LOL... this topic is on glen beck this morning... and I gotta shake my head and laugh...
parents calling in, saying it's their RIGHT to refuse to let their child be tested
how many of us had to take the 'Iowa basic" and other comprehensive tests as kids?
What's next - refusing to take the SATs and suing one's way into college?
I think people forget what it was like BEFORE standardized testing - and why they are used. They don't keep kids accountable - they keep TEACHERS accountable. Back in the day, teachers USED to be able to just teach whatever they wanted. Math teachers could SKIP the chapter on fractions because, well, they didn't wanna teach it. Teachers could play "Head up, 7 up" instead of learning the planets because the teacher didn't want to get the science books out of the store room. Teachers could just tell the kids "read for an hour, i'm gonna do text my boyfriend" instead of being required to teach the separate and very important skills of language arts.
Beck is going into the "eventually, they plan BRAIN SCANS during these standardized tests, it's all a grand conspiracy to turn us all into socialist robots".
I think he's unaware of how it used to be in schools, particularly in the south... it was night and day from schools up north. "Anything goes" used to be the motto.
