Dem rep: Obama told us if the tax deal doesn’t pass, it’s the end of his presidency
Hot Air ^ | December 15, 2010 | Allahpundit

Alternate headline: “Blogger now opposes tax deal.”

Seriously, though: Is this true or a clever lie by DeFazio?

“The White House is putting on tremendous pressure, making phone calls, the president is making phone calls saying this is the end of his presidency if he doesn’t get this bad deal,” he told CNN’s Eliot Spitzer. Obama’s push shows that the president is going to the mat in order to push through Congress the compromise brokered with Republicans.

During the end of the healthcare debate, Obama reportedly told Democrats upset that the bill did not contain a public healthcare option that not passing it could put his presidency on the line and stall the liberal agenda for decades.

Remember, DeFazio’s one of the leaders of the liberal revolt in the House against the deal. Let’s say he looked at the whip count and concluded that there aren’t enough progressive no votes to stop the bill — provided that most Republicans, a few tea-party stalwarts notwithstanding, continue to support it. He may figure that instead of trying to persuade his own side to block it, he’s better off at this point trying to give Republicans a reason to bug out. But what could he, as a liberal, say that would captivate the conservative imagination and kick up a sudden groundswell against the deal? Answer: This, my friends. This.

The only problem with my fiendishly clever theory? As noted in the excerpt, The One has a history of crying to recalcitrant Democrats about his presidency failing, so yeah, he probably really is telling them this. And he’s not entirely wrong, given that as president he’ll take most of the blame from the public if the tax hike goes into effect on January 1.

What’s a conscientious Republican who’s worried about the economy to do? Should we … follow the Chris Christie example? Exit quotation:

“Governor Christie supports President Obama and Congressional Republicans’ compromise which ensures that during this difficult economic time no American is subject to a tax increase on January 1st,” Christie spokeswoman Maria Comella told NewsCore in a statement.

“However, if Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic lawmakers use this opportunity to insert additional, out of control spending measures, Governor Christie will oppose any bill amended in that way,” it continued.

2 years ago? Just because the President was a Republican does not mean they ran the country.

Who had control of the Senate and House in 2007? Republicans or Dems?

The Pelosi/Reid Carousel of Corruption and Crime has been nthing short of a national sized WMD on this nation.

Jail for life is too good for 99% of the far left RATS who have been there since 2007.

I believe DeFazio.

(CNN) - Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Oregon, on Wednesday claimed President Obama put pressure on Democrats to vote for a controversial extension of Bush-era tax cuts, saying it would be "the end of his presidency," but the White House says it's not true.

In an interview with CNN's Eliot Spitzer on "Parker Spitzer," DeFazio said "The White House is putting on tremendous pressure, making phone calls; the president's making phone calls saying that's the end of his presidency if he doesn't get this bad deal."

Asked by CNN's Kathleen Parker if he had personally received such a phone call, DeFazio said he had not, adding, "I won't name the members cause they said this to me, you know, not for public disclosure, I talked to one member who had that call."

DeFazio argued the plan would harm the administration, and called the deal with Republicans a "trap."

"I think this is potentially the end of his possibility of getting reelected if he gets this deal and it's a trap," DeFazio said. "It's a trap on social security and on progressivity in our tax system, and a tax on huge cuts to programs we care about because this adds half a trillion bucks to the deficit next year."

White House spokesman Amy Brundage countered DeFazio's comments.

"He (President Obama) hasn’t said anything remotely close to that and he’s never talked with DeFazio about the issue," Brundage said.

If the Dems are so much better in spending, the economy, balancing the budget and deficit control how come they lost their majority in the House after only 3 measly years?

It's the end of his presidency? Wasn't this the same argument used to pass health care reform?

With the selifsh, self centered, narcisistic, greedy pig obama, its always about him and him alone.

What a disgraceful state of affairs we are in when what is good for a piece of shit like obama overrides what is good for the people who slave away taxes to pay for the unjustified, unwarranted, undeserved, lavish lifestyle, we provide for him.
