Choosing the right photographer?

Melissa Austin Gives Out Pointers, from an email.... what do you think?

Do you have a competition coming up? Are you in the best shape of your life? Would you like to get into modeling? Whatever the reason may be, you’ve decided to do a photo shoot. You’ve had no prior experience and are not sure where to turn. So here’s where hiring a professional photographer comes in.

Finding the right photographer can be challenging, but it’s the most important part! There are many “GWC’s” out there who can be perverts or will be a waste of your time. GWC stands for “guy with camera.” These guys may approach you on the street asking to do a shoot and if so, more than likely they aren’t very reputable. If you are interested in doing modeling, bad pictures from a sleazy photographer leaked onto the web can ruin your career before it even begins. So, the first step is to do some research. I’ve found that word of mouth or referrals from people you trust are a great place to start.

Once you’ve compiled a list of photographers, you will need to interview them. Getting to know them as people and as photographers are very important. You want to make sure that you feel comfortable around them and that they can provide the style of shoot that you are looking to do. Questions that you may want to ask the photographer include: What do they charge? What is their specialty? Do they have a portfolio that you can see? Do they edit photos or use Photoshop on their pictures?

Photo shoots can be expensive when dealing with a professional, so make sure to take your time to research, interview, negotiate the right agreement, and come to a final decision. Choose the photographer that fits your needs the best and most importantly, the one that you’re comfortable to be around and can have fun with!
