UFC veteran Thiago Silva is being alleged to have barricaded himself inside his Florida home on Thursday evening and was surrounded by a Broward Sheriff’s SWAT team after threatening people at a jiu-jitsu school, according to a report in the Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel.
While Silva was not directly named in the report, sources close to the situation confirmed to Sherdog.com that it was the UFC light heavyweight who was involved in the SWAT standoff. According to news station South Florida 6 NBC, the suspect was taken into custody at 11:15 p.m. ET.
The suspect allegedly walked into the Pablo Popovitch Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center at 777 E. Oakland Park Blvd at approximately 7:45 p.m. ET, made unspecified threats and left.
No one at the school was injured, investigators told the Sun-Sentinel, but NBC 6 South Florida reports the suspect was armed at the time. The suspect later went to the 2000 block of Coral Heights Court and locked himself inside his home.
Silva, who holds his fight camps with the Blackzilians team, has been booked to square off with Ovince St. Preux at UFC 171 in Dallas on March 15. The Brazilian last competed at UFC Fight Night 29 in October, taking a unanimous decision over Matt Hamill.

well, he didn't rob anybody and didn't shoot anybody.
I don't believe having a standoff with swat is a crime itself, I know mine wasn't and mine lasted 8hours.. they didn't even bill me for it.
at worst he'll get charged with "making terroistic threats" or something, and his defense would be he was under duress and get maybe 6 months in county jail.
his lawyers better get him to PC-up, or else he seems like the type of guy who'd turn a 6month county jail sentence into a 26yr prison sentence.

Thiago would have been less likely to be arrested if he just shot the dude and pleaded self defense. It is Florida after all.

They're saying on some of the boards that he might of stuck the gun in his wife's mouth at one point during this whole fracas. He was charged multiple aggravated battery counts and resisting an officer, so it will be interesting how this shakes out.

long story for another thread. and, no, I was armed. luckily with only 1 firearm on me (although the police/swat/sheriff's didn't know that.. they though I had all my guns with me, which is why they never breached the doors/windows). the rest were in another room I had at the motel and in the trunk of my car. all were registered to me and I had a concealed carry permit so I didn't get a "commission of a felony with a firearm". generally they only charge you with that if you don't have a permit to carry and/or the gun(s) isn't in your name.

It's Florida, of course SWAT has to be involved in arresting people who allegedly verbally threaten others. They also taser the shit out of people, have some the most high speed cases out of any police force in the nation and typically shoot first and ask questions later.
