I'm thinking od taking Hydroxycut or the equivalent to shed a layer of fat. What's the best way to take it ( time of day etc. )?   I value the opinions of you guys even though i'm sure there will be a few insults.

Your better off taking:
1ea 25mg ephedrine tablet
1ea caffine tablet
1ea baby asperine
The three combined will burn fat and were phoned in the fat burners of the past. Take twice a day. Once you wake up and once 30 minutes before training. That is the same combo found in fat burners years ago before the ephedra got banned. Fat burners on the market now are useless without the ephedra. You need that combo in order to burn fat. Do lots of cardio at the end of your training session. Hope this helps.

Don't waste your time or money on that crap.

If you really want to take a thermo, buy some ephedrine (Bronkaid), some Caffeine (Vivarin), and some aspirin. 

Honestly, though, you really don't need it.  Just cut your calories and up your cardio and you should be fine.

agreed.  reduce your carbs.  don't reduce the fat in your diet.  increase the protein.  eat many small meals throughout the day.   you'll get better results quicker than you would from a pill.

my advice is buy the product, support the bodybuilding industry and contribute to more professional bodybuilders getting more expensive cars to show up in mits battle for olympia videos, while they at the same time whine about not getting paid enough
