Yip got a bank loan in 1994 as a 20yr old and took 14 long damn years to pay it all back and that was (for the most part $400 extra a month i choose to put extra on the loan) anyway done now long haul and 3 jobs later.

Me and my fiancée own our house outright, but it must be said that her father bought it for us. We made an offer and when we went in to sign papers, he walked in and dropped a cheque on the table. If we had to pay it would've been the normal 20 year mortgage. We're now paying off a holiday home.

QB, in the USA one does not own a single apartment but rather a condo, town home(split level) or a house.

Remember you once told me that in Oz an apartment = condo (correct?)

I'm no expert but I would imagine it takes many years until one even starts paying off the principle.

I would prefer to rent now as I want to live several more places before I find the area I like the most.

If you were to pay the minimum monthly amount it would take literally a decade before u start eating away at the priniciple, hence why i always add $3000-$4000 extra per month to save on interest and not be a slave to the bank forever.
