Title: Disenchanted with training partners.
Post by: Sokolsky on October 07, 2015, 12:42:38 PM
We can probably all relate with starting out at a gym with a friend (or making friends there) and training together on a regular basis.

Lately I have been moving away with seeking contact all together at the gym where I train. I have been a member there for the past five years now, and know practically everyone, or atleast everyone I have ever had the slightest intention of giving attention. Yet as of late I find it increasingly bothersome to have to deal with the same people over and over, always with the same problems and the same mental issues [read: dillusional].

The persisting gym-and-bro-culture has been bugging me for a while now, and considering I practically know everyone (or people know me) I find it increasingly difficult to detatch from all the bullshit.

Hence my question:
- Has any of you succesfully removed themselves from the gymbro-culture? As increasingly I see no other way out then to join another gym and ignore everyone there from the start (including staff).

best thing is to never get to know anyone in the first place and ignore everyone from the moment you step in

Tell them you`re starting fresh and gonna` get serious about your training and you will not talk during your workout.

If they don`t like it,fuck `em,that`s your time to train, not bullshit.

Plus you paid money to lift, not to socialize.

You can say all of the above and put it so it`s done nicely,so you won`t look like an asshole!   :D

I simply fear that won't be enough. It's gotten to the point where people feel 'familiar' enough to all of a sudden start working in or whatever in between sets or right when I'm about to start.

Given I wear my headphones throughout training, and don't actively engage in conversation, especially when I'm doing my working sets. You'd imagine people would pick up on the "not here to socialize"-vibe, yet they don't.

Quite frankly put, people have been invading my private space, and despite being made aware of it, they simply do not care or just don't get it.

This is why I give a customary greeting when entering the gym, then I get busy.........no time for bullshit listening to other peoples problems.

You could just bring a gun to the gym and shoot them if they talk to you. Shouldn't have to kill more than one or two before the rest get the picture.

I just started at a new gym and I don't talk to anybody except to ask them to relinquish a piece of gear. I don't wear earphones either. I'm just all up in my own head.

is it you or everybody else that is delusional?

Probably everyone else, since I'm grounded by my frequent alcohol and drug use.

You could just bring a gun to the gym and shoot them if they talk to you. Shouldn't have to kill more than one or two before the rest get the picture.

Wear huge headphones and don't make eye contact, just stare to the floor/walls in between sets.

Always this.

Never understood the problem, honestly; impossible to be interrupted with this mindset. On the rare occasion, "Hey, five more sets. Almost done," or whatever, really not complicated at all.

Hat low, headphones on, focus on present or next set. Won't even notice distractions.

I notice for so many people gym time is a social party. There was a whole crew of people that knew each other and were talking all the time. I kept to myself and got the reputation for being a dick because I wouldn't socialize with the regular crew. I was there to train. I lifted and got out.

Wear assless chaps to workout in at the gym. Most will avoid you big time. The rest will just.......well you know.

Two kinds of people, people who keep to themselves and people who don't. You are the problem not the people in the Gym. You will go to a new gym and yes the first few weeks you will keep to yourself, you will brag how great and wonderful it is (it really is). Next you will talk to just one guy simply because well that one guy knows someone that you might know or some other sick pathetic excuse you social retards give yourself. Before you know it you will be back to the same BS you are now.

Like I said you are the problem, its a disease, it brings only hell and no good.

I urge you to see real help on this from a professional therapist, only they can try to unravel why you feel the need to go against what you know is wrong and disastrous.

Simple rule, the more social one is the more fucked up their life is, this rule has no exceptions. Even if they are billionaires (rare for a social person to ever become successful) if they are social they are dealing with drama 24/7.

I guarantee you that you are the same fool that anywhere you go to more than a few times you get to know everyone there. You know all the people who work in a restaurant you frequent, you know way to many of your neighbors etc.

Interesting thought, and thinking on it, this might be true.

I have always trained alone aside from when I was powerlifting. I don't mind helping people with questions at times, but won't stop what I am doing to talk.

I say no to spotting because one idiot kid on gear tore his pec benching and i had to pull the bar off him.

What up with all these gear head kids tearing pecs?!
