"What did we learn today from UFC ppv?"
« on: July 09, 2006, 05:52:27 AM »
1.  How utterly easy it is to waste $40.
2.  Scalp cuts spew fountains of blood.  Rich, red oxygenated blood.
3.  Post motor-cycle accident ex-heavyweights/submission specialists w/ serious spare tires can can recieve gifts from UFC judges.....and be near submitted themselves to boot......ps....unanimous decision?
4.  Fuck Ambien. Watch a UFC heavyweight match if you can't sleep.
5.  Five unanswered laser elbows to the temple rendering one 'intelligently unable to defend oneself' does not equal early stoppage.  Do we really want to see death?
6.  Hercules-style beards stengthen your chin.

this is a start............I know I learned much more

LOL. Good post.

I still disagree with number 5. The Shamrock fight was stopped way too early.

I agree. It was stopped too early. But, this is an easy way to say "#3 here we come!"

Frank Mir is done in the UFC...Sylvia or Arlovski will kill him.

Jeez............didn't you wince and pray that Ken wasn't murdered right there and then milliseconds before the fight was stopped?  In slow mo Ken's body slumped/limped noticeably after the first elbow.  I am not kidding here, I believe Shamrock was one elbow away from a life altering injury; forget career ending.

I think that motorcycle accident really had a HUGE impact on Frank and how confident he is in he ring. He used to be a very good fighter and was in great shape, even once doing a spread for Muscle and fitness magazine. After the accident on his motorcycle which left him with a broken foot or leg but was a very bad injury, he seemed to not be the same and as you saw last night, Frank Mir was out of shape, with a gut hanging out and his skills look terrible.

7.  The best way to promote your next heavyweight championship fight is by not televising the challenger's fight on the PPV card.

I wasn't impressed with the fights either.  The Mir fight looked like 15 minutes in slow-mo, for both fighters.  Tito would have murdered Shamrock if the ref hadn't stepped in.  AA is way overrated, and that fight was boring, 25 minutes of neither guys having enough balls to try for a knockout or submission.  Yves career looks dim with the UFC, so does Mir's, he's fat, slow, and not the same fighter that he was.

Shamrock damn near got killed, 6 or 7 solid unanswered elbows, had to stop it, Mir is done, didn't even want to be there, Arlovski beat a bunch of nobodies, now some talent and was afraid to get hit, Sylvia will get beat by Munson if can get him to the ground, the heavyweight title should have been declared vacant after that bull crap fight

ken wasnt close to being hurt. he reacted immediately afterwards and got to his feet. but he's got nothing on tito so it would've just been a matter of time anyway. he has no takedown defense and he's not very confident on his back apparantely either.

arlowski did some light jabbing and sparring for 5 rounds. i've seen tougher fights in training. that was bullshit. and where's his strategy?

mir is out. he got a gift and unless he does something about his condition his days in the ufc are over.

disappointing show. looked very good initially. wanderlei is good news though.

If you watch the fight, Ken was definitely hurt, he jumped up like half the guys that get knkocked out and don't realize it, he took 6 or 7 undefended elbows, what more did you want, but it is true, was just a matter of time before Tito killed him

I honestly believe the Shamrock/Ortiz stoppage was a good call, but I do wish Big John had reffed it.  I guarantee that he would have let it go a little longer so no one (esp. Ken)would bitch about it.

Did anyone besides me notice that Arlovski weighed in 12 lbs lighter?  Looked like all 12 lbs was muscle.

Finally, the Axe Murderer is here.  I'm always surprised how so many guys who are casual fans have no idea who Silva is or about Pride.  This was the most exciting thing all night to me.  I watched the fight at a Hooters, and no one else knew who he was.  People who only remember him as a UFC KO's highlight (loss against Belfort) are in for a big f'n surprise ;D

Ken got the shit beat out of him last time, and it didn't stop him from running his mouth.  This would have been no different.  I think Herb made the correct call. The fighter's safety is more important than their pride.

This card was embarassing for the UFC.  I am glad I didn't waste any money on it.
