Actually, that was in just a suit and kneewraps.  I have since added briefs, but no PR yet. ;D

you think you're going to get that bench rehab'd back up to say in the 100's in time? I know you can make it happen man. You know as well as most that the body is an amazing thing. Bring back the bench baby!

What's your raw squat PR?  ???  I'm wondering if I compete how much a squat suit would actually help or if I should just stay raw. My numbers have me looking at 610-625lb squat tomorrow off the box.

how far down on them do you go when you go super heavy? About as deep as you'd lean forward on a squat?

Thats a ridiculous percentage, do you have any scientific proof to back your claim?  ::)

I have never tried one of those machines, no gym around here has one. I have to do them on the floor with my heels hitched under a bar.

The "suitcase style" pickup is most effective for hitting the core muscles being as you must stabilize 19823 times more. From the front, might as well do real DL's.

AHAHAHAHA A sweet update...most of you will think this is lame, but I am excited like you wouldnt imagine.  I did my first "direct" upper body workout today since I was injured in 2005.  It has been almost 3 years since I have done anything noteworthy for chest, shoulders, or triceps.  I worked up to a sweet and MASSIVE ::) max bench, and did a bunch of lateral raises and stuff too.

BENCH
Up to a massive 155x1.  I shake less under 900lbs on the squat than I did on this bench.  I am literally completely uncapable of unracking the weight, but pressed it fairly well.....but its only 155 too. :D

Front Raise
45lb platex3x10

Lateral Raise
20lb Kettlebell x3x12

Pushdown
40lbsx3x20

Overhead cable extension
40x3x20

Face Pulls

actually i was just making a playful, if tasteless, joke at jason's expense. frankly, the fact that he's benching anything at all is AMAZING given what he's been through.

Jason

I did!!! when my phone goes out of range, it puts the texts in the draft box and doesn't resend... I had like 30 texts waiting for you sweetie and just pressed send ;D

Bad ass biker bars btw.

I training confused right now... trying to change my split to re-prioritize my arms...

I hit that once a year... get confused and not sure how to re-shuffle.

Here are the requirements:
Train arms and legs twice a week.
Direct shoulder work not really required (no overheads)

Here's the crazyness I came up with, chest, back or shoulders every 9 days, legs and arms every 4 days.

1- Chest Shoulders
2- Legs
3- Arms
4- Off
5- Back / Traps
6- Legs
7- Arms
8-Off
re-peate.

Crazyness #2:
1- Chest triceps
2- Back biceps Hams or quads (based on soreness)
3- Off
4- Arms Shoulders
5- Legs
6- off
re-peate.

ME SQ/DL

I didnt get to do this yesterday due to family commitments, but got it done today.

Chain Suspended SSB GM's Parallel
Up to 425x1.  PR!!! As Ive said before, GM's are BY FAR my worst ME movement.  Ive got a long torso, and suck at them.  However, they dont have a long torso class, so Ill quit mentioning it and keep doing GM's!

Highbar olympic stance squat (beltless)
135x5
225x5
315x5
405x5
455x5
505x1  Just trying to get some quad work in, helps the DL and tightens the gear up!  Jason wants pentas instead of quads!

Reverse Hypers
4 sets of 8

Ive been looking alot at what Mark Bell and the guys over at Super Training gym in Sacremento do.  It seems to be a very solid plan, and I think Im going to give it a whirl for a bit.  Also, started my new diet today. Ill go into detail if anyone is interested, but I can say it better be effective as Im eating my ass off!!!  SO MUCH FOOD!!!!

From Friday:

De SQuat with Cambered bar and Blues wrapped over tge plates rawwwwwwwww!!!!!  Very heavy at top
135x5
185x5
225x5 added blues after
275x3x2
315x3x2
365x2

DB SLDL
100x3x20

GHR
3x6

Reverse Hyper
2x20 light

Pulldown Abs
3x15-HEAVY

GHR Abs
bw+25x3x10  The addition opf 25lbs made a fairly easy exercise BRUTAL! Will help in August though!  Also, my abs are more sore than my hamstrings, hips, or low back.

All in All, had a great workout, especially after working on a roof all day installing 400lb skylights. Hopefully it is a sign of things to continue, because I am feeling strong in all of my lifts, even the crappy GMs!

Outstanding workout today.  It was short, but hopefully effective.  I ended my ME work with a real grinder, which I havent been able to do like todays, in a long time.  It was one of those lifts that if it was 10lbs heavier, wouldve probably been a miss.  A true Max effort lift today.

Reverse band box squat (14 inch box) mini bands
***Bands deloaded 50-60lbs at the bottom of the lift and ZERO at the top***  We tested it after I was done

Mastadon Bar (60lbs) counted as 45
bar x2x10
95x2x5
135x2x5
225x3 added reverse mini bands
315x3
365x1
405x1 added belt
455x1
495x1
545x1
585x1 added briefs after
675x1
765x1
845x1 PR!  Honestly, I was more excited by how strong I was out of the rack than he actual weight lifted.  Ive found the exercise I need to demolish it from the start.  Its nice, as that has been my major hurdle.

GHR
3x8

GHR Abs-THESE are what is helping me out of the monolift!
5 sets of 15+ reps

What kind of back problems do you have?  If it is mainly muscular you might benefit.  Joint/spine issues you may want to steer clear.  I honestly dont know anything better for your back both size and strength wise except for goodmornings.

Disk issues unfortunately.. had a herniated disk which luckily "resorbed" but still. Haven't dead lifted since then.

Watching "MattC"s videos alone makes my lumbar twitch ;D

ME SQ/DL from Today instead of yesterday

Conventional DL rawwwwwwwwwwwww

135x5
185x5
225x5
275x3
315x3 (add 4 chains)
365x1
405x1 (add belt)
455x1
500x1
550x1
600x1
655x1 PR! (735 at lockout!) This lift is 30lbs, plus the chains more than my best suited sumo Deadlift. I honetly believe at this point that pulling sumo is the wrong choice for me right now and conventional is the way to go.  Looks like I will be purchasing a KING deadlifter in the near future!

Lat Pulldowns (ARCH emphasis)
I do these with a 3 second static contraction at the bottom.  I feel that doing them this way helps strengthen my upper back arch for the squat.  Also gives me the muscular endurance to hold it for a grinder squat.  And it gives me a JACKED Rear Lat Spread! :P
5 sets unsure of the weight for 10 reps each

DB Side Bends
80x3x15 each side

there's a reason almost every DL record that wasn't set in the IPA/APF by a really, really short person has been conventional. while you can get 150+ out of a suit sumo easily, the body just pulls more conventional with very few exceptions.

Youre very correct sir, at least thats the way it seems to be for me as of late.  I was just excited because I beat a guy on our team who has a 740lb DL by 50lbs!  I think he quit though, as opposed to missing.

well what IS your bench? i mean, elite is 2000 for 275 and 2040 for 308 in the APF, so with your arm as it is you'd need to be practically doing 9 bills on squat and pull or a half ton and 8, yah?

You need the new Inzer Forklift Shirt! 800lbs just to get it to touch! :o

considering mendy was unable to touch with 1049 in an attempt last year, this post is actually outdated!

From Friday:

Wasnt much work to be odne really.  All I really wanted to do was make sure my suit still fit.  My weight has been all over the plave as of late, an the time to buy new gear is NOW to be ready by August.

Box Squat with Mastadon (60lbs)and Straight Weight

barx gazillion
135x5
225x5
315x5
405x1
455x1
500x1
550x1(added belt after)
640x1(added junk predators after)
730x1(added 56 Ace after, straps down)
800x1  This is a meet PR tie, done with the straps down, no knee wraps, and no circa max training.  The bar speed was rediculous.  Not to sound like a fucking blowhard, but after Fridays workout, I dont know if an 800lb squat will ever see the platform from me again.  It was unbelievably easy.

is the mastodon bar the one that's bent, or is that the buffalo?

From Monday:

Made the 2 hour drive to EliteFTS to train with Jim, Rich T. Baggins, Gerard,  and the crew at the Compound III.  By the way, Ohio traffic sucks and I70 is an absolute shithole for those of you who might be interested in traveling its unscenic pathways.  EliteFTS offices are smaller than I had pictured in my minds eye as well.  Very nice building though for sure.  Gym was huge, and (obviously?!?) the best equipped gym Ive ever been in or seen.

Training was the standard ME SQ/DL day.

Cambered Bar Box squat against Green Bands over the plates.  Im not sur ewhat the band tension was, Rich told me but Ive completely forgotten.  170 maybe?  I dunno.  It was band tension.  The hugemungous cambered bar weighed in at a beefy 85lbs, but was counted as 45 here.

135x5
225x5
315x1
365x1
405x1
500x1 added belt after
550x1 added briefs after
600x1
650x1
700x1
750xMISS-Came off of the box strong on this one, I just ended up too far forward and stalled out.  You have to carry this bar rediculously high on your back.  Partly (mostly) because there was NO KNURLING.  This bar is an absolute beast, and brutally sodomizes the rackable one we have at our gym.

Conventional Deadlifts:
Up to 620 or 670x1.  I cant remember what weight it was.  Fairly fast though, I think.  I had a strong attempt at 700 as well, but lost my grip and missed it.  Oh well.

After training we went to Bob Evans and ate and bullshitted then drove home through a feckin HUGE storm.

Buffalo bar has a slight camber.  The mastadon is the stiffest bar ever.

Saturday Training:

I made the Journey back over to the Compound III in London again, EliteFTS' showroom/gym.  I had a new pair of ACE briefs to break in, and wanted to get some weight on my back.  I knew that Jim, Rich, Jason Adams, and Matt K and a bunch of his buddies would be there getting after it as well.  Kroc got lost coming in so we helped Jason A. and his friend bench.  Jason had a gangster single ply shirt that had zero reps in it.  He worked up to a STRONG 565 at 181.  His best lift is 585@220.  He is going to demolish some guys at the ProAm in August.

Kroc and his road dogs showed up a bit later and we proceded to start squatting.  It was kind of crazy, because all of the dudes that came with him squat like he does.  Very odd, but the resemblance is uncanny.  They were some strong dudes all around as well.

Free Squats with the Mastadon:
135x5
225x5
350x1
440x1
530x1
620x1 (added 50 ACE briefs after this set)
710x1
800x1 (added 56 ACE Suit after this set, straps down)
900x1 very shaky and not too deep.  A crappy rep, but a rep none the less.  Was fast, but looked like shit during the descent.  Sat down, not back, my knees came forward, and I cut it 2-3 inches high.
900x1 SOLID LIFT AND NEW PR!  Everything on this was perfect, save for the fact that I cut it an inch high.  Jim said he thought I would have been good for 950 with the straps down, but should hut it down, so I did.

Pin 2 Rack pulls against a quadded mini
135x2
225x2
315x1
405x1
495x1
545x1
585x1
635x1  A 635lb PR!  LOL  My first time doing them set up this way, so it was a huge PR for me!  I think I quit about 2 sets before I hit a true max, but this was a good, solid lift that I was happy with.

I then got to watch Kroc, who had already worked up to 1015 and taken it for a ride twice squat 440x17.  This was absolutely unbelievable to watch.  Every rep was hams to calves.  No wonder his quads are now pentas and my quads been downgraded to biceps.  After training we went to Pizza Hut and saw some of Londons finest mullets.

You can read Jims review and see a pic of my fat bloated head here:

Fridays Sq/DL workout

From Yesterday

DE SQ/DL

DE SQ with the Rackable Cambered Squat Bar with blues over the plates. All sets were done rizzzzzzaw

bar x 100000000
135x5
225x5
275x3 (added blues after)
315x3x2
365x3x2
405x1x2
455x1x1 The band tension was rediculous, and this, for me, was a HUGE raw squat. I also found that the faster you move with this bar, the more it says. Obvious, yes, but gives me a goal for how fast the sets need to feel to be correct.

Reverse Hypers
225x4x10

Pulldown Abs
4 sets of 10

Side Bends
3x10

Monday ME SQ/DL

Bad day...felt bad all day, but wanted to get some work in...

Deadlift from floor
135x3
225x3
315x3
405x1
495x1 added belt after
545x1
585x1
635x1 aded KING Pro Deadlifter after
675x4x1 These were actually fairly fast. They were mainly to figure out how I need ot have the suit for me and how to get down to the bar. This suit is a bad mother too...made my legs bleed! If I can get my grip straightened out, I think low to mid 700 should be definitely doable.

Stretch

i always thought monolifts were easy once you figure out where to plant your feet. getting your breath is a SNAP too. i also think guys with the mega wide stance and the monolift sit the bar higher than others, but no idea.

jason, you'd better be hitting a grand by new years. that 900's pretty damn sick, considering you didn't use knee wraps.

i squat with a shoulder width stance and for some reason i could never set my feet correctly without walking the bar back at least a step.

Thanks man.  It took about 3 good weeks AFTER I was taught how to use it properly before I felt comfortable with it.  Learning to use the hips to unrack the bar and not the quads is a very odd feeling, and it took a few weeks for them to unfuck themselves strength wise.  Now i feel like a retard trying to walk anything out LOL

I have been lazy (busy?!?) and havent taken the time to log my last 3 workouts.  Im going to fix that now though!

Training from 1 week ago DE SQ/DL

i was on the front end of a head/chest cold that beat me down for a few days.  I had intended to do my speed squatting with the SSB and a Blue band.  I actually warmed up to 225 plus the band and realized that I was doing shit and completely sucked.  Nothing felt right and rather than waste time and risk injuring myself I decided to quit there.  Here is what I did instead.  I did this circuit fashion, resting 2-3 minutes between circuits.   I did as many circuits as I needed to hit my goal on the GHR, 60 reps.  I think it ended up taking 7 or 8 sets, i cant really remember.

GHR 60 reps with bodyweight only
Pulldown Abs 125lbs
Reverse Hyper 250lbs
DB side bends 90lb DB

The other exercises were done to about 2 reps shy of failure.  For being sick, I ended up getting some really good work in.

Last Tuesdays ME SQ/DL work

Stll banging it out with the cold. Was so sick I had to call in to work Monday, so I definitely didnt train. I also didnt feel like doing any true ME stuff, so i just threw in some Repeateed Effort training, with exercises I hate and absolutely suck at. The poundages will reflect this fact LOL

SSb GM's NOT suspended. I vcant tell you the last time that I did them this way.

Bar x bazillion
95x5
135x5
185x5
225x5
315x5
365x3
405x1 I hate these. This is my WORST variation of my WORST main lift. They beat my ass pretty bad though, and seem to help my upper back strength tremendously.

GHR
4 sets of 8-12 reps

Pulldown Abs
lighter weights x 3 sets of 20 plus

Reverse hyper
300x4x10

CV Pulldowns
115x3x12

Yesterdays DE (LOL) Workout

A couple of guys had some new gear they wanted to put on and try to break in.  They wanted to free squat, which was fine by me, as I feel I need to incorporate them into my training more, especially as the meet draws near.  i had the intention of doing speed work (HONEST!) but when I saw everyone hammering away doing singles, I felt obligated to not be that guy and do the singles as well.  Overall, it went VERY well, not only for me, but EVERY guy on the team, from our MUTANT 148lb'er to myself.  EVERY GUY left with a PR yesterday.  Not bad for some DE work hahahahaha

Free Squat with Mastadon ( MEET PREP)
150x5
240x5
330x3
420x2
510x1 (added belt after)
600x1
650x1 (added size 50 ACE briefs after)
690x1
780x1
830x1
870x1
930x1 NEW PR

I am starting to feel STRONG now.  Everything felt like it came out of the racks like Sam Byrds looks, so thats a good sign.  I didnt even know that the 930 was that until after I did it.  It was supposed to have been 900, but apparently it seems that Im not the only one who doesnt pay close attention to counting LOL.  Here is the odd part.  This felt more solid with just briefs on than the 900 in briefs/suit did a few weeks ago.  Im not sure why, I think it is that Im more confident now, both in myself and how the weight feels on my back.  I need to keep pounding the reverse hypers and ab work though for sure and make sure that I can support weight that my hips can squat.

GHR Abs
3x10

Pulldown Abs
3x15

Reverse hypers
3x15 to loosen the back up haha

Sled Drags
4 plates x 6 trips of ~150 feet

Jason,

We are in the works of opening a "warehouse" type of gym here in So.Cal around this time next year. It's going to be a nondescript gym located in an industrial park. It's going to consist of the just a little more than the basics and cater to athletes. Nothing big, about 15-2000sq ft but filled with equipment designed specifically for strength training......no frills. When I saw those pics it should just remind people that you don't need machines (maybe a few) to develop strength. IMO, thats an awesome gym, just the necessities.

JUST ACE BRIEFS-Suit next week to take a weight
250lb bands plus 600lbs barweight for 6x2  i would say that this was approximately 75-80% effort.  A bit of strain, but no busted blood vessels or anything

380x4x10

GHR Situps
45x4x10

Db Sidebends
100x4x15 each side

Last week of circa max

250lb band tension for all sets

60x6
60x3 added bands
150x3
240x3
330x3 added briefs after
420x1
510x1
560x1
600x1 addded suit after, straps down
650x1
690x1
740x1 (990 at top)

breakouts with same bands total weight listed
990x1
1040x1
1130x3x1 I cant explain it, but these felt more solid than the lighter weights I did. i moved my feet forward a bit, and I think its what I need to do for my real squats.  seemed to help quite a bit.  i fee good knowing that I can almost unrack Chuck V's best squat.

Pulldown Abs supersetted with db shrugs
135 on abs plus 80lb db's for 3x15 on eaach exercise.  These were HEAVY on the abs...but we have a difficult lat pulldown machine for sure.

Not a great day for me.  I only went 3 for 9, and hit only my openers.  I set a 100lb PR on my squat, and a 5lb PR on my deadlift, but wasnt anywhere close to what I was capable of.  I guess that I picked a bad day to have a bad day!  It really helped me though to have this type of day, as I now have that laser-like focus to get it done!

Goals for the next meet are the same as they were for this one.  Squat 1000.  Deadlift 700+ have a good meet, as the last 2 sucked!

Jason

Impressive squatting, man.  Damn wide stance and (from what I could tell) pretty high bar placement.  Good stuff, best of luck with the big grand 8)

hey bro..

that 700 is fucking done for sure.. looked effortless all the way to the top. Just gotta tell those damn bitch hands of yours to suck it up and hold on abit longer bro!

inspiring man.. you really took it to the iron to get where you're at and brought it to the pro-am no matter what you think. That video just makes me want 700 that much more!

Thanks buddy. Ive actually brought my stance in some here as compared to my last met.  Best decision I've ever made squat wise.  Ive found a higher bar lets me stay more upright and helps force me down, making depth easier and "loading" the suit more.

Last Thursday:

OL Squat-Gear deficient and walked out
Went back to EFS and trained with Jim. He is the anti gear whore, so I thought it would be fun to try to keep up.  Dont remember any of the sets except for the last one 570x3. It was probably 10-12 sets total including warmups. That was an ass kicker, and it was all that I needed to do. Wendler got 5. Bastard.

Training has been a tossup for me as I am slowly but surely getting settled into my new job and its hours. I did my ME sq/DL work Tuesday this week, but will definitely be suattin on Friday for DE day.

ME SQ/DL
Gear deficient free range squat
135x10
225x5
315x5
405x2
495x2
585x1
635x1
700x1
740xmiss  It was deeper than Mike Millers 1220, but thats not saying much. Sitting back, I could feel my hamstrings shutting down, so I cut it a 2 liter high and called it a day.  Much further down with it andI ould still be trying to dig my way out of the gym floor and decompress my spine.  Time caused me to cut this one short as well.  wife had to work, and I got to watch the boys for 2 hours! Great times.  My sons are so much fun, and theyre CRAZY!

Here is an average day at DC Barbell. Its normally a ME Bench day, but we had a couple guys squatting, couple guys benching, and a couple guys deloading from a meet they did Saturday.  I squatted with my OL shoes on to a box about 3" below parallel. No belt on either.

Squat:
135x10
225x10
315x5
405xx3
495x1
225x10
225x10

Didnt want to do alot, as I value walking, and being able to sit down and stand up without LOADS of pain. I know now that it was a pipe dream, and im rediculously sore. im going to start pumping these numbers up however, in hopes they carry over to my deadlift and wide stance squat. its nice to take the strain off of my hips when squatting as well.

Also did

CV Rows
3 platesx14RP 9-3-2

Cable Rows
275x12RP 8-3-1

pushdown abs with green band

Stetch

Sometimes Im "cautious" with 225 because Im sore as shit. Once you get loosened up its all good. I thought you were looking in better shape than in the past. When can we expect the 1000lb squat?

Started a new aspect of my training tonight...cardio...

Walked aimlessly around the neighborhood for 45 minutes. Mr. X is helping with my diet to lean me out some, as I am carrying way too much bodyfat. The 45 minutes was his recommendation. Will start doing this 3x per week and go from there. i am also gradually tightening my diet up, but nothing drastic as of yet.

cardio: Health benefits first, sport/activity preparation second

GPP: sport preparation first, health second.

I will be doing both, but the GPP work will be more intensive.

I know I havent posted in a week, but Ive been busy with work, and the weather change has been murder on my elbow.

Today was DE SQ/DL

reverse miniband with buffalo bar
135x5
225x5
315x2
405x2
455x2
500x2
600x2
675x5  Felt good to do some reps here. thought about going up and doing some more, but decided against it.

Arch outs
225x3x12

Basically all we are doing with this exercise is making sure that we are arching the bar out of the monolift the correct way.  After taking the bar out, you squat down about a foot and stand back up, slowly and under control.  It sounds retarded, but HAMMERS your lower back, and reinforces good technique.

TKE
Green band 3x15 each leg

Abs
3x8 heavy

Hex head DB holds
20lb DB x 3 sets of 30 seconds.  Gotta get the grip strength up to deadlift something respectable.

Saturday Accessory work

CV Pulldowns
3x15 Light weight...maybe 120lbs.  It is hard to say though. We have an old plate loaded pulldown that gets tons of weight strictly from friction. I will just list the weight used.

Lat Pulldowns
3x12 200lbs

Seated rows
270x 11RP-felt like crap...back was jacked after the pulldowns.

KB Shrugs
88lb KB 3x12  very slow, 3 sec pause at top, and 3 sec stretch at the bottom.  SMOKER

Kb Sidebends
88lb KB 3x15 each side

KB static holds for obliques
88lb KB x 3x30 sec0nds each side...These were smokers after the sidebends

i would have loved to be there while your big ass was doing quarter squats with 225. willing to bet somewhere in the gym some 140 pound kid was looking over and thinking "fuck i'm stronger than that guy!"

Nope. Weve only got like 10 guys in the club. Fortunately, it is private. The 145lb kid was doing them with me.

ME Squat/deadlift

Pin 5 rackpulls against a blue and green draped over the bar. Maybe 300-400lbs of tension at the top. I really have no idea. This is what the guys estimated it at. It was brutally heavy. Pin 5 puts the bar about an inch below my kneecap at the start of the lift.

Blue band for 5
Blue and green for 3
Blue and green for 5
135x3
185x3
225x3-add straps
275x1
315x1
365x1-ass and lats start cramping severely at the top on this one and continue all the way up.
405x1
455x1-This wasnt completely locked out, felt like it stalled out where my 700 did in August. i would not have been able to do 5 more pounds.
it was that hard.

Glute ham raises
BWx12, 10, 8-I didnt try to pyramid them down like this, it just happened that way ;D

KB Sidebends
88lb KB x3x20 each side. These were VERY hard after the deadlifting.  Odd, but I will take it.

supersetted with

EZ curl bar upright rows-for fun and profit
3x10 with 100lbs

My back and traps are already hammered, and Ive been done about an hour  :-\ I came home and did some hip mobility work/stretching

Saturrday

Free Squat

Barx5
145x5
235x5
325x3
415x3
505x1 (added briefs after)
595x1
685x1
775x1. This was slow and shitty. It felt very solid on my setup, unrack, and descent, but I tweaked something in my back at the bottom, and decided to stop there. I will say too that all of these reps were good reps. I am now making a concentrated effort to make sure that I get ALL of my squats to parallel or below, as I think this will help with both my mobility issues and my proprioception abilities.

Breakouts with suit on and straps up.

950x2x15 seconds each

After fiddling around some, I found the back pain was only present when I was squatted way down, so on with the suit and the straps! I definitely need to start doing these more. For some reason, I am having serious issues getting setup properly with the straps up. Definitely need to get that fixed!

Circuit Work

Reverse Hypers (6 plates)
Pulldown Abs (150lbs)
Leg curls (150lbs)
Chest Supported Row (3 plates)

Circuit was done 3 times, with Ten reps on each set. I only stopped between circuits enough to get a quick drink or spit in the trashcan.

After I went home I did alot of stretching and foam roller work for my whole lower body and back.
