in a nutshell,best he ever looked allround conditioning,had great legs deep seperation never seen before this yr,,yates looked very good bad mullett had good size,good back,but looked nowhere near to the champ all around,,haney retires 8 time champ,,yates come back next yr literally morphed.rest is history.

I know what you mean. He was around so long, that we all just took him for granted, but he really never peaked like '91. I think he had another gear left and we never saw his full potential.

I remember watching this on ESPN when I was a teenager. They used to play it every year I think. I doubt we will ever see that again.

yates looked great but relaxed is where haney took him 91,haney chest,traps,back hung relaxed,and conditioned on par if a touch better than yates,,but yates over next season filled in those gaps quickly esp chest area,back already good went to wow..haney would have been second i believe no way leverone would have touched haney yet that yr 92,,,

Imagine the training sessions these guys would have put themselves through knowing that they would be facing each other on stage?

Maths is an easy study if you got a wiskundeknobbel. So you can spent lotsa time in the gym. Good years to come for you !!! But the old fart I am I still wanna tell you to ease up on the gear, it'll pay off in the end...

Dorian had the best front lat spread of all time, nobodys lats looked wider or thicker than his in that pose, its as if he could just spread that thing out forever and it just kept expanding.

A few thoughts.
Haney won because of his lat-width to tiny waist ratio.
Yates looked ridiculous. Thick.
Mike Quinn went berserk when I didn't escort him to a seat to his liking...so he climbed over two rows, then sat down. DEF on some kind of substance.

I remember in an interview him saying he went for rotator cuff surgery (I think sometime after this contest). Rotator issues will effect ones ability to connect and flex your lat. So it may have been that.

That was my first "O" . missed 92, been to everyone since then .

The physiques back then had a density to them. The physiques now are huge but they look so soft. It just looks inflated. Look at how hard Yates looked.

Todays guys have nowhere near as many striations if any.

not one competitor looking like a bloated mess. The standing relaxed shot of all the guys lined up is very impressive, all have a good waist to shoulder ratio.
Haney and Yates backs both look similar in the rls and are way ahead of the others.

My recollection is just the opposite... Sonny was great, but he could rarely get his condition fully dialed in.

Yes, Ronnie looked the best ever that year but overall Lee is the best ever...Ronnie looked awesome in 98, 99, and was just godly in 03. Lee looked awesome every year (except the drug test year) and he went out looking his best.

Feel sad for Sonny Schmidt. Guy placed lower at each suceeding Olympia. Eventually had to move back to Aussie land or Samoa when Weider cut his contract. The guy was a full time bodybuilder, training like 8hrs a day or some crazy shit like that. Then finally he wins the masters Olympia only to have Vince Taylor mess him up the year after.

I'd rather look like a 5'11 Haney with smaller arms and perfect everything else in 91 vs. 5'10 Ronnie with weird abs and shitty calves.
At around the same weight. Both around the same weight Haney's 91 and Ronnie's 98.

Yeah, thats his best look IMHO, gyno is BAD and distracting as hell though.
Ronnie is the freak of all freaks, but his structure, abs, and balance issues (calves) bother me.
Thats why Im a bigger fan of Doz, but no one had more muscle on his frame than the Ronster.

Yeah, I think Haney did exactly the right thing, retired on top instead of letting all his fans watch his slow fall from grace. He saw Doz was willing to go places he probably wasnt, and retired rather than played someone elses game.

This is the best shot I could get before the camera man moved away. I hate when they move the camera to different angles when they are about to hit the pose.
