Because the country has changed more and more from a producer to a service economy and a debt machine, people are not needed in workforce and more and more going to rely on the govt. Dem party makes it clear who to vote in for free stuff while winning hearts on a few social issues, and quite frankly out-marketing the repub "capitalists".

The short answer is people are insulated by cheap food, housing and entertainment and don't give a shit about govt debt or corruption unless it means their phone gets turned off.
