I'm a big Charles Bukowski fan and have been recently reading John Fante who was his mentor.  I also like some of Clive Barker's earlier work and most of Louis-Ferdinand Céline and Dostoyofsky.   I'm a closet Dean R Koontz and S. King reader too...but who isn't?

Indeed. Just read it not long ago. I must say, the part where he kills the young boy is particularly disturbing. I almost stopped reading at that point out of pure disgust, which I'm sure was the author's intent.

Agreed its a sickening and perverted book, but it is compelling reading regardless. The level of detail that the book is written is amazing. Book much better than the movie
Title: Re: what books do you read?
Post by: tony b on October 31, 2008, 08:53:27 PM
You are not wrong! It would be impossible to translate that detail from the book onto film, although the movie did a pretty good job.

Bateman has an overwhelming desire to fit in. Anything that is popular he attaches to. He is obsessive in his his actions and thought processes. I can only presume the author would have done it to really hit it home to the reader his mentally disturbed ways.

I read lots! One book in particular - I must have read  at least eight times. Not because it was such a great story but it takes that much reading on my part just to get a start on understanding it cause I ain't no genius when it comes to the smarts department.

The book is "Dancing Wu Li Masters" and it is supposed to be all about the basics of Quantum Mechanics.

I suggest that guys like Adonis and JonnyFalcon or anyone else with half a brain who may be interested in this sort of thing pick it up and give it a read. Once you get past the first 40 pages or so, it becomes one of the most fascinating reads imaginable.

I can almost guarantee that you'll be reading it more than once.

Currently reading "Not a Good Day to Die". It's about Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan. It's pretty disheartening to see all the screw ups of generals and pentagon. Soldiers on the ground are good to go, though.

i'm reading a great black comedy called 'the koran'.

its about this paedo, who after being beaten up by his wife, takes a huff, and decides to live with a goat on a mountain. one day he thinks up a greart idea to pretend he is gods messenger, and the locals are so dumb they believe him.

one way he gets them on side it to tell them god wants them to beat their women, and treat them like meat. They can also have 4 wives and rape any woman they like.

one day he fvcks a 9 year old, and steals his sons wife, along with wage wars, and a few other things.

great work of fiction.

yes i truly believe that anyone who tries to fight against the negative energy in the world is fighting a losing battle...We all need the negative with the positive...The key is understanding what is the negative and bringing it in and filtering it out as quick as possible...Its only when you start to fck with it, it will end up pwning you...
