Some good stuff with crossfit, people need to try harder shit like this and that's a plus.

However the bad is just so bad.....

Epic loading of 6 5kg plates to make it look heavy. Give me a fucking break

Even worse is the coaching. 90% of these "coaches" are level one crossfit certs with level one oly certs and hardly any experience. That sickens me worse than anything, the coaching going on. "Let the bar just rise above your head"

Ya, great advice you stupid fucking girl!

Oh I get the movement, we train in strongman as well. But you just don't do this with people who have never 1. Trained for it 2. You know what you're doing 3. You're not a 15 year old girl or a 65 year old man. Looks like their using a 2" thick bar, doesn't matter whether the bar is 85lbs or 15lbs, it's too big for small hands to grip. I have small hand and have a hell of a time doing farmers walks not because my grip is weak, it because my hands are small. All they need to do is drop that from the top of the movement and she's done.

Oh sure, I get that, I just want to show that it's a legitimate lift in the right hands, and not just some Crossfit non-sense.

Here's another bit of Crossfit silliness-

that's probably because crossfit people are generally untrained to start with. and then go straight to do advance strongman lifts that requires a good base physique and technique.

hilarious how they think they are the shit because they do gayfit lol

And ppl are paying $150-200 a month for this crap!

If they only understood that just because they sweat alot doesnt mean that its an effective workout.

If people just did a bit of research and learned how to construct a training routine, diet, and cardio plan, they wouldn`t have to buy into all this fad gimmicky bullshit.  :(

that's fucking retarded.  I don't have shit for certification anywhere, but I could teach all those fuckers to clean and press in a much more safe manner than what they were showing...with or without the hand switch. I can't believe people pay for this shit.  Just join a normal gym and ask someone there how to do deads and cleans, and youtube the rest. FFS...

From the crossfit site.....

Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.
Title: Re: Just another reason why I hate "crossfit"
Post by: jwb on December 02, 2011, 04:13:38 PM
Why not use simply say we adjust load and intensity instead of scale load and intensity? Is scale cooler and more hip?

No offence Ach, but why do you walk around severely overweight? Why do you think that you have it all figured out because you can do a "bodybuilding diet" once over couple years? If I remember correctly, didn't your last pictures show that you and your family are severely overweight?

Again no offense my large nose brother. you can't deny that you are overweight. Your arms look good bro. No doubt about it. But Getbig has seen many a picture where its obvious that you may have been a victim of some sort of spider bite. I don't believe I walk around lean or anything close to being lean.... (And I don't believe I've ever said that I do)....  But, don't you think its a bit of an exaggeration to say that I'm "overweight"?

Lets see... I've been lifting for 10 years, I've competed and done well in a number of bodybuilding shows, benched 350, squatted 465, deadlifted 500 lbs, curled 90 lbs dumbells, actually a certified personal trainer (although never formally used this certification - since Engineering brings in more money), have had repeat successful body transformations to get in shape....... But I can't have an opinion on "crossfit" - really??

Ok pal  :D

The only thing I call out with Vince is his supposed knowledge of hypertrophy. You've never seen me call him out for how he's built or what he looks like.

Ok pal  :D

And thank you for calling me cool... and calling it like it is!  Keepin it real!

How many thread have you started that didn't have anything to do with your being? lol

So who's the narcissist?

Oh and just to show that I keep it Real and not hiding from anything..

here is the HEAVIEST I've ever been (back in 2005), I weighed 262 in this picture....

(As I said, I weight 220 lbs right now and walk around that weight - thats my normal weight I guess you can say 220-230

And here is the leanest I've ever been at 157 looking like a somalian refugee....  (Btw My best showing was the pic in my avatar weighing 176)

I don’t think there is a more complete teaching tool on the subject of fitness and nutrition out on the market than what GetBig reveal. When you start setting goals for your future the first thing you do is select someone to help you get there that is well qualified in the field you’ve selected, health and fitness are no exception; you need the best in the business if you’re serious about achieving the best results. A GetBig program will enable you to reach every goal. You will feel good and look forward to many more years of added success. Following a program is perfect for anyone wanting the very best of health and fitness, taught by the very best in the business, regardless of your age. There is so much information out there about health and fitness and some of it can be very misleading. Nothing gives results like perseverance, combined with accurate knowledge like one gets from Getbig. I recommend it without hesitation to my friends and family, and continue to do so.

But what I love most is the very informative forum. I was hopelessly overweight and quite down on myself. I wasted so much money on fat loss pills and creams, I think I must have tried every diet in the universe. I did lose weight, a few pounds here and there I was a classic yo–yo dieter but I always gained it back and more. I feel so glad, I finally found a program on here, what it’s done for me is something I can’t put into words. So many forums are full of trolls/hecklers but there is a great atmosphere here, everybody is keen to help each other and there’s a lot of fun to be had also in the gossip, humour threads where people relax and talk a bit of nonsense. You really get to know the regulars and the moderators/regulars have a wide experience in different types of lifting so there is always someone who can help talking from experience. People also respect each other, there are no stupid mean remarks.

You have never answered the question about how it is that you only competed in a couple of shows, but Wes's mid-section(at mid 50's) is tight as fuck and has no signs as being bloated, but your's was only tight in one show you did. How/Why is your stomach so fucking big in contest shape if you claim to never touch any real amounts of Gh and absolutely no slin? Honestly bro. What gives. Look at Gary Strydoms mid-section. its barely any bigger than when he was in the 80's and even he admits to slight insline use. But your stomach in contest shape grew massively-yet you claim no insuline/hgh use. What gives?

Can you show us pics of your contest shape?

Answer the question about how it is your stomach is so way out of control in your last show compared to your first. Honestly bro. Many people have wondered how its possible while being close to natural.

It is harder as u get older to keep your waist small. I eat very clean and stay lean, but my waist has grown since after 43 years old. My dad use to warn me, wait until u are over 40  your waist will get bigger and your vision will decrease. It started to happen after 43. I use to always have a 29-30 waist, in the past 2 years it is now 32.  Getting old sucks, except for the increased wealth, which would be better at a younger age, before Kids.

It is what it is...Honestly bro it wouldn't matter if you weren't like the Kardashians and keep posting on Getbig pictures about yourself. I do wonder how many other sites you post on being that Getbig is the end all be all when it comes to photos...I'm guessing that 8 years photo's really don't hold a lot of weight on other BB sites though. In fact, it really doesn't make sense that the last time you were in shape was 8 years ago.  You have way too many post numbers talking about being in shape after 2004 for people to not questi0n it. :-\

I mean I competed in 2007 and looked in pretty sick shape!

In 2008 I was very busy with work, and spent a lot of time travelling to Qatar and Europe to oversee the expansion of our business and starting a new company.

At the end of 2008 I moved back to the US to do my Masters, right after that I started my PhD..... so I put competing on hold until I'm done with school!

So this is why you won't see any pictures of me competing after 2007!

If you have a problem with all the pictures I'm posting.... you know you have the option to not look at them....  A better choice... you have an off button on your PC, feel free to use it!

All this talk - and I have YET to see pictures of you?   ???  Are you embarassed to post them or something?  You seem very critical of others pictures, but I mean.... what are you scared to post your own pictures?

Did you really step up the dumbell rack and attempt to curl a 90 lb dumbbell? WTF bro. Is Groink your cousin or something? Anyone in the gym curling more than a 60 pound dumbbell is straight out doucebaggery... And that is coming straight from the offices of The Arnold Schwarzenegger. No joke he is laughing at anyone doing 90+LB curls.

Yes I did - I rep the 70s and 75s right now... (At one point I could do 10 per arm with the 70's)....  So decided to try the 90s... got 2 per arm!  Just wanted to see how it would go!

But thanks for the advice, can you post pictures of your arm, so I can see how effective your training methods are?

Tons of pictures, but lets see those 90 Lb dumbbell curl video's . That body you show no matter if in shape or 100 pounds heavier can't do reps with 80 to 100 pound dumbbells on the standing D.curls. You're bullshitting.

I stand corrected - it was actually 85 lbs that I had on video (never filmed the 90s - because I didn't even think I could do it)..... Sadly that video is gone (it was taken back in 2005), I'm trying to find it, there is even a discussion on a forum, where Layne Norton comments on how shitty my form was (which it was) - I'll send it to you when I find it!

Anyways, if it makes you feel better here is a video of me doing 128X9 EZ Bar curls last year.... (This was my 7th set btw)

Here's also a pic of me curling 70 lbs sophomore year in college:

lol. bro sorry but many people on here do 135 pound straight bar curls because where lazy and its easy to load the bar to that and it looks nothing like what your trying pull off. Are you really trying to show how 128 pound easy curl=close to 100 pound dumbbell curls? WTF bro. Calling out someone for an obvious lie is attention whoring? You sir are a douche mallet. His video of 128 for silly reps show he can't touch 90 pound dbells. Shame on you for encouraging him. The fact that most people think hes cool doesn't/shouldn't give him a pass for lying. And your 20 inch calve handle is also ridiculous and you know it deep down...

If pro bodybuilders on here can get called the fck out and run off, then even the 'good" guys need to be brought to the forefront. Big Ach had never even thought about curling 90-100 pound dbells. And if he has, then he is more of a douche then Groink. Shame on all you mofo's for thinking/saying 100 lbs dcurls for reps is no big deal. The world's strongest man who weight 300-380 pounds would have a hard time with it. Let alone "all natural" over the hill schmoes... Its shit like this that creates "moderators" like that Blaze dude on Mayhem with the 24 inch bicep implants. That guy is supposedly one cool mofo...but how fucking cool could he really be being under 5'9 200 pounds walking around with 24 inch arms. Come one man!!!

i agree with you in that the form you're going to see on db curls above say 60 pounds is going to involve a lot of trap, shoulder and lower back involvement no matter who you are, its just not biomechanically possible for any human being to hold their arms pinned against their side, stand totally straight and curl 100 pound db's with a biceps contraction alone.

So what i gather here is and everywhere else is:
-Nothing wrong with the workouts\routines\training
-The people who do them are stupid and smug

I bet they think the same about bodybuilders and people who take spin classes think the same about everyone else, like bodybuilders think people who do bodypump and spin classes are retarted, etc, etc, etc.

Yea, some of the women have that attitude it seems.

There are a few crossfit trainees that are pleasant and dont have the arrogant attitude that the rest seem to sport.  I could really care less what their workouts are like, or how effective they are.  What bugs me is the general persona of most of them.  They seem to think they are an elite little "group" at the gym and that the rest of us are just there taking up space.

Just like most crossfitters are smug but there are exceptions ( i hope so because i dont know any crossfitters)
I just hate when someone puts labels and make assumptions about people. She has a tattoo therefore she's a whore or like you said a bodybuilder is a moron, now it seems like crossfitters are smug and stupid, skaters are idiots, etc

Just think it's stupid and unfortunetly had to live with it for part of my life. It tought me to shit on what other people thinnk and do whatever the fuck i want and have fun.

Mostly for attention whores and fake "true" trainees.
In Austria it goes under a different name "Cross Training" and well, same shit.

"Cross - picture" is a banner from a nearby mma school.

I've had a lot of other lifters there mention that they hate how crossfit has taken over the place as well, so apparently I'm not the only one who feels that way.

The music the crossfit trainers play is aweful!!!  I put in a Rocky CD and half the gym was talking about how great it was...mysteriously...the CD was somehow thrown out during that next week....my friend had heard one of the crossfit trainers saying how he hated the Rocky music, so we are pretty sure he was the one who got rid of it.  I mean, honestly, who doesn't like the Rocky music to train to?

At least they are doing resistance training. It's going to get physical results. But like personal training courses, over time you need to know how to change things to keep getting results and they wouldn't know what to do. But typical fuckwits, think bodybuilders have no idea how to train and there method is the best it builds real world strength or whatever helps them make $$$ selling their shit.

'Crossfit' my cardiovascular system would smoke any of them but i do more than just bodybuilding. I just don't pretend i'm better than another sport because of it. Except fucking crossfitters; and Kettlebells  ;)

I don't put down what anyone does for fitness.  What bothers me about crossfit is the attitude that they have the superior way to Nirvana.

Truth be told women that are really into a good cross fit program look fantastic. Another truth is that many bodybuilders couldn't keep up in a serious cross fit class. Same thing about guys who run and do bodyweight exercises hard core. They are in serious condition.

I haven't seen any crossfit stuff at any gyms but I watched it once on espn2 and it looked pretty cool. The guys were in very good shape and also looked the part. I'd rather be a heavily jacked crossfit guy (so just a little bigger than the biggest guys who do it) who has to use less drugs than a mr olympia guy

because they are ectomorphs in the firsplace who do abs and barbell curls and often run. They have no merit, they re hypocrits. Their good looks are genetical mostly. I still have to see a typical skinny fat man or woman losing weight and getting in decent shape doing "crossfit".

I'm going to tell you what my real thoughts are on this. It's a good concept if the trainer actually knows how to program the actual training but the problem is a lot of these crossfit trainers don't. What educated trainer in their right minds would ever prescribe multiple reps in an O-lift is beyond me. By multiple reps I mean 5 or more. After 5 reps form starts breaking down and thats where the injuries begin even if the weight is relatively light. Ok, now take an O-lift and start pairing it up with a high rep exercise, already you're at a CNS overload. Ok...now take that and do as many reps as many rounds as you can for time. You're bound to get injured and you're bound to eat shit!!

Crossfitters are out of shape twinks who can't decide what to do. They can't run or swim. Every time they post their squats or deadlifts they make sure to post their bodyweight, for example 130 lbs, as if being small is a enough reason to be weak. They enjoy doing pull ups, but they can't do real pull ups. They enjoy doing gymnastics, but can't walk on their hands.

The smart ones like you see in the crossfit games have some pretty sick conditioning I have to admit. But crossfit in general as a whole have had so many injuries no out side insurance provider will carry them. The are self-insured.

I don't do Crossfit...I think that whole speed repping concept is what nearly got a number of Iowa Hawkeye football players a ticket to the morgue a couple of years ago.

The best trainer I ever worked with was a 100lb chick who fought...we trained like fighters.  lots of bag work, bodyweight work on the floor and basic cardio like running in place. None of this "I'm racing you"  bullshit...just work you r ass off until the bell rings nd it's time for the next round.   I think the marketing term fo rit now is "HIIT".  We just called it "exercising".

Closest I ever came to puking was when her trainer was in and I had to chase his ass around for five minutes throwing combinations at him while he held pads....

LOL..."muscle confusion" is a Joe Weider buzz word that companies like P90x are using to sell products much like what Weider did to sell his programs. "Muscle confusion" was coined about 50 years ago. Ex; Your biceps don't know whether it's doing a preacher curl or regular curl a bench press or DB press. It's a bogus name to sell products.

I'll get flamed for this, but here goes:

I actually have a cross fit training certification.  I was heavy into in my last year of and my first year out of college before I got into bodybuilding.  If you actually follow the principles of Crossfit and follow the exact training regimens they provide, you can get in the best all around shape of your life.  I was a collegiate athlete and at times went through hours of intense practices that sometimes may not hold a candle to a hard month of Crossfit.

Anyway, just my 2 pennies.  The fad/cult aspect of it is what causes the nose up in the air attitude similar to how it does in any cult.  I'm a bodybuilder now and are any of you fellow bodybuilders ignorant enough to think that in an every day, average gym that people aren't looking at you and thinking similar thoughts about the juicehead in the gym?

My policy: don't worry about what other people are doing in their workouts.  If someone is at risk for injury and you notice it, sure, help out.  Otherwise, put your headphones on, train hard, and don't worry about what the other people in the gym are doing.

I'm sure crossfit is a very functional skill to have. Just the other day I was getting a trolley at the supermarket and I really struggled because they had replaced the coin/key system with a new one where you have to run 25 lengths of the carpark, and do 50 press ups, 20 chin ups, 100 kettle bell raises, and 60 bodyweight squats in 3 mins.

Glad you asked....

Knowing I could easily do that routine, I searched for a 45 plate and a belt/chain so I could increase the resistance load but alas they had all been taken. I desperately needed a trolley full of reeces ice cream (as I was starting the gh15 protocol with bunk kigtropinas - so would need as much natural night-time casein induced HGH as I could get) so I did what I know best and quickly tenses my butt and showed my straited glutes to the security guard who was happy to give me the master key for the trolleys.

You have to tell the whole story!
Of course the security guard wasn't happy enough with JUST the (i bet) marvelous appearence of your striated glutes and couldn't believe how such well defined, cut and hard they were and how they were just there in front of him almost within his grasp.
So i bet he offered you the master key for the trolleys but in exchange for a private posing session in his security booth where he purposely turned off the air conditioning and handed you a sparckly thong just to see you all sweaty and red as you proudly flexed and tensed every muscle in your body after an exhausting ordeal of dragging a 45 plate belted to your torso while running 25 lengths of the carpark, and doing 50 press ups, 20 chin ups, 100 kettle bell raises, and 60 bodyweight squats in 3 mins.

No I wasn't dragging the 45 plate, it was in a pinch grip the whole time! what do think I am some kind of gaylord?

OMG i'm sorry! i don't want to report false facts here. God knows how Getbbigers are in that regard, they only go for the truth!
But i'm still amazed at your superhuman feat of pinching that 45 and then right after still be able to hold on to that grapefruit while you proceeded doing a back and forth motion while tensing and sequeezing your glutes.

Nah they were all busy buying acai berry detox pills, colon cleanse, amazing teeth whitener trick that single mum doesn't want dentists to find out about, and making $5000 a week working from home.

Cross for has a built in excuse for weak fuckers to continue to lift baby weight.
Because it's so cardiovascularly taxing, you CAN'T lift heavy. Perfect justification for pushing girlie poundages.

The stuff on the rings is EXtremly challenging but if your looking to increase your lifts, cross fit is not the move.

And yes the -"This is the only way to train" - ::) attitude by the drones is pretty annoying.

True say.

I'll bet that there were a couple of 'crossfitters' on that cruise ship that toppled in Italy at the weekend. When everyone was screaming for their life and cramming into life boats, they were swimming to and from the shore so they didn't miss a session.

They are annoying, but a lot of bbers are just as bad and at least the CF stuff is tough vs a leisurely stroll on the treadmill. :D

It is an excuse for a girl to dress like a whore and workout thinking she is hardcore.  Their excuse is, have you tried it?  It is hard.  I bet it is, like anything else new.  I would probably struggle the first few times because it is a new workout but after a month I would be bored.

Same shit with P90X.  I tried it to see the fuss.  had trouble with some of it at first, by day 30 I was barely breaking a sweat.  They want you to grab DBs, then do curls and I am hiting them hard and they are transitioning to pullups but my bis were'nt even tired yet, it felt rushed and I got nothing out of it.

Don't forget his biggest sponsor/partner is Scott Connelly.  The doctor of snake oil sales. Marketing Arginine as NO2 and charging idiots $50 for a $5 supplement rebranded.

Look at these worthless emo whores hanging onto the walking liver failure's nuts.
Louie Simmons more or less exposes the CrossFit idiocy... but seems subtle enough to not destroy all hopes of additional dime.

Concern for Injury

A more pressing concern is the potential for injury. CrossFit WODs sometimes use Olympic lifts, like the snatch, for high repetitions when lifters are in a state of exhaustion. That worries almost everyone I interviewed.

"The problem has to do with fatigue and going to failure," says Stuart McGill, Ph.D., a professor of spine biomechanics at the University of Waterloo, Ontario. "Some exercises are conducive to this and others are not." McGill puts Olympic lifts in the "not" category.

"Repeating movements where form is compromised with fatigue really does not fit the philosophy of Olympic lifting to reduce injury risk and enhance performance."

Then there's the issue of coaching. "You can learn the mechanics of an Olympic lift in 2 days, but you can't develop enough of a proficiency to teach others," Krahn says. "The guy who's teaching you a complex movement may have very little knowledge about it."

Rhabdomyolysis is another health concern that's become associated with CrossFit over the years. "Rhabdo" can occur when muscles are worked so hard that the fibers break down, releasing the protein myoglobin into the bloodstream. In extreme cases, it can lead to kidney damage or even kidney failure. It's commonly seen in people with crush injuries, such as those from auto accidents.

Former U.S. Navy information systems technician Makimba Mimms was awarded $300,000 in damages from his local gym, the CrossFit affiliate training company, and his trainer for injuries he sustained during a CrossFit workout in 2005. Those injuries included rhabdomyolysis.

Rather than refute the association with potentially fatal injury—or at least try to change the subject—CrossFit has used it as proof of its intensity. The WOD that nearly killed Mimms was renamed "Makimba" and recategorized as a children's workout. The derision ignores not just the seriousness of Mimms's injuries but also the fact that no one is immune to rhabdo, including elite athletes. In January 2011, a local paper reported that 13 football players at the University of Iowa were hospitalized with rhabdo after a workout that included 100 squats with 50 percent of their 1-rep max. It wasn't a CrossFit workout, but it was in the same ballpark: a technically complex exercise performed for high repetitions under conditions of extreme fatigue.
