There have only been a handful:
Arnold (Made it from Hollywood, not bodybuilding)
Labrada (Supplements)
Gaspari (Supplements)
Dugdale (His personal company)
Remember, you can make up to a million, but after taxes you will soon notice that the guys who made 1 million dollars, walk away with a mere $6-700,000.
If you consider the sum of all their assets combined (Homes, Cars, savings) then yes you might be able to add Jay Cutler and possibly Ronnie Coleman to the list of guys that have earned 1 million dollars.
That's it.

It says "rich pro bodybuilders"; it doesn't say that their riches had to come exclusively or primarily from bodybuilding (Don't forget "Big Louie").
Steve Reeves, Reg Park, and Serge Nubret all made their money primarily from movies, as well.
Stan Efferding also owns his own business; so you might be able to include him.
Troy Zuccolotto took his money he made from the WBF and opened a wellness clinic in California. I think he'd qualify as a millionaire, too.

I wonder whether the time frame in which they (Reeves, Park & Nubret) made their money allowed for them to be categorized as millionaires. No Hollywood actor was being paid anywhere near a million to make a movie back in those days, at least not that I know of. Taking inflation into account, I guess it could be possible that there 6-figure wealth might translate into a millionaire status today.
Never heard of Stan Efferding, aside from the fact that he is a powerlifter.
Don't know enough about Zuccolotto to comment.

Both Cutler and Coleman have made more than a million from PRIZE MONEY alone. You're WAAAAAAY off.
-

Really?
Can you show me some figures and adjust them for taxes deducted and expenses (costs of living, steroids, insurance) incurred?
What's the highest a Mr. Olympia winner walks away with? This year it was $200,000, but prior years it was much less.
After taxes, that amount dwindles down to about $140-150,000 (That's for the $200K figure, the prior years were much less after taxes).
Ronnie won 8 straight Mr. Olympias, now assuming he didn't spend a cent of his earnings after taxes ($150,000 at best), that would then leave him with roughly about $1,200,000 (Since prior Mr. Olympia wins weren't as high as this past year, that means he probably was more likely around $900,000-$1,200,000).
Considering the fact that he spent some of that money to purchase a home (say about $3-400,000) and about 3-4 cars (say $25-35,000 a piece totalling $100,000) that would then bring his actual take home income to about $4-500,000.
That's not a millionaire.
Yes, I am not taking their supplement contracts into account, but those are completely over-estimated with figures that are completely false.
"1"
-
are u stupid?
he won at least 20 other smaller shows including the arnold classic with a 100,000 dollar prize + a hummer
his BSN contact alone was hundrets of thousands of dollars
im pretty sure that he could easiely live from his guest apperances and sponsoring without even touching the prize money income

Deductions, my friend. Bodybuilders are self employed and can make use of many deductions vs. taxes. But, just from AC and Olympias alone, Cutler has what, 4 1sts and 6 seconds at the O which grossed him near 750k and 5 wins for each which grossed him well over 1M. Then you have Muscletech's "Match the prize" which Jay and Heath both have which doubled their prize winnings. THEN you factor in Jay has/had over 20 sponsors at one time. THEENNNNN you factor in guest appearances.
He's been at it for 18 years. You don't think the man could have earned 10M+ in that time and invested decently?
-

I don't think so.
But then again, what do I know, I'm just an overpaid accountant who has done taxes for well over 5 top-tier IFBB pros in the New York City area.

You are way off..................... ........................ ..... ::) only 1M for ronnie and Jay??
Do you guys have any proof to base your assumptions from? I am going off of things that I have seen in person. I can be wrong though, I have never dealt with Ronnie Or Jay directly, but judging off of what local guys in New York have made (Martinez, Miller, Kamali), those figures sound way off to me.
You guys aren't buying into the idea that professional bodybuilders are truly millionaires are you?

Yup.
Amazes me. Both Ron and Jason made serious money. Especially Jason.
And what was that shit about 35k cars??? If you get Bentley, Escalade, Cayenne, S600 AMG, S55 etc. for 35k I have to seriously reconsider my view of United Socialist America... ::)
Someone like Jay wouldn't spend hundreds of thousands on cars if he had just made 1 million. There must be way more!

You guys might all be right, I am not saying that it's impossible, just not probable based off of what I have seen other IFBB pros earn.
Maybe the top 1-2 guys make that kind of money, I am very doubtful of that, but who knows.

Bodybuilding is one of the shadiest "sports" when it comes to Money and who gets what.
In Baseball, football, soccer, Basketball, even car racing, you know what the athlete signed for in his contract, you know how much they make per yr...hell, you hear it on ESPN or the local news what some rookie signs for...not bbing...that info is "top secret" ::)
No one really knows whose making what, how much this or that is...
Or who is getting their take, odd isn't it?
I bet if their were more guidelines and requirments for bbing---ie disclosures on who is making what, what the supp companies get vs their bbers, then we would finally see improvements in bbing contracts and prize money.

Yea, I'm not saying many of them make serious money (millions that is)
It's obvious Jay especially has some business talent that probably has helped him a lot in cashing it out.
Guy has multiple sponsors, travelling around the world constantly, pretty much only pro pushing himself in mainstream media (well, as much as that's possible for bb), etc.
He has also built huge (again, for bb) fanbase.

I know my good friend Bob Chick is also probably well off due to some great deals he has made over the years with BB.COM, a few supplement companies and the IFBB.

Millionaires don't buy/lease fleets of 50K to 250k cars/trucks(like guys like Jay and Ronnie do) and live in a home that isn't close to a million dollars+. It doesn't work that way. Psychologically its impossible. The fact is if they aren't living in million to multi million dollar homes/condo's, then they aren't millionaires and there just playing the role. And even if they did live in million dollar homes, they could still be playing a role. Many do. The homes they live in tell a pretty good story of the amount of money they have. Parking a ferrari in the garage of 400,000 to 600,000 dollar home is pretty retarded. Yet these so called "millionaires" are doing just that.

I've presented you with contest earnings from top two shows only that amount to nearly 2M in earnings. Did I see the checks deposited? No, but I know Jay got 1st or 2nd in every show he entered for 12 years and won the prize money.
Prize money is small peanuts compared to endorsement and guest posings. Now, I'm not saying that the top 10 guys are rich, I'm saying the top 3-4 guys of the last decade (Ronnie, Jay, Dex and maybe Kai) have made plenty of money.
I'd assume Ronnie has a few million, Jay as well and Dex has a few million in shiny rims and Kai has a few million vials of gh in his meat locker.
-
Ronnie
Jay
Lebrada
Arnold
Gaspari
Dennis Wolf
Branch Warren
Nasser
Phil Heath
Dorian Yates
Dexter Jackson
Marcus Ruhl
I'm sure there are more, but the above is who I can confidently say has a Net Worth of over a million dollars. It may not necessarily come directly from bodybuilding, but between endorsements and various form of income, again, these guys have a networth above 1M.

I concede that he had to have the finances in place to pay such a number for that house. But holy shit did he buy at the worst time possible. That house is now assessed at around $700,000 and the homes right around him are going for around 500,000. Wouldn't be surprised if he just walks away from that home. Thats almost a million dollar loss that he'll never recoup. I heard he bought other homes/investments around the same time. DAMN he must have gotten crushed.

Yes, that Must hurt. Might be one of the reasons Jay seems to continue his bb-career.
But maybe Jay is patriotic; always believing America will outcome the troubles and housing market will boom again in next 10 years...
(I have my views about the subject but that's a story for another thread)
I've heard and read countless stories about how many lost fortunes because of crash on housing markets. It was such a bubble in America for ages... many thought they would get rich just by buying a house with huge leverage and then wait a year or two and sell it for double the purchasing price :-\

Ya what happened with the housing bubble was fucking criminal. Many hard working Americans had to go bankrupt even though they still made large amounts of money.

I wonder how Shawn ray is doing financially? He only competed in the olympia and didn't do many other shows if any later on his career
-
Interesting posts 1.
I would have assumed that guys like Jay and Ronnie would have 5-15 million before reading this thread. Clearly these guys have made a lot more than a million dollars in their lifetime, but perhaps they haven't been able to keep a hold of it? I guess I assume too much based on my own experiences. My dad was able to accumulate at least 1-2 million dollars just on an average tech-industry salary (100k or so per year at the time of his retirement) and some smart investment choices (building his own house for 75k, which is now worth almost a million)... most of my friends' parents / families have similar stories and backgrounds, and they're all just "average people" to me... to think that these superstars of the bodybuilding world wouldn't even be able to make as much as the people I'm around on a daily basis is mind-boggling.

Cephis,
Rest assured in the fact that I could be dead wrong in my assumptions. I know of mainly a handful of IFBB pros and their finances (Namely Victor Martinez and a few others in NYC).
Truth be told, maybe Ronnie and Jay managed to accumulate that kind of wealth, but I highly doubt it.
MindSpin, who is extremely well-versed in ALL matters of this industry said it best..
If there are any, they did not make their millions from bodybuilding. Hope that helps.
In my experience, the ones who had the MOST money did so from activities that were clearly unrelated to bodybuilding.
