I read your epic thread vs SMM and it made for hilarious reading, definitely an all time getbig classic. Just one question please;
What would you have done if he had actually turned up for that fight? Did you have a strategy in mind?
We would have been allotted an hour of ring time at the academy with a referee as needed (The reason for this is because a basic street fight would land two individuals in jail, but a fight within an MMA academy is simply considered sparring).
We would have signed waivers describing how far we would go and when the fight would end.
In terms of fight strategy, it would have been very straight forward. I'd feel him out in terms of his ability to actually deliver strikes while standing, pace myself to see what his speed is like and control the distance. I have good experience in boxing for over 20-30 years (experience as in training from the time I was a teenager, but nothing professional or even semi-pro - just an avid fan and man who enjoys sparring). If he appeared to have more skill in terms of striking or if he was well versed in Muay Thai (While I can check kicks, I am not good at delivering kicks), I would have simply taken it to the ground as soon as possible. On the ground, I am very well versed and have trained for over a decade now at Renzos with everything from professional MMA fighters, collegiate wrestlers and to even that of Brazilian Jiujitsu masters. An ideal ending for me would be by way of submission. I don't find the thought of breaking someone's face or even snapping one of their bones appealing.
Again, I didn't have any hate for the guy. I don't hate anyone. I would have approached the entire thing like that of a very intense sparring session, that's all.
When healthy, I spar every single week (once or twice) and so going at it with a random person wouldn't be too much of a change.
Worse case scenario, I lose and manage to pick out a few areas where I could have improved and then offer to shake the guy's hand and take him out for a drink to make amends. Best case scenario, I win and then offer to shake the guy's hand and take him out for a drink to make amends.
