that's what weak people say.

I don't bench anymore as it's a stupid lift but occasionally I get retarded and do foolish things with dips or dbs.

I'm no ESF when it comes to benching, obviously, but do tell me more about what weak people say?  :-*

not trying to be a dick but a dip doesn't really mean anything because its so hard to judge. a dumbbell shoulder press, or a dumbbell bench press would suffice.

LOL. Go watch how girls do on the dip bars during any police training course. They'll be lucky to pull off 2 full body dips. No upper body strength at all.

yes, dipping 500lbs total is practically the equivalent of a 90lb hammer strength decline.

but if you insist

obviously im a pissant bencher compared to mike wolfe etc

I benched 135 for a few reps and 225 for 4 or 5 yesterday. Fast enough, so even now I could probably hit 315 for a single. I can still move my shoulder today, so perhaps I can get back into benching a bit. Sucks not being able to do any form of pressing for 6 months.  ::)

Stopped Barbell Flat Benching and Incline benching a long time ago. Will only use Smith machine rarely go over 225. Still love Incline dumbbell flyes and cable crossovers. Flex used to make an Incline Bench machine that had a bench that was on a 30 degree angle that was awesome. Worked upper chest without burning your shoulders out before your chest.

About drugs and bodybuilding contest prep, sure. But I am quite confident my knowledge of weight training, in all its permutations, is greater than that of these two.

It's not a stretch considering I was interviewing Ronnie (and ghostwriting his articles) years before his O wins ... and educating him on the names of some of the machines/exercises he employs. He didn't know a heck of a lot for a guy as developed as he was, and became.

Sorry to ruin your Coleman-crush, brah.

Fortress is gigantic for those who don't know.

lol @ "I bench 315x10 but needed a spot on the last four "reps"" :D

Maybe I am misunderstanding but if the best you can do with 225 is "4 or 5" (can't remember ???) there's no way you are getting 315.

That's just what I did last Friday after not pressing any exercise for months. I stopped at 4 or 5 because of a tweak in my injured shoulder, but could have easily done more. No idea how many more though. Could have had 10 total in me, could have been 14-15. And speaking from experience that would put me at or over 315 again -- I suck at high reps. But I'm not going to live dangerously. Just a slow buildup of 10 Lbs per session, and see where it takes me. World record by September. ;D

FYI: years ago I benched 315x1 the first day after coming back from a 5-year layoff, so I'm not bragging but lamenting! >:(

315 is far from pathetic. Even a +600lb bencher like Mike Wolfe has stated this previously in this thread:

But for who ever said a 315 was not a big bench you are freaking CRAZY!!! I would be willing to bet less then 10% of people that lift weights and go to the gym on a consistent basis can do a legit 315 bench press. I own and operate my own gym and other then my power lifters there are only a handful of guys who can bench 3 plates a side. 315 is a good solid bench, 405 is a great bench and 500 plus raw is GOD LIKE to most people!!!! Just saying!!!

You said you benched 315 after a 5 year layoff!? That is pretty darn impressive. Do you mean that you didn't just train bench for those 5 years or that you didn't train at all?

Didn't train at all. But in all fairness it was just a 1x bodyweight bench at the time. :-X

I know a dude who benched 200kg first time in the gym after years of not working out. Freaks do exist.

Seriously, How many guys on GB can bench 315 clean ? Might be surprising how few can do it when compared to the amount of traffic on GB- I don't know myself- but it would show 315 is a decent bench anywhere

I did it about 12 years ago at about 186lbs.   I think it would flatten me now.

As has been mentioned several times in this thread by several different posters, 315 is in general a very strong bench for an "unassisted" lifter using good form and no spot.
