow a low fat diet, me I kind of do the opposite.  Seems I learn new things each time I diet down, that is a cool thing and the only way is to do it  :)  Good luck in your show!!  Im 6 weeks out myself.  Keep us up dated on your progress.

Peanut butter is a major weakness of mine when I am dieting.  I always use the organic, all natural, peanuts only kind, but still...I get carried away.
Carla knew better than to put it into my diet, so I would have a spoonful or two every now and again (like several times a week lol) as a "cheat."

Luv, if you don't use T3, you may like the Gaspari thyrotabs.  I used them just for the final 6 weeks of prep, and I thought they worked really well.  They probably combo well with the ctyolean, if you can get your hands on that.

You're coming down the home stretch now!

I know big time!  With a very hard last week I feel I am falling behind.  I think Im OK but my body is fighting me right now.  It is saying from what I can tell that it does not want to go back to those BF levels.  My weight has fallen some Im about 200lbs right now, thinking 188-190 I should be about ready, but we will see.  Im hesitant to try t-3 right now considering all the other stuff Im using and I have no experiance with it.  Maybe I will try the Gaspari products as I usually hear good things about them. thanks  :)

I have got to get my shit together!!  This next 6 weeks I have to get in hermit mode and do this for real.

Thats one reason I like to wear a training belt, its very good at letting you know where your waist is.  Notch  6 comfortably, where Im at now means Im in pretty decent shape.  Notch 7 comfy means Im ready for a show.  When notch 5 is tight my ass is fat LOL.

Now I dream about competition disasters (hair not done, music missing, no pro tan etc...) lucky for me I have a sports minded healthy kid, she snacks on kashi bars and stuff like that, she is thinking about doing teen fitness!!! she does gymnastics and cheerleading (same time) she's really cool, helps me out a lot!

That's Awesome!  LOL I remember those dreams too hahaha.  That just means you are thinking about all the right things.

I have to admit, hearing about you and Luv contest prepping is giving me the itch to get back into it.  I miss the discipline and the routine...but I am sure that once I DO get back into it, I'll be bitching about it in no time!   :D

Rip, I know how you feel.  While I was dieting those last few weeks, I could not wait to be done.  And now that I'm done, I can't wait to start again, LOL.

As much as my body needs a break, I hate "in between" time.  I like to feel like I'm working towards something.  I'm looking forward to starting my off-season because then I have a clear cut goal when it comes to training and diet, which makes things much easier in my opinion.

Yeah, I am going to enjoy the offseason once I really lay out some goals and get into it.  BUT my problem is that unless I am on a prescribed contest diet, I am not on a diet of any sort.  And I am already feeling like I need to be back on a diet.  :-\

Luv baby, the pizza place that Blockhead took me to after Jr Nats is Phil's Pizza on 35th Street, his favorite.
Of course, I dug right into the pizza when it came to the table...
This picture has already been used against me around here, so WTF, I might as well post it again.   :P

See the piece that is missing from the pizza?  It burned all of the skin off the roof of my mouth.   Well worth it though!  ;D

LOL thats hilarious, I always do that with pizza, burn the roof of my mouth, ouch!

Man seeing that pizza is making me hungry!!  We wont be able to hit that place though as the show is in the far western suburbs of Chi-town, but still plenty of good pizza here to be had, a pizza place is one of the sponsers of the show, lol  A think they are having a party there after the show, they are known for their deep dish which I love, but my favorite is that thin crust like in your pic.  Olny 30 days, 9 hours, 43 minuites till then LOL.

Giving yourself more than enough time to diet down is a good idea, esp your first time through.  It's always better to arrive early than have to panic in the final weeks.  And definitely a good idea to budget for special occasions and cheats...
Do as I say, not as I do.   ;D

I was about 183-185 somewhere in there.  I know the weight does not matter, its how I look.  Iam willing to give up a touch of conditioning for a little more size this time.  If i have to get to about 188 I will, thats probally about where I will end up, we will see though.

Either way, you will be bigger than last time, so you have accomplished something good.  It's much nicer to be ahead of schedule on the conditioning end of things, isn't it?  As long as you don't have to hit the panic button, things are much more enjoyable down the home stretch.   8)

Thanks Rip Baby yeah kind of blows me a way a week or so ago I was feeling really behind and things were just not comming together for me.  Then it just started getting better.  Really I looked back at pics of me from last prep at this same point and I looked about the same conditioning wise.  If it goes similar I should be very close in about 10-12 days.  Thing is last time I was ready at about 10 days out and lost some size leading up to the show.  This time Im ready for it and will adjust my cardio and calories as needed.

Thats the mind f*ck right there its hard to pull back on the cardio and eat more cause you think it will push you back.  My buddy calls it pulling the "brakes on your diet"  Gotta learn to use them and the only way is to do this and learn how you respond.

I did a couple things different this prep, I ran certian supps that I normaly would not deeper into the prep.  I ate more sodium this time and have just started to bring it out now, not 100% yet but mostly.  Im doing a little less cardio this prep also, just last week did I start doing it daily.  Before that it was 5 days a week I do 30 mins after I train.

I also walk my dog Cody about 40 mins a day, so that adds to it too.  But he's always stopping to pee on stuff or sniff the ground, so its hard to get the heart rate up  :)

I will just do the best I can do, have fun doing it, and let the chips fall where they may.  Working on my routine will be posing to the last 67 seconds of Zombie by the Cranberries.  I wanna work some cool poses into the routine, a couple Annie R poses will be in it, for sure this one, there is a very cool part i9n my music where I will work that pose in should be good  :)

AWWWwwwwwww  Cody is so cute.  You should add him to the Pet Board here.  It's a great board.   8)

Good plan on the routine.  I totally didn't do ANYTHING in advance about my routine...I started putting it together in a hurry about Weds before the show.  I worked it out with a friend of mine in like an hour, wrote it down and read over it a few times, and practiced it in the hotel.

Then, when it came time to do the routine, I was #1, so I went out there first, and they messed up my music.  I had to go back offstage while they fixed the music and then try it again.  By the time I actually got up there to do it, I forgot the whole thing after about the first three poses.  I ended up going through my mandatories and using my 60 second posing from prejudging.  I had some cool poses in there too, which I remembered AFTER it was all over...I didn't do any of them!   :D

Luv2Hurt, looking very good size and condition wise and your structure is very appealing!

Would you please think about posting daily pics from about 1 1/2 weeks out until the day of your show?  And then the next 2 days after you "pig out."  I think a lot of people will find the changes very interesting.

Thanks and have a great show!

My cat is Smokey, we adopted him from our friend's supplement store.  He's a big cat, not sure what supplements he was getting into after hours lol.  Smokey is actually the third most popular cat name after Tiger and Tigger.   :)

Lookin good luv baby!!  Nice butt, glutes look symmetrical to me.   ;)
Don't worry about the backside of your legs, it'll all come together.  They are lean, so the tightness and separation will come easily in the last two weeks.  It's always the last thing for everyone I think.  Your quads look INCREDIBLE, so I have no doubt that the glutes and hammies will be just as good when the time comes.
Back looks great!!!  I'm excited for you!   :-*

Thanks rip  :)  It has been a constant struggle for me to try and get my upper body to catch up with my legs.  I probally need to back off my leg training some and I have over the years.  I really just do 12 sets a week for my quads, thing is I will push hard on the big compound move I do and I grow like a MF from it.  Have been wondering as of late if maybe this lower volume training might be the answer for the rest of me  :-\

Thing is I dont think so......Its a genetic thing.  My legs were big even as a kid and during periods in my life when I was less than regular with my training.  I remember years ago, I fell out of training for a while and when I did return to the gym a good while later as a fat ass, this dude i knew who was a big dude and hard trainer said "man I havent seen you in a while, but knew it was you cause i saw those big ass legs popping out"

Thanks Laura  :)  Im pretty psyched, yep a little over 2 weeks.  Have to admit I have been having a hard time with this prep, lots of outside stuff has been pulling on me.  But as the date gets near and I keep getting leaner Im getting more and more fired up.  Plus there is a dude I know who thinks this show is his.....uuhhmmm we will see about that!!  Will get some good pics of me after first coat of pro-tan on thursday before the show. 8)

A couple more, weighed in at 194lbs today. Right about where I wanna be right now.  Will pull back some on the cardio, I dont want to start dropping weight too fast right now.  Cause once i get to a certian point the stuff just flys off, probally due to the ramped up metabolism.

Well your right, Im really there right now.  weighed 193 yesterday I just have to lose the water and will be ready to roll.  I drop weight like crazy right now so I have cut back on my cardio and actually ate a little more yesterday.  I will just watch the mirror now, as I will make my weight no problem but just dont want to drop too much weight now.

My bud who is also doing this show and has one some titles (you may have seen him in that altoids ad that said "nice altoids" it was an ad they had that showed a BB in a front lat spread I think)  but anyhow the dude was trying to get me to understand that I cant be afraid to eat right now.  And hes right people sometimes really cut cals at this point and flattenout.  So we will see.  Just wanna keep the stress away and be relaxed and do what I do.  Cause I know what it takes.    :)

Hope to get somemore pics up this week!

I have used both...both have their plus's and minus's and I have gone back and forth as to which one I like better, but in the end, I think it's Protan for me, esp for BB.  If you use Jan Tana, go with the "On Stage."

Pro tan is a total pain in the ass to apply and it takes alot of coats.  But it soaks into the skin WAY better than Jan Tana, which is good for BB, as you don't have to worry about sweating it off during the show, and sometimes stuff that sits on your skin can smooth you out a little.
Jan Tana is much easier to apply and takes fewer coats.  It also has a self-tanner in it, so you get nice and dark from that too, which makes it really even, and it wears off A LOT better than Pro tan.

I think the way to go is LOTS of coats of Pro Tan, starting maybe two days before the show and showering a couple of times before the final coats.  At Jr Nats, I did the Pro Tan spray application and it was awesome.  I put a couple of coats on before, and then I did five spray coats over the course of two days, with a shower after the first two.

I know alot of people use Dream Tan as a top coat...I would only use the red color (#2, I think), not the bronze.  And for BB, be careful and don't apply it real heavy...I have seen sooooo many people literally melt on stage from Dream Tan.   :-\

Pro Tan also makes a GREAT finishing product, I can't remember what it's called, but it's a goop like Dream Tan that you put on before you go on stage as a top coat, and it serves as your oil....so you don't need to put on any oil at all.

My other strong recommendation is to go VERY DARK.  If you are generally fair skinned, it's really hard to make yourself too dark on stage.  It's MUCH better to be on the dark side than the light side.  If you have any question about whether you are dark enough, put another coat on.

 :)

Thanks rip awsome stuff there!  :) You had spectacular!! color for the JR Nats so your recommondations are very appreciated.  I always have gone with pro-tan too.  I will try for about 4 coats, 2 on thursday, shower friday morning and 2 more friday.  Im thinking that should do me, last show I did just 3 coats and want to be a touch darker this time. And you are right the darker the better, hard to be too dark.

I have always used pam for the oil and it works really well, spray it on light and blot it in even.  To be honest I go really light on the oil, some people go overboard with it IMO and end up looking smoother.

"the jitters"  ;D  The fat burner I use seems to give me a little bit of jitters like a shake to some degree.  Especially at first but after you start to get used to it they are not bad.  See the thing is you want a fat burner that works round the clock, like what I use.  The ECA stacks do not.  The ones based on caffeine and herbs and that kind of stuff get my head spinning and I feel terrible when taking them.

haha and here I was telling Luv how much more I like Pro tan!   ;D

Actually, Beast sprayed me at Team U for some photo shoots, and the Jan Tana is good for sure.  It's a bit oranger, maybe, than Pro Tan.
Anything that you can get sprayed on is well worth it IMO, it's SO much easier.  Plus, you would have Jenny spraying you and that's a bonus in itself.   ;)

That somalyze sounds interesting as long as it doesn't make you feel like you do with the ECA stacks, I can't handle that.  I may give it a try, but Gaspari's Ctyolean is first on my list to try out.  Sources have confirmed that that one makes you feel high.   ;D

Hi Benz

I really dont know the ratio of nutrients or calories. I just eat approx what I outlined at the begining of this thread.  I eat till I feel like I have enough, not full.

My diet is low in carbs and high in protiens and fats that pretty much describes it.  The only thing I really watch close or measure is my oatmeal in the AM.  The rest of the day I just eat small peices usually 2-3 mouthfuls of carbs, thats it.  I keep it simple and dont count calories or weigh food.

I would not eat canned tuna often if thats what you mean about replacing chicken.  Tuna steaks yes.

Well many are way high in sodium.  I think you would be fine eating some of it.  But there is a reason it is cheap.  Fresh whole foods would be the best choice.  Tuna is also high in mercury, they say one can of albacore a day is the max an adult should eat. I will say if cost is an issue it is a decent alternative.

Dont get me wrong one of my favorite off season meals is a big ass tuna salad sub with cheese and hot peppers and the veggies of course  :)

No fats, lower carbs, high protien everyone I see on the high fat diet loses muscle mass like theres no tomorrow. On my diet they keep alot more muscle.

Why would you think a diet higher in fat is not high in protein??  Really what kind of protein do you eat that has no fat?  How do you get enough calories on this no fat diet?  A blanket statement about "everybody loses muscle mass like no tomorrow"  seems ridiculous, many people have used a higher fat diet with much success.

amazing. you would be ripped to shreds on GH. I have just started a higher protein and fat diet with low carbs. I am not counting anything either.. very similar to your diet. On this diet  though i am always concerned with sodium content as ai tend to retain tons of water naturally.. i am thinking of using dandellion root to take the water out daily along with electrolyte powder to make sure i dont have an imbalance.

Yeah i know what you mean about sodium, I always look harder and shin thinner when limiting the sodium.  Thing is though it really helps with muscle fullness and strength.  Most people can lose the sub-Q water in about 2-3 days when they limit sodium.  A diuretic may be a good idea to dry you out the last 2-3 days before a comp.  That way you can stay full close up to the show.  I need to learn more about them, cause have heard they can flatten you out if used wrong.

Noel how do you recommend diuretic use leading up to a show? And what are the diuretics you prefer?  Also I am interested in your take on carb depletion and loading.  Also how you manage your water intake the last few days?

I guess I'm asking about your whole last week strategy.  Cant blame you for not giving out all your info after all it looks like you have an impressive list of clients that I'm sure pay you for your help. Thanks!

I never carb load or deplete..makes everything too much of a guessing game and its impossible to hold it ..seen way too many people look amazing at prejudging and then shit at night and lose the overall. I have my people switch to distilled about 7 days out to clear your water for the diuretics to work properly..used to use aldactone and aldactazide but it doesnt seem to work as well as it used to so i've pretty much switched to just light diazide..takes a trained eye to judge where your at to get the water just right..if you take a strong diuretic it just tells me you have screwed up your diet and you expect a little water loss to preform miracles..it wont ..just leaves you stringy and small..for you i would suggest 1 1/2 gallons of distilled from Sunday till friday night at about 12 theres reasons for this...take 10mg of diazide at 11 pm and if you look perfect saturday moning take 5mg 3 hours before you go onstage your pretty dry now and the diuretic should make you 10% better than you do now. Thats all you should ever expect out of water depletion.

Thank you very much Noel!! have heard good things about diazide, it being potasium sparing.  It was nice of you to help me that much and be specific, thank you again  :)  I will use your advice in my next prep.

No problem...potasium sparing is the only diuretic type to use. If anyone here is getting ready for a show let me know i would love to prove myself on this board as the MD board only promotes Palumbo. He has a good track record but there are other trainers out there.

YOUR track record speaks for itself.  Thanks so much for contributing to this board.   :)

Yeah I think Dave has lots of good stuff, but I do not agree with everything he says. He is not the be all, end all.  It's great to hear from other top trainers such as yourself. And I look forward to more.
