sending money through moneygram
« on: January 15, 2008, 09:51:04 AM »
Do they require identification to send money?  Ive always used western union and they never made you show id as long as it was under $1000.  Anyone who has used moneygram before please let me know.

I sent over $1,000 through MG and had to provide ID, address as well as fill out a seperate form with more detailed info on the sender/receiver.

I paid a $15 fee, but had to provide more personal info than I would have had to if I'd used WU.

The problem is that WU is much more expensive.

I sent some money today, my fee was only $9 or so, not bad compared to my usual ~25$ WU charges.  Did not have to provide id, but MG is shit in my opinion.  I went to 2 different places, and picked up that red phone at the MG booth and never got a response.  Wasted around 30 minutes just sitting there with the phone at my ear, never got to talk to anyone.  Finally went to a 3rd place that let me fill out the form on paper and got it done.

amirite?

It worked because the source got my payment info and everything was legit, but I'm not entirely comfortable with the way the operation is run.

A red phone?

Reading sender/receiver information off to someone over the phone who probably doesn't care either way whether my 1G gets to Canada or China?

Yes, it worked.

Just seems like WU is a bit more professional.....

Never heard of moneygram being sent over red phone?  It is usually done here by person just like WU.

You need to give the operator your payment info and they give you a transaction number, which you give to the clerk.

That's how it works.
