Part of the reason he is doing that is because he has probably had people calling him a freak and a monster for years just like those idiots are. You can tell that guy loves it. Leonard seems to have beaten the odds and survived well into stage 7 Palumboism, making him something of an anomaly... Are there any other documented cases of such an advanced case of the disease?

There is no known link between Palumboism and depression. Folks who suffer from it actually seem quite happy and content.
