An American Hero. Beat both Yates and Arnold in the same show!
-
Owns Yates in everyway.

??? ??? ???
Beat Arnold? He never competed against Arnold....Arnold retired years before Haney won his first Olympia. WTF you talking about?
-
Owns Yates in everyway.
agreed. yates was a huge step backwards in the mr.olympia progression

I wouldn't go so far as to say that? Haney wouldn't have beaten Dorian twice. Haney had a great, great run with the O! True Champion!
Damn, Haney looks freaking rediculous there :o
-
:)
-
I prefer Haney.
-
Haney 84-88 was his best, 84-85 his best within those years.
Wrong. His last contest against Yates was his best.
If he fought against Yate with his 88form, Yates would beat him mercilessly.
-

84 wasn't his best it was among his lightest , 86 and 91 are usually considered his best with 85 following close behind , either way he was a great champion
I've always said if Haney could maintain his 91 and he faced the package Yates brought in 92 he would beat Yates again , by 1993 Yates would have left Haney for dead.
-
Yates beat Haney in the muscularity round at his debut O.
-
Beat his record.
Gotcha.
-

right and he was 10 pounds lighter 239 V 249
-
the best Haney looked was 91 IMO, his arms and legs were vastly improved over what they had been but Dorian post 93 would have destroyed ANY version of Haney.
-
Haney looked incredible in the flesh compared to pics when posing. He deserved everything he earned
-
:D
-
Best shoulder to waist ratio of all time.

No. Buchanan had the best
-

-
No. Buchanan had the best
Never heard of him

i agree haney looked his best in 1991.
-
Never heard of him
dude with tiny waist. very good bodybuilder.

I don't have a very in depth knowledge of the 'sport'. Just Mr Olympias and the Pumping Iron crowd. Plus, after Haney, it took a bad, bad turn imo.
-
lee haney was so superior at his era that all his peers at the time had to play catch up,same as yates and coleman ,follow the leader..

there where a few guys back in the 80s who could have competed with haney , but they werent allowed to compete in the IFBB (or didnt want to for various reasons or got tired of all the 'politics'). not saying they would have beat him, but they where certainly better than gaspari.

Homeboy had to for that record-breaking 8 Olympia.
-
Those are damn good shots of Lee. 8)

indeed. a last surge of motivation.
-
Lee Haney the man !!!!

I think Haney and Yates knew when their time was up and quit on a high note. I reckon Yates would've smashed him if they competed again at the O. Just like if Yates didn't retire because Ronnie would've smoked him.
Too bad Ronnie doesn't see the writing on the wall. :-\

yates didnt retire because he was afraid of ronnie. yates retired because he was riddle with injuries.

And those injuries would've caused him to lose to Ronnie. That's what I'm saying.

ronnie should have retired years ago
dorian should have retired when he fucked his biceps back in 94.
-
If I could have the physique of any Mr. Olympia, I would choose Lee Haney's.
-
you need to include this pic from 91
-
.

When it comes to the '80's, excluding competitors from the 70's who continued to compete, I like 1) Gary Strydom, 2) Lee Haney, 3) Bob Paris, 4) Chris Dickerson (though he may have competed in the '70's), and 5) Samir Bannout. Including guys from the '70's, I go Zane, Padilla, Strydom, Haney, then Paris, with an honorable mentions to Robinson, Mentzer (1980 only, unfortunately) and Platz. (I don't include Columbu becuase he was far superior in the '70's imo, as was Arnold, who like Mentzer also never competed again after 1980.)
yep dickerson competed in the 70's he was 42 i think when he won the O

I foresee Ronnie continuing on a downward spiral, onstage, chasing fleeting glory.
It will not end well for him

haney is the least talked about mr olympia second only to chris dickerson

Here is what I think the heierarchy/ popularity of all Mr. O's Rank:
1. Arnold
2. Oliva
3. Coleman
4. Haney
5. Zane
6. Yates
7. Bannout
8.Cutler
9.Scott
10. Dickerson
11. Columbu

but the no of olympia wins makes haney a special case + it wasnt that long ago
considering that he makes it at the end of the list
one has to wonder why
-
Arnold
Ronnie
Dorian
Haney
etc etc
dead last: Franco Columbo
He didnt have the physique to be the Mr Olympia
-

Yes...Franco gifted heavily
-
i wasnt speaking of haney performance wise rather that he rarely gets talked about on the boards etc
which is odd considering it wasnt that long ago he was a champ and he won a shitload of sandows
-
:o
-
;)
-
Haney's chest = ridiculous :o
-
Coleman= ungodly combo of size and conditioning
Haney= second only to Coleman. He beats Yates because of his great shape
Sergio= The Myth. nuff said
Arnold = Greatest impact and most influential bodybuilder but NOT the Greatest Olympian
Yates= ushered in a new era of conditioning for big Men
Worse: Zane(pick any year), Franco's Second title and Arnold's last title
-
Dickerson was deserving winner of many shows, but 83 Mr O, must've been the result of "private pre-judging" in the judges' hotel rooms...
-
I've never listed solely Mr. O's, I'm sure my list will differ from others given my taste for more asthetic physiques, but here goes...
Citing my favorite version(s) of each, I say:
1-Zane (any year he won)
2-Arnold (1974-1975)
3-Franco (1976) ('81 was a gift, but I otherwise don't get all the Franco hate; guy was mostly amazing throughout his career...)
4-Dickerson (1982)
5-Bannout (1983)
6-Haney (1984-1985)
7-Coleman (1998 - only year I liked his Mr. O physique)
8-Scott (either year)
9-Oliva (any year he won)
10-Yates (1992 - only year I liked his Mr. O physique)
11-Cutler (irrelevant, I have never liked his physique as Mr. O)
That's a damn good list, though I would have also included Arnold in 73.
-
Lee Haney the last Mr Olympia EVER capable of doing the Vacuum pose.
"RIP Vacuum Pose 1960-1992" you will be truly missed. :'(

Thanks pal. :)
I bet Moosejay would agree with that list except he'd have Mentzer penciled in for 1980. But then he's weird like that. ;)
