HATE EM  :P
I'm not into them either (although I did like Titanic - never saw it before and Michael loved it, and wanted me to see it with him).  We love horror and action flicks.  Sometimes comedy..depending on the actors.

thats because they recycle and nothing new comes out. the 1970's when a stranger calls was down right scary.to many movies today ring/grudge take a idea from japan and add american actresses and take the scary out for some reason. I think sometimes they confuse bloody with scary and its not the same thing.

Yup, they think because someone is chasing someone with an axe it's scary, but your right...when a stranger calls really put the "chill" in horror.

of course, but thought they took a good idea and tried to twist it at the end with the girl, could have been better.

I thought it was pretty good, I did however predict the ending.  I would have liked it better if the kid did something to bring the girl down.  And...one thing I didn't really like was Jon BonJovi as an actor in it.  He's a singer...not an actor.

I was thinking of 'What Women Want' the other day during the hairy back thread. Just picturing Mel Gibson waxing his legs for the first time just cracks me up everytime. And 'The Devil Wears Prada' was fabulous. It somehow made me look forward to 'Ugly Betty". I thought Meryl Streep was sooooo good. She just keeps surprising me all the time. Anytime you can get Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway & Stanley Tucci togther in the same film, ...it's worth seeing, no matter the plot.

Uh oh...we have hit my specialty!!!  I am the master of movies, which is why I chose it as a career.  Its too bad I am tired...I could write a thousand pages on good horror and love flicks.

I'll give you cliff-notes.  These are the MUST SEE movies.

Horror flicks aren't really my favorite due to their LACK of quality acting and characterization.  They are fun for an audience, but not for a person who knows what should be going on.  Some good ones I do like, and was scared after leaving the theatre were...

The Ring, yea I'm a wuss.  It scared the shit out of me.
Exorcism of emily rose
the entity
And the Exorcist.  If anyone has seen that movie and NOT been scared...you have issues!!

I tend to be afraid of ghost, demon, devil, God style movies.  Things that could possibly really happen.  The mass murder, screaming girl running with no shirt is not my style.

For Chick flicks...they seem to have the same plot in each one.  If someone can come up with something new...I'll be the first to see it.  I don't cry easily, and I HATE chick flicks.  Buuuuttttt....a few that make me sniffle...

Horse whisperer...Robert Redford (old and dreamy), and kristen scott thomas.
Love affair...Annette Benning and Warren Beatty
By far, the BEST chick flick I have ever seen....The notebook.  It took me until just a few months ago to see it, at the request of a friend.  I have never cried so much in my life.  I asked Bob to watch it with me a few days later...he even let a tear go!!!  I've not seen anything that tops it yet!!  And I refuse to watch it again because it makes me too emotional.

Gorgeous Face, dreamy eyes, big strong muscles, ...and is secure enough in his masculinity to shed a tear or two during a chick flick?  :D  oooooooooooooooh I want him!  :P {lol}

I think the last time (maybe only time) i cried was at the end of "Blow".

I don't really like "romantic comedies" (aka chick flicks), cause it seems too artificial to me. Love/attraction doesnt happen like that (at least not for me). The humour is also a bit too soft to my liking.

I'm not into horror at all. Maybe i should see "saw" to see what the big deal is.

Sidewalks of New York (Brill)

She’s the One (Another Edward Burns movie. How could it be bad?)

Amelie

G.I. Jane (I'm obsessed!)

A Walk on the Moon (Viggo again, doing a sweet hippie-boy)

Gia

Walk on Water (Just a great story)

French Kiss

I cry at just about anything. I'm such a giant mush.

I like chick flicks, but not all of them. I like most of the John Cusack movies, etc...

I pretty much see every movie, unless it's just god awful. I love the movies!

Baise Moi (Lots of man-murder and graphic sex. The ultimate chick flick?  :P )

most men would find the leads in that movie very unattractive . . . so, yeah, probably the ultimate chick flick.

Now a movie w pretty little ludivine sagnier I could watch multiple times.  even if she's bashing in some poor gaul's skull.

I'm not a huge fan of chick flicks but I've been known to watch'em on occasion... Ghost, Pretty Woman, 50 First Dates, Jerry Maguire to name a few. A girl needs a little romance in her life from time to time.

I'll watch pretty much anything though my guilty pleasure is old 80's flicks (i.e. The Princess Bride, Say Anything, Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club) along with horror, which Hollywood is incapable of doing correctly anymore (don't get me started!) & my secret weakness is kung-fu flicks - go figure :-\

I have a sick, sick obsession w/kung fu flicks... I'll watch'em no matter how cheesy or badly dubbed they are - I just don't care! I freakin' love Bruce Lee & bow down in worship of Jet Li.

My dad, we'd watch'em together when I was little. Every Sat. afternoon Kung Fu Theater came on & I was in front of the tv from 1 - 4:00 like clockwork! I used to love it when they'd have Bruce Lee week - a different flick every night, it was great!

I love chinese movies as well. They have some of the best fight choreography & rope work.
It's like a dance. I'm a sucker for pretty much any genre, as long as there is production value to it.

There is a French director I'm sooo waiting to see. I saw his debut short and it was remarkable, I can't believe some studio hasn't snapped him up already. He did a 60 minute short about a paranoid guy who ends up in an insane asylum. In the end, it turns out he was right all along. He zooms in on the fly that had been the object of this poor guy's obsession, ...and as the camera gets closer & closer, ...we see in the final shot, that the fly is actually not a real fly, ...but a mechanical one manufactured by the CIA. It was BRILLIANT! I couldn't believe it was the debut work of a student film maker. It looked like it had a multimillion dollar hollywood budget behind it.

For those of you who like tear jerkers, you have to get a DVD copy of Nicholas Nickleby and a box of kleenex. I swear that movie will take you through every single emotion possible, ...and in the end, you will just be spent.

The two women in Baise Moi were supposed to be deadended losers so it wouldn't have made much sense to cast gorgeous women in their roles, although the dark-haired one was kind of vixen-like I thought.  Actually I shouldn't have thrown it under chick flicks, since it was mostly men running to see it in droves for all the graphic sex (which turned out to be more or less there but fleeting.)

I can see your attraction to Ludivine Sagnier though... she seems like your type.  :)

Toxy,  I think that's dreamy that you thought I would like that but I can see that at least 2 actors I'd really prefer never to watch,....ever are in it (Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant).

An example of a love story movie that I would like would be:  "Kill Bill"
