Get you some titanium toed red wings
-
Nothing personal, just bidness. Johnny. I need you to buy another pair in a year. I couldn't do that if I made them a better quality could I? Just relax and give me your money.
-
If you're talking boots - very few good work boots being made anymore- Red Wings are junk now, Herman Survivor out of business, Chippewa are still decent, Wolverine , Georgia and Danner are up and down .. made in China too- a lot of their stuff anyway
For boots buy White's, Nicks, Wesco, Hoffman, Drew's or Viberg- all are EXPENSIVE but you can rebuild them and get literally decades out of them if you take care of them -all very similar in style and construction - all made in USA - Viberg is Canadian, nothing wrong with Canada
You're looking at mid $400's for a pair- on Ebay 1 /2 that price or less, like new condition
:)

i had sketcher work shoes with very coushiny thick soles but they peel off in 6 months they only costed 35
its that dam cheap glue they use these days
-
Best work boots I've found so far are New Balance. Sadly they don't make them anymore. :'(
Bates = 1 to 1.5 years before the soles tear off.
Red Wings = 2 years
I'm about to hit 3 years on my New Balance. The treads are almost completely worn off, but the soles are still intact. The leather is very faded, but still intact. Best of all, they are still as comfortable as the day I bought them.

Wesco Boots will last a lifetime and you can send them back at any time for reconditioning.
There is no better shoe for durability.
-
Cheap glue on $35 sketchers?
Who would have thought........
Cheap materials = low quality = cheap retail price = confused falcon
Or 400+ pounds of pressure × 10 hours a day (in $35 shoes) = short life span

I just checked out their website, and can't find work boots. Do they have a line of work boots? I'm always looking for a good work boot, something that will last longer than 1.5 - 2.0 years.

Everything is double, triple and quadruple goodyear welted. No fucking glue.

Voltfoe for Linemans and for anyone really.
Jobmaster for any task-All around will last a decade easily, maybe longer
Highliner for tree climbers, tree work
Timber for heavy forest work
Firestormer for firefighters, steel work or any place its melting
-
I know a few people who are still wearing Wescos they bought in the 50s and 60s after years of heavy steel work. They really will last forever.
-
Wesco Boots are meant for working. If you are just pincing around find something else. Wesco is the best you can buy and meant for loggers, lineman, heavy work construction etc....
I'd hate for someone to not put a pair of Wesco Boots to use when that is strictly what they are made for.

Ironic that you know this given that you don't work

Does Wesco make any boots without the high heal? Searching through their website, they all appear to have a 2 to 3 inch heal.
-
Wesco does make boots with a standard heel, also check out White's boots, and Nick's also - every bit as good as Wesco- maybe better, White's and Nick's have a patented special arch to their construction , if right for you, they feel like sneakers after being broken in
I have Wesco Firestormers and Jobmasters, I also have White's and Nicks, I prefer the Nick's myself, a little better built I believe, the boots mentioned are all stitch down construction- generally considered a step above welted construction- plus the soles are glued, screwed, and stitched on- they CAN'T come off
A little less $ check out Hoffmans boots -great boot for roughly 1/2 the price- completely hand made in America .... you won't be disappointed with them, gotta be the best boot value for the $ out there
I have been doing quarry work and logging for 30 years.... have worn pretty much every boot there is :)
Just my 2 cents on work boots

If they are a lifetime wear then where is the pair you bought years ago that didn't fall apart?

Likely his cankles got ower fat to fit in them
-
Most likely it's the more expensive boots which will be better - as long as the stuff ain't manufactured in China you should be good to "go", in theory.

they were a pair of aisics tennis shoes the tread is gone so theyre slippery but soles are intact

Thanks for all the info. I'm on Hoffman's website right now, and I like the prices. Definitely looks like a good boot. I also found a boot for Shizzo in their closeout section:

Didn't knew hemorrhoids could pull off from wearing work shoes.

Good point.

Been considering Wescos/Nicks/Whites but haven't owned them so can't comment.
Currently wear Rocky S2V. Ups: Very comfy, very light. Downs: Not a durable sole. Simply too soft for building site slabs and wears away fast. It's Vibram, and they had to choose between grip vs durability but I'd prefer more durability. I can't get quite 2 warm seasons from a pair, so about 12 months life expectancy, which is questionable economy given their price. Damn, damn comfortable tho.
Can't recommend S2V insulated winter boots with goretex. Yes, very comfy again but insulation is insufficient for temps even above freezing imo. Waterproof when they arrived but no longer. I don't believe in goretex anymore after a lifetime of seeing the shit not perform. It's just too delicate to last.
Socks: I'm sold on merino wool. Haven't had a touch of tinnea since switching over. Never ever going back to cotton socks.
