Is he still training at N. Hollywood Golds? Any info would be cool. We used to be friends, but lost touch in 1992 or so.

he failed the drug test at the worlds. then he made a "clean" comeback, turned pro and was arrested with his mom for importing huge amounts of steroids. cool legs.

that's the way I remember it...didn't he do the O one year. I know he competed in the grand prix's where Labrada and Gaspari traded off wins...89 or 88? I think it was 88, the year Demay came in looking awsome and strydom did the O.

He did have great legs. He was a real nice guy as well. I knew him when I trained at golds in N. Hollywood CA.

More accurately a physical therapist and co-owner of a gym called “The Yard” in Hermosa Beach. I ran into him about 8 months ago. He’s still in decent shape.

(Edit Note from 2017 - Sorry to share, but Luiz Freitas is not the owner of the Yard. Also he does not have a California License as a PT or Chiropractor. You can confirm on website for free. He must have misinformed you for some reason.)

That's it the yard gym in hermosa... Only place I stay in LA when I visit from sydney - love the bay area!

Was'nt this that guy from battle for the gold from 88 with amazing legs? Talked about he could'nt do dancing because his dad said it was only for gay people so he went for bb instead? From brazil right?

Luiz was likely gay, he trained with Christian in 88, I remember Christian in his overly camp voice saying "he's a good looking boy"

In 1993,94...I used to see Luiz make a Sunday morning trek up toGoldsVenice from Hermosa Beach. At that point...he looked really horrible bodywise.He truly looked untrained and quite fat. Honestly...he had the exact same body composition as Mentzer did at that same time. I remember seeing Mike and Luiz talking near the front desk and noticing how bad they both looked. Also...Luiz had a very long ponytail those days and was a full vegan from what I heard. As for these days...maybe he is back in shapeassomebody mentioned.Very nice guy he was.Yes...had trouble with law....selling anabolics.

Luiz Otavio has a couple of sons. One of them is a world Jiu Jitsu Champion and teaches the sport in L.A.

I talked to one of them once.

He was from Brazil right? Kinda surprised if he had a run in with the law that he wasn't then deported. But I guess if he has a couple of sons then maybe he married a citizen and got naturalized before any of that?
