still making small financial mistakes at age 61
« on: July 10, 2018, 04:19:01 PM »
so I decided to buy a pool table for my family room. did some research on the internet, decided to buy a table from a online dealer for 1600. had good reviews, and seemed legit. payed thru PayPal, so I never ever met the owner, just texted and email. as soon as the installers drove up to my house I kind of knew that I was screwed. the table came in a box, and on the side of the box said MADE IN CHINA?????? I Called up the owner and bitched, and he said American tables are the same, but double the price. so I was stuck with a china table. the installers looked like they knew what they were doing, and one guy said he had been installing pool tables for 20 years. they could not have fucked up the installation any worse. they didn't do a lot of stuff they were supposed to. so I bitched again to the owner, and he knocked off 100 bucks.

so I started playing on the table, and I realized that I freaking love the game of pool. I was playing 2 to three hours a day, everyday. but the table sucked. just sucked. so I went to a local pool hall to try there tables, and the difference was night and day. the table I played on was a diamond table, which is the Rolex of pool tables.

so today, I GAVE MY PIECE OF SHIT POOL TABLE AWAY FOR FREE, just to get rid of it. this is after I spent 400 dollars to refelt the table with the best felt on the market. didn't matter, you can't put a Rolex watch band on a timex watch. doesn't work.

so Friday, I have a brand new diamond pro am pool table being delivered, for 5500. so I lost out on 1500, plus 400 for the reflex. my mistake cost me 1900 bucks. pretty big mistake. but thats how I roll. I made a mistake, and took care of it.

All the greats take big hits.

Vince Goodrum, CSN, MFT, HPP, CEO, lost his first five million dollars before making 45 million dollars.

Pool is fun, haven’t played in years. To bad you got fucked but the new table will be awesome.Just leave that guy a horrible review and that should screw him out of some business.or go find him and beat the money out of him.

I do a lot of research before I make a major purchase. Then, I buy the best I can afford. This works out well most of the time.

When I bought this house, it came with a pool table in the loft. I gave it away.

Sorry to hear. It seems that you were snookered.
He got stuck behind the 8 ball.

Seriously, you could have possibly gotten what you wanted on Craigslist. Or go to various sport specialist stores. Or you could have kept the one you had, and use it as a practice table, and go to the pool hall and use the goods when you are trying to either show off or hustle.

It 's really a cheap lesson in getting screwed.

Some people get screwed for hundreds of thousands of $$.

Just learn from your boo-boo.  Don't make the same mistake twice.

Story can't be true as all getbiggers have top of the line Brunswick or Olhausen tables in their dens.

Its a good skill set and exercise. There are also pool leagues as well. Plus, get good enough, one could hustle money from a person like you who asked that question.

I bought an extra large sweatshirt on ebay from china.  When it arrives and I open it, I find out it is the size of a small child!  Cost me 20 dollars.

So I went back and bought a XXXL from another seller for 20 dollars and I love it!

My mistake, cost me 20 dollars, but that's how I roll.

because the table was made in china is not the problem. it's because it was a $1600 table, obviously a $5500 table should rightly be vastly superior.

the chinese actually make the finest snooker (the grown up version of pool) tables in the world. they now use them for all the professional circuit tournaments. i  bought a 2nd hand 2/3 size(8ftx4ft) riley snooker table off ebay a few years ago ,for around £1500 including transportation and installation, in an attempt to get my son into  playing as i spent many hours as a youngster playing snooker and pool. it's a great table for the money i spent. could probably do with a recloth now. we don't really play as much i'd like but we go through phases where we'll play everyday for a couple weeks and then not at all for a couple months.
