'When the police officer stopped the driver, he soon realized that the car was not insured,' Cpl Robert Mcdonald, spokesperson for the RCMP’s Lower Mainland District Traffic Services told The Province.
Depending on the driver’s background, the price for insuring a Lamborghini can range between $14,000 to $16,000 annually, according to a generic insurance price quote and current owners.
One of the most lavish exceptions could easily be the Lamborghini Murcielago that limited to 350 in production has a monthly insurance rate of $2,863.03 according to CarZi.com.
Cpl Mcdonald told MailOnline that a $500 fine is a standard price, issued to anyone no matter their vehicle who's found driving without insurance.
But in addition to that offense, Mcdonald said: 'He's modified the front license plate of the vehicle so it's not as big as a normal license plate and it's an offense.'
Owners of high-end vehicles may try and squeak by without marking both the front and back with license plates that could otherwise be seen as blemishing its body.
In this driver’s case, he tried to make it smaller.
Without the legal ability to go, officers said they had no other choice but to tow the man’s $430,000 vehicle.
Cpt Mcdonald says the driver, who is the owner of the vehicle, has since purchased insurance and has collected his car.
He said the driver had previously owned insurance but it had expired.
