Title: Jim QUINN; is this a good look?
Post by: Nether Animal on May 03, 2016, 07:39:41 AM
One of the bigger guys at 6'1'' but that waist is pretty big. Some say he was an early case of Palumboism before Palumbo himself, but since there is no distension or atrophy I don't agree. Just a wide waist

Loved Jim, he was one of the first true mass monsters. I remember saying he could not bring his waist down do he would work his lats crazy but also legitimately threw up crazy amounts of weight. Loved him in WBF

Loved his photo shoots with Billy.  Genetically he didn't have the best lines in the world, but he had a great work ethic and packed on the muscle like few men of his day.  Tier 2 for sure.  Is that a good look?  Yes!

Bay likey!  :P :P

That dude had big delts. But his obliques were overdeveloped.

He seemed like a smart guy.

Doesn't look like Palumboism. Just looks like he's got a wide waist. Kind of reminds me of Gunther, in that sense. His arms and legs don't look atrophied (a sign of Palumboism), and his gut isn't hanging out, just very wide.

Had the pleasure of hanging out with Jim back in the early nineties with some other pro's. His waist was bigger than the other guys sitting at the table. Now, fast forward a couple of years when I met Kovacs at a backyard BBQ. Jim's waist was no where near as big as Kovacs. That is what bodybuilding has become.

On the better side, Jim was much bigger then the guys we were hanging around with BUT those guys placed better at the contest. Jim...nice guy.

I loved the photo shoots of Billy Smith and Jim. I remember asking David Dearth if Jim was smoke and mirrors and he said Jim was strong as an ox..

As an aside, for all the wrestling fans, Jim got Shane Mcmahon in shape this year for his match with Undertaker

He trained clients at the gym I used to go to. LONG story, but he confronted me after I ditched his photographer friend for a shoot after I Googled him and learned that he was a gay escort.

Yes. I had a shoot booked with the escort photographer, I found out he was an escort, I informed him that I wouldn't be doing the shoot and blocked his number, then several weeks later Jim confronts me in the gym asking if I was the guy who cancelled the shoot with his friend.

His left bicep was triple the size of his right one in that fdb pose at the 93 NOC.

yikes!!! Torn bicep of peace. He and Billy worked out at the same hours as I at Venice bitd. As I recall and this was years ago I was hitting golds at night at that time like 9-10pm. At that hour there weren't many people there. Both were big and strong. Did billy smith also have a steady training partner besides Jim Quinn?  Seems trying to remember. I always had a very strong and deep squat. One of the things that I'll never forget is that big Jim came over to the squat rack and complimented me on my squats. At the time that meant a lot to me coming from him. That day was crowded with people and in the daytime as I recall. Golds was crazy awesome back then. Still is today but it was just crawling with pros both male and female.

Of course no palumboism....this was the pre-palumboism era.
Just an extremely wide waist, even if he could have kept his obliques the smallest possible.
Arnold had a naturally wide waist too, and Benny Podda and many more. but Jim Quinn was Mr Wide Waist Olympia.
Otherwise huge hard working bodybuilder, good thing he changed his carreer. Nice guy too I think.

(and he actually measured Flex's bodyfat at minus 3%. But that was before the ninja-attack. After that Flex got into comfort-eating. You should know that !  >:( )
