Just curious what people are wearing & think is a nice watch.
Goatboy.....feel free to chime in. I know you must have a Rolex or something
-
Right now I'm wearing a Polar heart-rate monitor watch made of rubber or plastic or something since I just got back from a run a little bit ago.
After I shower I'll put on a different one. Any requests? ::)
Polar....what model?
;D
I have an older S410
Seriously....what's in your watch collection?
-
The Nixon RotoLog with 764 white diamonds, and 1087 black diamonds for a total of 9.25 karats.
Apearantly cost over 10k lolz.

It's an S210 I've had for a couple of years.

I'm not much of a watch collecter. The one I wear most of the time is a cheap (relatively speaking) all-titanium model from Citizen. I have a Tag Heuer Carrera that I wear quite a bit too. I have a bunch of others that I rarely wear that were gifts or whatever.

A nice watch is a good value.
Here's something everyone needs though :o
The $730,000 Pen
Want to add some flair to your writing?
Pen maker Montblanc and jewelry giant Van Cleef & Arpels have teamed up to launch what is believed to be the most-expensive writing instrument ever sold. The Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece, unveiled this afternoon, practically drips with precious stones and diamonds.
Price: $730,000.
In a panting press release for the Mystery Masterpiece, the companies say craftsmen in Germany and France spent a year and a half to make each pen. The pen comes in three versions: ruby, sapphire or emerald, and all have 840 diamonds and 20 carats of gemstones. The companies will make three pens of each version, for a total of nine to be sold world-wide.
The selling point is something called a mystery setting, patented by Van Cleef in 1933, which conceals the gemstone settings and creates the illusion of vivid blossoms formed by the rubies, sapphies or emeralds. The release also goes on at length about the pens various lapidaries, grooves, facets and cutlets and lattic threads.
But does it write?
The release doesnt say. So I called called the president of Montblanc USA, who told me that the Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece does in fact write like a pen. It uses a fountain-pen system, with a fill piston, so you have to dip it into an inkwell, give the pen a twist and wait for the pen to soak up the ink.
The inkwell, it turns out, is sold seperately. (Sos the ink.) Montblanc suggests a crystal, limited-edition model. Price: $1,000.

This is all very interesting.
See here it is.....
I don't wear watches...at all. I don't even own one...but I do like watches. Make a long story short...there's times where I would like to wear a watch out to somewhere nice.
I was looking into a Rolex...nothing fancy...maybe a GMT or Submariner.....
or a Breitling
but now I am thinking of picking up a Panerai. I like the way they look & they're a nice big, bold, simple looking watch.

It's one of the Panerai models. Pretty nice.

I've liked Panerai since the first time I ever saw one.
They're just so simple...that they're different.
Watches have become very fancy or 'busy' for me.
Breitling is an exception..because it's so big & bold looking

Even thought they're kind of busy looking for me, I still want a breitling crosswind special.
-
I have a really cheap one cost £15 ($30), currently lost somewhere at the moment. I lose watches at very regular intervals.
-
Jacobs.
-
I have a nice Sako Kinetic and a cheap Skagen Titanium both work well for me

There's something about a Breitling. I wore one & was amazed on how big & heavy they were.

I have two posh watches ...one is a Movado and the other one is a Raymond Weill....i also have a guess watch when i wear normal street clothes...
-
I like Armani watches. This model is a few years old, but still my fav...... I have a Jacob jc6, and I never wear it. I discovered spending large sums of money on watches is not worth it, the second you catch your wrist on a door frame.

I had a Seiko 600m dive watch for about 15 years. The best ever. But I bought a new one last year. I love it. I like my watches big and this one is huge.

I had a nice Fossil watch my ex bought me and a nice Navy Seal watch. I won a gold watch when I won the World Championships but it didn't come close to fitting me. I gave it to my friend who I still thinks wears it.
-
yeah my dad had a 400m seiko for years too, its seen some beatings thats for sure haha
-
Rolex.
Submariner series. Blue face and gold band. Lifetime warranty.
Ballin'! 8)
-
Well...looks like I own a Panerai pam005
-
I have never been into watches. A friend of mine brought me a knock off Breitling from overseas. I wore it for a while, but it drew way too much attention. I don't wear it anymore. Not into the bling thing. :)
-
My newest watch. Love it.
-
Love the Panarai. Nice choice.
-
So far...I like it.
I am not a watch person...at all.
But...I am willing to try new things. I like nice stuff...& although this isn't their most expensive watch they make....I like it for the simplicity.
-
I wouldn't know a $20 watch from a $2000 or even a $20,000 one. I never notice them :-\ A cheap 'ol basic Timex works fine for me - although I mostly use my cell phone as my timekeeper.

A example of a "big money" watch. You can tell with the expensive big face watches, due to there size and use of diamond's.

As far as a timepiece goes, this is a piece of shit. As a piece of jewelry, maybe it's cool but if I'm gonna spend 20K+ on a watch, it's going to be a premium watch.
-
I don't wear a watch any more - just recently sold my Accurist on ebay for £25. Cost me £80 back in '97.
Wouldn't mind a Brietling though.
-
Daily driver is a Breitling B2 (shown), "cock"tail watch is an Audemars Piquet.
-
I wear a Tag Heuer.
I have a Rolex Air King I got as a gift from work, but i hate it.
the Tag just wears better.
-
Take a trip to Chinatown in NYC and spend $200, depending on your bargaining skills you'll have more watches than you'll know what to do with.
I go every couple of years and buy a few. I've bought Rolex's, Tag's and Movado's.
Tag's are my favorite though, especially the Carrera and the Link.

they are not knock offs?
-
Tags are nice
Most likely they could be knock-offs. Right now....some knock-offs have swiss movements & can be hard to tell from original.
In LA...you can buy a decent knock off for $70-$110. A guy that I know sells knock offs that have the swiss movement for $250-$500 depending on the grade. Some of them actually have original components which only a jeweler can tell after opening them up if they're a knock-off.

Royal Oak? I like your style, brutha.
-
I'd like to get a Breitling for my next watch ....or a Rolex. If I get a Rolex...I just want something simple like a Submariner.
-
Don't get a Rolex, it's played out. Breitlings are cool but those are played out too in NY.
Get creative. Look at Corum or a Hublot. Look at Piquet if you have the funds. There's probably 5-8 great great watchmakers that make sick pieces that everyone and his dad doesn't have.
-
My mum and dad bought me a raymond weill for my 18th birthday - 1st time i wore it i fell over shit faced leaving a night club and smashed it to smitharines !! :-[

Okay here is a story. A friend of mine got ahold of some great knock off watches. Rolex and every other kind. All sweep movement and just perfect. They were heavy and like you said only an expert can tell. Well my friend told me about the place and that some of the employees were new and whatever. SO he had this idea. He had a perfect replica of a certain Rolex (lots of diamonds, I think it was a Presidential or whatever). He said he wanted to go to the store and exchange the fake for a real one. I said no way and he said he'd do everything he just needed me to ask for another watch while he made the exchange. SO we did it. The guy gave him the watch and while he was trying it on I ask to see another watch. My friend made the exchange without me or the other guy noticing. He handed him the fake and that was it. The guy just simply put it back in the case. We actually stayed in the store about more minutes looking at other watches. We left and nothing happened. The last time I saw this guy he still had it. This was back in the early 80's we did this. I couldn't believe how easy it was.
I actually typed in the name of the store and decided to take it out, just in case.

The statute of limitations has run out. You couldn't be prosecuted at this point, even if anyone cared. Chances are, management, ownership, and employees of the store have turned over several times since then, if they're even still in business.

I noticed that too. Everyone here wears a "Rolex". ::)
I make more than probably 98% of the people here, and my everyday watch is worth less than $500.

i dont wear a rolex, but i also did not pay for my patek phillippe either
it was a college graduation present from my mom & dad

Well, I don't own a digital camera or even a cell phone....but I'll borrow one to get a picture of the watch I got.
(Yes....camera's to me are dumb & so are pictures....so I don't own one. Same with cell phones.....why do I want a device that at anytime...people can try & get a hold of me.)

give me some time,i have no need for a digital camera so i dont own one .so i will try to get a buddy sometime soon to take it for me
thats also why i dont talk shit about other board members body's.not because i am a nice guy just because i never plan on posting a picture,so i tend to keep my judgements to myself

it got me thinking though......
I have quite a few friends that own Rolex's, Panerai's, Breitlings....etc...
what's stopping anyone from borrowing a friends watch & posting it?

I'd rather wear a real Timex than a fake Rolex any day of the week.
Can't see the point of 'posing' with a friend's watch either.

I know a guy that owns a lot of fakes...why...no idea.
Honestly...the higher grade swiss fakes......are so hard to tell. They can cost more than you're average everyday wacth. Maybe he's just a cheap bastard.

I'd be the first one to say (warn you).... wearing a fake anything says something seriously bad about him as a person. If he's willing to be fake there, where else is he false?
-
I agree....100%
He's "shady" to say the least. I shouldn't say the word friend...more like an associate of sorts.

That doesn't mean shit....it only tells us you don't give a shit about owning a expensive watch.. ::) It got nothing to do with how much money you make in a year... :-\

Yup, but some people even fool themselves into thinking a knock off is real.

it's funny how people spend their money
Not saying I'm perfect...but I feel pretty balanced on what I spend my money on
-
I once knew a guy who bought a new BMW m3 and was always wearing designer clothes and stuff. I asked where he lived because i thought this guy would have a nice home to his name.
Then he told me he lived with his mom and dad because then he could save up for a nice home in the future! The guy was 32 when all this happened... :-\
So appearance is going a long way but it doesn't tell the whole story.. ;)
-
This brings up a good point. Say if you made, lets use round numbers, $100k a year. How expensive of a watch do you think is reasonable provided you have a home, equivalent car, lifestyle etc.?
-
Honestly....it could be a $45 Timex or a $4500 Rolex....it doesn't matter.
Not everyone wants or appreicates a nice watch, car, etc...
Making six figures per year......owning a $4500 Watch is not a big deal.
-

While it's certainly true that a wealthy person can wear a cheap watch because they don't care, or a lower-income person can wear an expensive watch because they're willing to spend a disproportionate amount of their income on something as trivial as a watch, there is generally a correlation between income and expensive toys.
Now, consider that this being a bodybuilding board, at least half the posters are in their 20's, and are students or people just starting out their careers making less than $50k/year. Basically paycheck-to-paycheck people. If you assume a normal income distribution for the other half, that means fewer than 10% of getbig posters could or should be spending money on a "luxury" watch.
Yet, when asked "what watch do you wear", 100% of respondants claim a Rolex or Breitling or similar. That tells me most of them are lying.

True...I agree with you....but seriously...how many 'different' people have replied to this thread?
I do see some people post watches they would love to have...but they're not necessarily saying they own one.

*Bump* for an update.
Panerai has been great....now I like watches.
But.....
I just got a Brand New Breitling (I won it)
Never in a million years expected it. Anyways....I'm sitting here wondering if I should keep it, or trade it for a used Rolex? It's a nice Breitling...not their top of the line, but $4000 brand new.
Any suggestions?
