Refusing to participate in state standardized testing
« on: April 15, 2013, 07:03:16 AM »
LOL... this topic is on glen beck this morning... and I gotta shake my head and laugh...

parents calling in, saying it's their RIGHT to refuse to let their child be tested

how many of us had to take the 'Iowa basic" and other comprehensive tests as kids?

What's next - refusing to take the SATs and suing one's way into college?

I think people forget what it was like BEFORE standardized testing - and why they are used.  They don't keep kids accountable - they keep TEACHERS accountable.  Back in the day, teachers USED to be able to just teach whatever they wanted.  Math teachers could SKIP the chapter on fractions because, well, they didn't wanna teach it.  Teachers could play "Head up, 7 up" instead of learning the planets because the teacher didn't want to get the science books out of the store room.  Teachers could just tell the kids "read for an hour, i'm gonna do text my boyfriend" instead of being required to teach the separate and very important skills of language arts.

Beck is going into the "eventually, they plan BRAIN SCANS during these standardized tests, it's all a grand conspiracy to turn us all into socialist robots".

I think he's unaware of how it used to be in schools, particularly in the south... it was night and day from schools up north.  "Anything goes" used to be the motto.

I can't hate on the SAT or ACT. It's how I got my full-ride to college.

and they're optional.  Nobody has to take them.

I think the "refuse to take a standardized test" has to do with the "I will do the exact opposite of what obama's gubmint tells me to do!  Fight the power!"

Teachers are SCARED this week - and that's GOOD!  THEY are being held accountable.  Kids who are passing their classes will pass the grade level so matter what they score - The state tests can only help a kid because if you're failing a grade level but pass the test, you get to advance.

I guess some people will protest anything.  "Brain scans are coming - people don't konw their kid will be wired up into a machine before we know it!"   Really?

The question remains is whether or not the proverbial chaff actually gets separated from the wheat.

I have a sneaking suspicion that you were a horrible teacher. Thankfully you now spend your time churning out shitty websites and sitting on your ass watching MSDNC.

now entire COUNTIES are passing up the state test!

http://www.nbc-2.com/story/26386832/lee-school-board-votes-to-opt-out-of-state-mandated-testing

LEE COUNTY, FL -
In a three-to-one vote, the Lee County school board decided to opt out of state-mandated testing.  This makes Lee County the first school district in Florida to do so.

Over 200 parents were at the meeting to protest the tests. Some don't even have children in the district, but are supporting the idea in Lee County – which could set a precedent statewide.

We spoke with several parents, groups and advocates over the last few weeks who say they are sick of their children suffering from these tests.

One parent told us third grade students were held back because they failed the exams, but excelled in the classroom.

Another parent says their children now believe they can't read because the tests tell them they cannot – even though their grades show otherwise.

Now, the school district could face several ramifications.  Those consequences include funding cuts to the district and keeping students from graduating.

To read all of the ramifications of opting out of standardized testing according to the Lee County School District attorney, click here.

Speeding up the dumbing down of the "useful idiots" as Lenin called them.  Add marijuana to the equation and now you have apathetic morons that can be easily manipulated.
