I'm sure it was the combination of his catalogue of music, and the proceeds from Graceland.

Elvis's estate (much like Michael Jackson) still bring in millions of dollars a year. Every year.

Seriously, as a human species, I can't think of two more important people (like it or not) than Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley. There are equals....George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, bhanks, Alexander The Great, bhanks, Julius Caesar.   You get my point.
