It was always said Mike had a Mr. O level upper body and a Mr. State level lower body.
With calves being a crapshoot it was very common for the quads among bbers not matching their upper body. Now that problem is non-existent. Seems everyone walks around with Platz-like quads. I wonder what's changed. I think having a far more variety of equipment to train quads has something to do with it. Squats are just not a productive movement for quads for many people. The vast array of squat machine variations and leg press are much more effective. Of course, maybe it's just because more people are getting into bbing and you are just drawing off a larger genetic pool and the ones with weak legs just never make it to the public eye.
I'm not counting drugs as they make everything better but just addressing the past disproportion between quads and upper body.
