"An astronomer picked up a mysterious pulse of light coming from the direction of the newly discovered Earth-like planet"
"'We found this very sharp signal, sort of a laser lookalike thing which is the sort of thing we’re looking for - a very sharp spike. And that is what we found"

One thing from that article...is it really a good idea to send signals to communicate with other intelligent species (if they exist there)?

It has been determined that it is probably not a good idea, and NOT worth the risks.

Lol, exactly, who knows what kind of fucked up beliefs they have too.

play with the bull and....
this is messed up.
well 2 things can happen
1: They visit us and help us evolve
2.... THEY FUCKING eat us all alive and take over.
I dont like the 50/50

Well think about it. If they are advanced enough to be able to travel to us, there is a good chance they knew about us whether or not we are sending signals.
-
We always assume they are far advanced to us, what if we show up on their planet and they all live in cardboard boxes and play with their own feces......you know kinda like certain parts of NYC. ;D
-
20 light years away.
200 years to retrieve the information back.
Not worth it.

So that leaves two options:
- Either they are here already, and are therefore evil as they have not announced their presence.
- Or they are friendly and not here, but waiting our communication before they arrive, hence the signals

??? why would you send information with a conventional rocket?
-
Maybe they're really primitive, so when we get there we can enslave them? ???
