he also knows how to display his physique to maximum effect

Mr Olympia in waiting but still needs to sort a few things.  More thickness required, needs some serious improvement in back thickness and detail and low lats if he can although he may not have a lot of say in the matter, hams too a bit.  Hands placed slightly too high on the front lat spread and like too many pros, seems to hide in his side chest.  Why the hell can no one hit this shot properly and in the best way for their physique?  I would say that in terms of skull, Dennis is streets ahead of most other pros.

I dont think there was 1 second in this routine when i said "boring" or "bodybuilding is going down hill":

As Gunter said, more routines set to classical music or powerful love ballads would really bring some class to the posing round. But also more BBers choreographing their routines, so it flows nicely.

Some great routines are:

Arnold Schwarzenegger - 1974 Guest Posing at Mr Southern Hemisphere in Australia
Dorian Yates - 1993 Olympia
Flex Wheeler - 1998 Olympia
Frank Zane - 1982 Olympia
Kai Greene - 2007 Keystone Pro
Lee Labrada - 1991 Olympia
Milos Sarcev - 1993 Olympia
Rich Gaspari - 1987 Olympia

How are spastic routines impressive ?? I don't understand..ok routine...but not even close to great. And I like Dennis...just the robotical moves and weak transitions and poor muscle control.

Great list there! People don't give Dorian the credit he deserves when it comes to posing, he was a master poser indeed.

Some of my other favorites include:
Kevin Levrone - Mr. Olympia 1998
Nasser El Sonbaty - 1997 Finland GP

Feminine posing has no place in bodybuilding. These are powerful physiques and should be displayed with powerful music and routines. Routines such as Shawn Ray's with soft music and "ballerina" type posing is actually detracting from the physique in my opinion.

Kenny Wheeler 98 Olympia man that was the shit........  End of story!  King is a nut and ya its different but hell gotta give him props for trying something different plus he is a pro and paid his dues.  He is trying just like all of us to improve so I at least gotta give it up to the guy.  Do I pose like that no I don't but at least it is different and adds a little spice to a show...  Its funny people blazz it here on the board but if they were there in person they would be enjoying the routine and cheering.

Labrada's routines in 87 and 88 were among his best.  Phill Hill and Bop Paris in 88 both posed superbly.  Obviously, Bob Birdsong in 84 too.

Nasser?!  When did he have a great routine?

I remember all he would do is have some rock music playing while he walked from one side of the stage to the other hitting a most muscular.  :-\

I agree nasser was definitely not a good poser. he had like two or three classic poses kinda like ruhl. He didnt have flexibility to be a good poser he was just to big kinda like coleman and jay... Not saying that any of the fallowing are bad bodybuilders . Good Routines = Flex wheeler, Arnold, Ed Corney, Shawn Ray, wolfe now that i saw his routine. Blade has some posses.  I always loved that pose by priest where his arms are up in the air and his head is looking up aswell. anyone have a pic of that???

The two best routines of his that come to mind are at the 1997 Finnish GP & 1997 Olympia. His sheer size allowed for him to simply stand there and hit poses. You don't have to be a Lee Labrada to pose well. Arnold never danced around, but he hit exciting poses, transitioned well and had great music. It just came together.

That routine is well choreographed, but there is way too much "dancing" and he doesn't hold the poses long enough.

Bodybuilding is about building a powerful physique. Therefore, the posing must be powerful. Routines like Shawn Ray's posing to feminine music and such actually detracts in my opinion because you are removing that look and perception of strength and power.

The "dancing" is what makes that routine. Labrada isn't a big guy with thick slabs of muscle on him, so it would probably be less interesting/impressive to watch him just stand there and hit the mandatories over and over. That's probably why he went for the creative route and it paid off big time. That routine is better than almost any that I've seen, including bigger guys. They might beat him in prejudging, but you don't have to be big to be a good poser. Alot of the best posers are the smaller guys who don't rely on muscle mass to see them through.

Shawn Ray's routine at the 1999 Olympia was great. It depends on the music itself and how it's posed to. I like seeing posing to love ballads like Lee Priest and Porter Cottrell used to. The physique is powerful, but it's also beautiful and can be posed to that sort of music. In the end, BBing is objective. No right and wrong way to do things.
