House panel subpoenas Gonzales for documents in prosecutor firings
WASHINGTON (Associated Press) — The House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed new documents Tuesday from Attorney General Alberto Gonzales as part of its investigation into the firings of federal prosecutors, with the panel chairman saying he had run out of patience.
"We have been patient in allowing the department to work through its concerns regarding the sensitive nature of some of these materials," Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., wrote Gonzales in a letter accompanying the subpoena. "Unfortunately, the department has not indicated any meaningful willingness to find a way to meet our legitimate needs.,"
"At this point further delay in receiving these materials will not serve any constructive purpose," Conyers said. He characterized the subpoena as a last resort after weeks of negotiations with Justice over documents and e-mails the committee wants.
The Justice Department did not have an immediate comment.

Of course not. No killing of brown skinned people is involved.
Now if he had an opportunity to waterboard Gonzales to get to the truth, I'm sure his nipples would be just erect with excitement.

Terry, you'd a fcking republican, just like me.
You DO give a shit about people lying to congress. You believe in JUSTICE and the RIGHT THING.
This clown alberto EMBARASSED our great party by lying to congress, lying to judges, lying to the media, and whoever else would listen. He is a DISGRACE.
You should be calling for his resignation along with other great republican congressmen and senators who already have. The man lacks the ethics needed to lead our justice department. You with me?

Four senators said Monday that they suspected that the Justice Department had failed to turn over all relevant documents related to the dismissals of eight United States attorneys.
The department has released more than 3,000 pages of e-mail messages and other files. But, the senators wrote in a letter to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, “We are concerned that additional documents relevant to the committee’s investigations are missing or have been withheld.”

Maybe children with ADD (or child in man's body) don't but I would say that most intelligent adults do care of about this topic.

Are you going to waterboard him or send him to mexico? Maybe they can make him stand outside a Homedepot for a month or so.

considering that no one should care if those guys were fired and he never should have been questioned about it in the first place....kind of like Libby. It wasn't a crime to leak Plam'e identity, so why were questions even asked.

If they didn't feel as if they had something to hide, why would they bother lying about it?
Why have they stonewalled for so long that the Congress had to subpoena them?

Don't try and bring the facts into this discussion. It does sound similar to Libby.

Ribo, I don't know (and niether do you) all the ins and outs of this case, I do know that the DOJ was within it's authority to fire those lawyers. I am sick and tired of the Dems (and GOP for that matter) trying to make everything a big deal because of politics. Gonzalez, did NOTHING wrong by firing those people, despite what his motives were, it was one of the rights of holding that position. He doesn't need to answer any of the questions and in the end it is another case (the 2nd this year) of Repubs being spinless and afraid to stand up to the Dems.

so you're saying that the US justice system (run by Alberto Gonzales) is corrupt and wrongly prosecuted and convicted I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby Jr.?

Scooter libby should never have been brought to any sort of trial, a waste of time in a Dem witch hunt

That's essentially what the jury who convicted him said. :-\

you mean the jury that had a head juror ready to sign a book deal the day after the trial and had to have something to write about...no eyebrows were raised on the left side of the isle on that one

You were obviously attributing a comment to me that I didn't make. Do I think he was wrongly prosecuted and convicted? Wrongly prosecuted = yes. Wrongly convicted = no. I agree with the jury that he shouldn't have been prosecuted.

then why did the jury prosecute?
What's the problem with the US Justice System?

the head juror (remember this guys had a book deal in the waiting) ws quoted saying "I'm not sure shy we are deciding on Libby. We are all wondering where bush and cheney are" (paraphrased)....in my own little CT, I would bet money he wsa very persuasive in the juror room. What kind of book could he have written if they had said innocent?

well, when you consider it's led by that little liar gonzalez, it's not hard to see why they wouldn't be doing their job.
i agree libby was the fall guy, but he could have easily flipped. he knew a pardon was in the works tho.

Juries don't "prosecute."
I didn't say there was "problem with the US Justice System." Brother. But since you ask, I'd say the main problem "with the US Justice System" is it heavily favors those with money.
