Title: As requested, a few 240 pics
Post by: 240 is Back on October 07, 2007, 11:33:07 PM
I'm not sure I understand all the emotion that people have about me taking a few pics, but here they are.  Enjoy?

31 years old.  5' 10", 180 pounds. Interests include long stroller walks and eating grilled cheese sandwiches. Don't claim to be a bodybuilder, just a guy who tries to stay healthy.  I hope these pics have made a few lives more complete, as the requests for them have been plentiful.

Do your ribs naturally stick out like that or are you sucking in a gut?

Looking good, Rob. Not too many 30-something dads in better shape than that.

Mad props for putting it out there. All the 240-bashers who didn't enter can eat crow now.

...Jesus Christ.

In two years you haven't made even a inch of progress. You are like all the other idiots in
the gym who do the same shit day in day out and blab about how they "used" to be really
strong but work or family life has kept them from lifting heavy. Pathetic.

Actually, that is quite the compliment.  I've staved off the aging process for two years  :D

My goal isn't to put on a ton of muscle.  My goal is to live to 90.  My goal is to spend a ton of time with the family.  My goal is to build a successful business.  My goal is to pay off the house and retire at 45 and spend the day at the pool each day.

What are you goals, and can you please post the progress pics for your last two years of lifting?  Thanks bro!

I think Rob has come a LONG way.  He realized that it is impossible to be huge and natural and now has a reasonable outlook on what is possible as a natural.  I say good on him.

My goal isn't to put on a "ton" of muscle either. I certainly don't share the goal of living to 90.
This might surprise you but you're not the only person who'd like to make a good living, have
a family and retire at an early age. You act as if 2-3 hours spent a week training effectively
is just too much time to devote when you are so busy. Besides, if you're really not into bodybuilding
or weightlifting why are you here? Isn't there much more important things to be doing with your time?
Obviously hanging out on getbig isn't going to help you become the successful business man that you see
yourself to be.

brandishing your "gat"? Claiming how down you were to bust a cap and that you were listening to NWA in
86 even though they hadn't released any material at that time? You're a fucking clown.

As Rob builds websites for bodybuilders I'm sure he will tell you that posting on here actually does bring him extra business, his sites are top notch, but he is not going to get business by sitting on his ass, he has to get his name out there somehow, getbig and other forums are a great avenue to bring that business in.

Hi Cheap Stomach,

I'm glad you asked. I get asked all the time about my squatting numbers and I'm always happy to help a young fan.

One fateful summer, I got that free rack, a Sports Authority set, and started. I squatted 2 times a week for one heavy set of 20 reps.  Now and then I'd add deads or benching, but most of the time, it was just squats.  I pigged out at the same time- I had just quit teaching and had nothing to do but lift, eat, and play PS2.

By the end of the summer I had gained 30 pounds (most was muscle- i finally filled out) and I was regularly doing 300 pounds to parallel for 20-rep squats, just like the internet article I had read had described. (We've all read that one- and it works!)  It was at this time I joined a gym and started to break weights over 300.

315... 335... 355... the weights went up as my reps begain to dip below 20. I always had a spotter or two, and usually finished without assistance.  Soon I was using 405, with 2 spotters, every other weekend on Sunday, with knee wraps. I got up to 8 or so very sickening reps that first time, and nearly sharted.  Rough day. But I continued on. It got easier as I hit the early 420 and 430s.

Hurricane Charley came shortly thereafter and destroyed my beloved SOS Gym in Pt Charlotte, FL. So, I joined a new gym in the fall. By this time, I was working a ton and attending FT classes. I started doing cardio- for the first time in 2 years- and couldn't run 1/8 mile without stopping. Shinsplints followed. But after a while, the cardio came easier for me.

Today I usually squat without a spotter and typically don't go over 315 for 10 slow safe reps. I don't use wraps, and I don't weigh 220 anymore. I'm at 191 today.  My knees ache most days from the cardio, so I am careful about risking heavy leg work while dieting.

Cheap Stomach, I thank you for your letter. Best wishes in all your endeavors.  Also, I feel my placing at the Ironman this year was due to the fact that I am too involved in politics and that I defended my wife's Olympia placing. Peace.

-240 or Bust.

240 or Bust,

Looking at your leg development, and knowing how hard a beast like Jesse Marunde had to work to get 20 reps with 405, I have to ask:

How much of the 405 squat for 20 reps claim is true?

yeah, I had poor range of motion back then.  I see that now.
Also I was 40 pounds bigger (up to 222 at my heaviest), and used knee wraps and back braces and spotters.

Today, I dunno.  It's all about being healthy.  This morning I got up and had a banana on the floor with the rugrat watching sesame street.  We went for a 2 mil walk, then had some waffles.  Watching the Backyardigans now having our morning juice.  I know that 8 egg whites, a cup of oats, and 4 cups of crystal lite would be a better breakfast, and maybe there will be a time in the future when I do that.   I know that putting 10-15 pounds on will bring my arms back a bit, fill out the back, etc... but at the moment, it's not an important goal.  I have perfect bloodwork, great blood pressure, zero injuries.  Hitting 200 and adding muscle might be a goal soon.  Just not yet.

You play in a band. You are like 50 pounds heavier than most musicians already. I can't believe how little the guys are in the local bands around here, it makes sense for the stars, they can afford to do coke all, but these dudes have day jobs and still weigh about a buck 25. Are the guys in your band little fellas too or is that a Michigan thing?

Yeah, there isn't a single jacked musician in my town that I know of.  Most are skinny with the gut.  Musicians are, IMO, lazy by definition.  At 180 I am certainly one of the biggest and leanest.  Plus I can jump up and down nonstop for 4 hours without breaking a sweat.

Just not yet.

that would be a good way for you to get even fatter.

haven't you been paying any attention here at all?  You do not have a chance in hell of being 200lbs unless you want to be very soft and chubby.  You have at least 30 lbs of fat to lose.  It would be very ambitious for you to try to gain 10 lbs of muscle, so we are talking about you being 20 lbs lighter in shape, not 20 lbs heavier.

everyone assumes that gaining weight means gaining muscle..if Rob gains 30lbs probably 10lbs would be muscle the rest would be water and mostly fat.

he would gain size and strength...but people smaller than him with less fat would appear to be bigger.  He would be better off to lean out and gradually add weight

His group has a really nice sound.

Before I heard them a few years ago, I figured that all the bodybuilding fans hyped him up just because he's cool and he's a pro, but their music was surprisingly good.

BTW this wasn't meant as a flame at all.  I don't think that 200lbs is a reasonable goal for any average height natural BBer.

You are setting yourself up for disapointment by shooting for NPC compettitor size as a natural.

Looks like you've leaned out a bit 240.  Congrats!  :D

Thanks bro!
This is true... ive come to realize that there is a trade off. If you gain muscle you are going to shrink your life span. Anything that is productive in the creation of muscle is counter productive in logetivity. I unfortunantly am stuck in a meat head mind set of trying to gain as much muscle as possible.

Whenever I do decide to enter a bodybuilding phase, I'll stay lean, create an airtight diet, and won't get so chubby as I did last time.  Everytime I tried to diet or get consistent (before) it was always a negative thing.  (Gotta live up to all the shit I talked).  Now, it'll be a positive self-improvement thing.

Gaining muscle in a caloric defecit is not efficient. It is possible in young males and with drug users however but it isn't very effective. Im not saying to gain 50 lbs though. An excess of calories is neccesary along with heavy weight to promote growth. Adonis has agreed with me the bodybuilding is no productive in the least. Any form of growing is going to decrease your life span. Anything that promotes muscle growth will shorten your life (examples being steroids, igf, insulin, increaded metabolism// protien synthesis, etc..). Anyway that isn't the point. The point im making is that it is good to see Rob has dropped from the whole bodybuilding cult and is intrested in staying lean. When people ask my for lifting advice now i try not to get their hopes up. Infact i tell them not get into it at all and to just excercise for fun because once you get stuck in this world and obsession it is pretty hard to come out of it. I now see myself 20 lbs heavier and view it as fat. I can't get out of the obsession of being insanly ripped all the time. I notice adonis even fluctuates in weight from time to time. You eventually have to slip a little.

.. hard honest training....
i think you have to build a good base before you start complicating stuff..
trust me i'm living proof..
hard training... and more importantly.. loving to train to me its not.. trainin to get big.. . its loving the feeling of lifting heavy weights.. the muscles are a bonus

yeah, I had poor range of motion back then.

Just not yet.

nothing wrong with that, we all have our own goals  :)....

to be honest tho;having a good physique doesnt require that much time per week, it just requires consistency..3 days a week at the gym (approx total training time 3x1 hours) will take you very far
and if you dont have time( or energy) to cook good healthy meals you can always drink some of the calories. Get some protein powder and mix with oatmeal and water in a blender, have that shake 2 times per day in addition to your regular food.

You don't have to try to gain in a deficit.  You could stay at maintenance or just a little bit above.  I find it hard to believe that you would have to eat that much extra to put on a pound or 2 of muscle a year, which I think is the most you can really gain as a natural that has been training for a while.

your still trolling for advice huh rob... :-\

shit more people than god have given advice to you-----------if you havent gotten it by now (being in the BBing scene for the last 3yrs) then either your A) retarded or B) just lazy and still looking for an excuse--------------its not complicated

you had a shitty physique even when you were single and had time---now your excuse is you have a family ::)

you are the ultimate internet troll

always have been always will be :-\

you talked shit about hte people who competed last year saying you could have beat a few of them----but when it s time to compete you back out yet again even though you promised to over and over again

I doudt 240 or bust could squat an empty bar with those birdlegs let alone 405 for 20 reps,  thats just an outright lie plain and simple where the fuck is squadfather to call bullshit on that since he claims to be an authority on bullshit claims.

I ve seen more meat on a chicken Mcnugget.

Hahahah adonis and i just recently found that Eugene Sandow used to eat 4400 calories a day. True fact. I eat right now because i enjoy it. I don't even add. I don't lose wait unless i count calories.

I doubt that he had access to the nutrional guide and calories per food item during those times I doubt if he counted calories..

how many calories were in a standard bowl of stew back then? without knowing the contents you would have to "guestimate", plus factor in that many of the ingredients weren't "light"

I never said 400 x 20.

I went over 400 for partial reps.  Period.  I was 40 pounds bigger at the time.

Nordic, you have a serious hard-on for me.  What's up with that?  I posted pics, even though I looked skinny and sick.  Get on with your own life.

Eating because you enjoy it is great, I'm just calling into question the necessity of gorging to gain muscle.  I think you need more hobbies, you are making BBing harder than it needs to be.

I'd be interested in seeing the source...also note that he probably trained a lot each day, so even if he did eat this much it might not have been that much over maintenance for him.

Thanks guys.

And honestly - and I swear to God on this - I vomited about 5 minutes before taking those pics last night.  Had the flu pretty bad but wanted to get some pics up before the deadline.  So the next batch should be better.

If anyone out there is experienced in bodybuilding nutrition and wants to help me plan out a nutritional regimen, please PM or email me ciscorob5@aol.com  - I'd be happy to trade services in return.  I just need to come up with a simple 7 meal plan that'll work well with my bodytype.  Thanks!

Should be too hard to diet since you're home ALL DAY!

Hmmm....  you and JaeJonna would have been close.  It could have gone either way.   You definitely would have won the "gayest tattoo" award.

Why cover your face?  Your pics have been posted all over the place before.

Rob.

Eat 1800 calories, anything you want.  Then when you get very lean, increase your calories. Set your limit at 5 lbs over your leanest.  When you find yourself at that limit or near it, go back to eating 1800 calories. Repeat.  Its really too easy.  Eat whatever you want.

How much more difficult can you make it?

You summed up how to stay lean in 5 sentences. I'd give that an A+.

If only people could find what motivates them, they could all so easily abolish fat.

240 is a good dude and getbig's foremost legend.
but man those are some unfortunate genetics :-\

People need to stop blamming genetics.  Genetics play a important role provided that you are eating correctly and working out hard.  Come on...this guys does not include protein in his breakfast?  Bad genetics?...I don't think we can tell at this point.

I'm sure you don't have the genetics of Jay or Ronnie, but you are nowhere close to reaching your genetic limit.
