That's not possible, unless your choice of investments is very very poor. Had the bulk of your 401K investments been in a low cost, S&P 500 Index Fund and the rest in a combination of low cost, small/mid cap, international, and bond Index Funds you'd be making a killing right now.
I know many 401K plans out there give you very few to no choice of Index Funds, because they benefit the participant and not the fund manager and not the 401K provider. However, most if not all plans do include at least one S&P 500 Index Fund.
In that case, I'd dump my entire 401K into that single Index Fund, long term(seven to thirty years). Not ideal, but much better than giving away your money in the form of high fees to Actively Managed Fund managers, which perform poorly long term too compared to Index Funds.
