Title: What's your gym pet peeve?
Post by: El Diablo Blanco on February 06, 2007, 08:42:43 AM
I hate people that bring in their cells and then have to make a call during their workout. I just want to smash that phone over their little skulls.

when they dont have a towel on the machine or bench. you go on it...and they come running (all 155 pounds of them) with cell phone in hand and go "hey i was using that" then they go back on the phone..."yeah you there?....someone tried to take my machine....."
i usually go see the manager who's cool with me, and say this guy didn't bring a towel and is on the phone (he hates that also). and while he's getting a speech from the manager and a warning of getting his membership suspended i laugh and take his machine anyways

It's shallow of me, because I should be better than this ;D  But mine is when people use too much weight and quarter/half in an effort to look stronger than they are. Sometimes they look at me as if I'm supposed to give them the nod of approval. I won't even look their way, as if I don't even knowledge their existence. haha

I once saw a middle aged guy reading a newspaper in between sets on the leg press. Even had I not been training legs that day, that would have made me a bit pissed.

But…

The ABSOLUTE best/worst is when I once saw a retired woman (50-ish) talking on her cell phone while doing Hindu squats inside of the only available squat rack as her personal trainer “spotted” her.

Yeah, I gotta go with the cell phone one too, that and "hanging out" or socializing.  I guess a little chat here and there is fine, but when you've got a group of guys standing around laughing and talking for like fifteen minutes...it gets annoying.

Yes, a classic gym situation....and it's always with some guy exactly like you described although they normally also have a Carboforce and Lee Haney weightlifting gloves so their savage 25 db curls don't callous thier hands.

My best memory of this situation was exactly as you described; although this little 165lb punk came running up outta nowhere - after 5 minutes of this incline bench remaning empty - and said, "Sorry bro, but you're on my heat."  I laughed and said, "oh really, I'm on your 'heat'?   Tell you what, you go sit yourself over there on that empty bench and I'll wave you over when I'm finished."   He said nothing and walked off red-faced....between sets I looked at him and laughed.

It's the whole "lumbering behemoth" act.

like they are 290 lbs of muscle.

One that i find funny is the guy who finally has 315 on the bench and he waits for 15 minutes until enough people are around before he does the set.
Title: Re: What's your gym pet peeve?

I like when one of those wife-beater warriors go to the machine area only, pound the weight a couple times within a 45 minute period, never to failure, and then go sit-down at the bar and drink a protein shake like they just got back from fighting in the Persian Wars. You can almost see the protein being absorbed into their exhausted muscles, atop their mammoth 155lb frames.

Members who don't rack the weights back or monopolize the machines by just sitting around and talking. That's where I draw the line and tell 'em to fuckin' move.

As for the cell phone issue? Shit don't bother me unless, again, they're just sitting on a machine talking. Which reminds me... I have actually seen members just walking around the gym floor talkin' on their cell phone with not so much as even LOOKING at a weight.  ::)

Also people that try talking to you while your in the middle of a set.  Like someone asking you how many sets you have left.  Can't they just wait until the set is done.

Worst one ever was this old broad asks if she can work in while I was doing pulldowns.  Being a nice guy I said sure.  She gets on and proceeds to do about 100 reps with 10 pounds.  I mean this shit took about 5 minutes to finish.  When I finished my next set she tries to get back on the machine and I simply block her and tell her to wait until I'm finished and go do something else.

Ba hahaha haha! I love this guys POSTS...

My pet peeve are the sluts that come to the gym smelling like a dirty French Whore because they have so much perfume on, their hair and make done making sure EVERY guy there notices that they have a lower-back tattoo(butterfly and/or fairy w/ some tribal) and a tounge ring by CONSTANTLY sitcking their tounge out and 'flicking' theri stud.

I think a bigger pet-peeve are the guys who are their exact male equivlent. Guido hair done, eyebrows waxed, fresh out of the tanning bed with the gold earring and 'Goldberg' type of tribal on their arm...sportin the sour stench of Dolce/Gabana cologne.

dumbbells are meant to be dropped

if you're not dropping the fcuking dumbbells, they're not heavy enough. Since when the last time you  saw Ronnie Coleman put the heavy dumbbells quitely on the floor after a set?

Someone doing a power set of 1/2" 55lbs dumbell shrugs, while standing 3" from the rack.
Not racking weights.  Some people are just above that, and after all, f**k the other members.
Guys who look like nothing on a cycle, but walk around like they're doing the Olympia next week.
Clowns who slam weights.  Usually some douchebag mistaking intensity for loudness.  I've seen people do a set of curls on the squat rack with 55lbs, then drop the bar 6" or so back on the rack...completely unnecessary.

Keyword, you're not Ronnie Coleman.  And neither are the douchebags pretending to be bodybuilder in the gym.
Thinking, slamming weight=intesity..hahah
The only time someone should slam dumbells is for flat dumbell bench.  Other than that, simply no need to.

Listen... if you are dropping the dumbells they are TOO DAMN HEAVY.  It shouldn't be that hard of a concept to grasp... just put them on your quads and set them down... same as when you picked them up... its douchebags like this that break all the dumbells so that nobody else can use them while they are being fixed (and they DO break... don't tell me you have never seen one broken...) you propably don't even rack them either do ya?  Well I hope you trip on the mess you make with broken dumbells lying around everywhere and make an ass of yourself as you fall into the rack ::) Clown.  Keep pretending you are ronnie coleman... you'd be kicked out of ANY gym for breaking weights because you wanna drop them...either that or they will make you pay for the cost to replace it. its called respecting gym property... not acting like you own the damn place...

if I see a big guy doing flat press with a pair of 200lbs dumbbells, I expect him to drop the weights when he's done. The annoying shit is when I see tiny tits doing presses with dumbbells that are 1/4 of their body weight, and they'd make noise and drop weights. shits like that wanna make you grab em by the neck and toss their ass out

go ahead and visit Gold's gym on a monday afternoon, and see how many meatheads who dispose of their weights nice and quiete on the floor. if any gym has dumbbells over 150lbs, they should expect people to drop these mothefucking weights after a full set. that's just the way it is. I never see people dropping weights at BALLY's, well, ballys' is for gays, anyway......lol. ;D gyms like bally's that does not carry any dumbbells over 80 lbs, you won't expect any weight droppings.

I slowly lay them down on the floor, I do not "drop" them... I then pick them up and walk them back to the rack.

If you can't do that, then you're probably using weight you shouldn't be... or you're just being all "harcore" (not)

I'd say the cell phone is the major peeve of mine as well...

You can do without it for the 1 hour you're "goofing" off and chatting with your friends while doing a total of 6 sets in the 1 hour you're lifting.

Are you married with kids? If so, you'd understand the need for a cell phone. At the same time, my wife knows that she is to only call me at the gym if it's an emergency. I'm not going to put myself in a position where I'm not available for my family just cause someone doesn't like it. They can call 1-800-deez-nuts if they don't like it.
Now, if you're talking about chatty bitches (men and women) who just yap for no reason, I'll agree.

I'm 34, so I know what it's like to not have a cellphone. I'm actually notorious for not having it on me because I find them to be really annoying. Fvckers always seem to call me when they're bored with nothing to say, like when they're driving. But whenever I'm away from my family, it's always going to be on me, it's just crazy not to. I am the one who protects them, and in a crisis, even seconds can make a difference. I know that may sound dramatic, but it's the truth. It would be different if we had to carry around on of those 80's briefcase phones, but these things weigh a couple ounces and fit in your pocket.

Not letting people work in

BB curls at the power rack when I need to do an actual power move

People that talk so the whoel gym can hear

People that lift like shit and then tell you how to lift

People who get "done up" to lift

Monopolizing equipment for more than 10 minutes

I got no problems with cell phones... but when people sit on their ass at a station that everyone else needs talking on the phone, that what pisses me off.  Its just plain inconsiderate. If you need to take a call, leave your station open for anyone else who needs to use it and answer your call, just not on the weight room floor... exactly what Mon_of_steel said.

If you do, you are too weak for the weight.  Go back and read the previous posts genius.  If someone can do 210 dumbells for reps, set them on his knees and rack them back up, you can too... keep the equipment in good condition by not dropping it just because you feel like it... broken weights= pissed of members and gym owners.

Wearing my headphones, wearing my hat very low over my eyes, and just sitting there motionless between sets. I'm just putting out the "Don't talk to me vibe." All I'm thinking about is my next set.

Then someone comes up to me trying to start a conversation which I have to remove my headphones and say "Sorry, what?" I'm too nice to tell them to fuck off or anything like that. I just politely engage in a conversation for a few seconds before I say "Excuse me" and put my headphones back on and start my next set. I then think of how pissed I am about them breaking my consentration between sets and use it to channel my anger into the next set. I don't think less of them for being friendly but it's just not the right time or place.

Exactly.  I'm not saying to "set" them on the floor, a little drop of a few inches is fine... and it won't break the weights. just dont deliberately drop them from a height of a foot or more... it breaks equipment, period.

Dude, I'm not angry... If was to keep it 100 myself, even I take it in every now and again just because of some crazy shit going on at work or some important event or what have you... We can't be everything to everyone every day though, and usually, my 1 measily hour at the gym is all I get to myself, so I'm gonna take it most of the time.

Dude, if you're gay, straight, virgin, I certainly don't care... You're alright by me man... It's all good.

I love the debate...

Monster animalpak Post

Haha good one. Yeah reading back on that it would probably fit good into an Animal Pak ad. Truthfully I've been training like that since about 1998 long before those Animal Pak ads starting being printed.

my brother is short as hell and he can reach the db on the ground when sitting on an incline bench...i think people have a prob when the dumbell does (what I call) the TUMBLE Of DEATH ...110-130 lbs jumping around ...

I hear you. if i let a weight go i make sure it hits the ground square so it doesn't bounce. I'm just not risking popping a bicep tendon trying to negative curl 125 lbs. to the floor. If that makes me inconsiderate, oh fucking well.

It's a gym, not a fuckin' library. Sometimes you gotta drop that shit.

And when you gotta drop that shit you should be using a spotter to help you set it down so you don't injure yourself or damage the equipment.

See, that doesn't bother me... I am actually pretty friendly in the gym... I'm only intense DURING my set. I am all about the vibe... Remember pumping iron, those guys were all helping and friendly to each other... That's how you make friends, not by being so "hardcore" that no one can approach you, it gives bodybuilders a bad name anyway.

If someone asks me about supplements, I absolutely stop to talk to them... The less ignorance about what we do and how we live, the better... You want people to stop thinking we're all a bunch of goons, we gotta stop acting like 'em... ya' know what I mean?

I try to be completely friendly if someone approaches me trying to engage in a conversation. Just someone being in a gym in the first place gets a little respect from me, but I don't actively try to engage in conversation. If someone asks for advice I tell them what has worked for me and try not to be too narcissistic.

Like I said before a simple "Excuse me" works pretty well. Most of the time if I'm talking to someone between sets I just say "Excuse me, I got my next set" and then put my headphones on before they can respond. It just puts out the vibe that casual conversation is great, but I'm here to accomplish something. Talking with people between sets is ok as long as you put out the vibe that when your next set is up it's all business and the converstion has gotta be put on hold for a few.

Pat Casey used to incline the 210's and set them on his knees and walk them to the rack at the end of his set, if he can do it Coleman or ANYONE can do it.

And thats the way it should be done, I was taught that way since day one, if you drop the weights, you can't handle the weight!

Yeah you're not the only one. When I'm at a party people tend to start talking about working out and about how great shape they were in a few years ago. Hey I don't know if what they are saying is true or not but I've had my lows where I stopped working out for months and thought I was really small and try to put myself in their place.

If you bang them down its cool but i usually notice people in front of me or in my way trying to get weights (LA Fitness mind you) so I drop them out to the side, which does make a little noise and obviously deadlifts ar gonna make some noise.

I sponsored two coworkers to my gym cause they were interested, I got them a day pass so I spent one workout with them. One guy grabbed the 30 pounders, walked up near a flat bench in front of the mirrors and then just dropped them on the floor. This guy was maybe 5'10" and about 150 pounds. I got pissed at him and told him that was uncalled for.

The same guy later in the workout was doing squats on a power rack and when he was finished he just walked away from the rack without reracking his weights. I called him on it and he just said "They got people here to do that." I then explained him that it's common gym etiquette to rerack your weights. He wasn't happy with it but he did it.

I'm a fairly nice guy in the gym.  This group of four guys always seems to get pissed when I am there because I lift pretty heavy but don't grunt and only ever made noise when I deadlifted.  One of them tried to bug me while I was doing BB rows and I just kinda blew him off but I guess his ego couldn't handle it.  These same guys and others like to stand right in front of the dbell racks in front of people doing db benches, shoulder presses, etc and also in the way of people trying to get DBs.  I hate it.

Bullshit.  Your just too weak not to drop them from 2 or 3 feet up ;D  We aren't saying you have to delicately set them on the floor... just don't drop them because you are too lazy not to.  It breaks weights, which pisses everybody off and makes you look like a dipshit.  Its totally fine to drop them a few inches from the floor, maybe even a little more... the bottom line is to have enough courtesy not to break the equipment. But to just deliberately throw them down because you just "worked way too hard" for your set is fuckin rediculous.  Its common gym rules... has been since the 60's.  Along with racking weights and dumbells when you are done with them.  I bet if you were to read any of the signs on the walls of ANY gym, they all say not to drop the weights and rack them when your are done.

There is a RIGHT and WRONG way to drop db’s.

A horizontal drop – where both ends contact the mat simultaneously – is gentler and will not screw up the connections so badly.
I have no problem with this method.
It’s the f*ckheads who drop them vertically, where one end hits and absorbs 90% of the impact, that loosens the plates and creates that wobble effect.

One more thing:
I do hate the dumbbell abusers, but it also irritates me when a gym fails to fix their loose db’s anymore than once every few months. Nobody pays gym memberships for access to faulty equipment.

I think the bottom line is that nobody has any fuckin courtesy anymore for anybody else in the gym. Nobody racks weights anymore, everybody is sitting on their ass on the end of benches talking on cell phones, dropping weights from 5 stories up, breaking equipment, etc, etc, etc... have some damn respect... thats the bottom line.

First point: I've never seen anyone with any appreciable muscle mass drop a dumbell.  We have 200lbs dumbells in my gym, and a few of the powerlifters use them on occasion in their upper body training.  NONE of them ever drop them.  They set them on their knees, and walk them to the rack (which is about 18 inches away...)

I have seen 100's of people drop the 80's though....

Second point: Don't drop the f'n dumbells, and you won't have to worry about faulty equipment.  Our gym has had to replace one of the 80lbs dumbells, one of the 110lb dumbells, and oner of the 100's is bent right now.

Not one single dumbell over 140lbs has ever been bent, or it appears, dropped in our gym.  Only the wannabe, animal pak, skull cap, camouflage pant, wifebeater posers are dropping weights.
Unfortunately, you need to let the homos train if you want to be able to keep a gym in business.

Here are mine (probably repeated before, but whatever)

PUSSY ASS SQUATTING:  I'm sick of people moving 225lbs and above a total of 3 inches downward before going back up.  Do it right, or don't do it.

POWER RACK CURLING:  This one really gets me.  It seems to me that there's a definite correlation between how small someone is and how likely they are to curl in the power rack:  smaller = more likely.  I saw this nitwit with arms about the size of a pencil lifting the bar with 5lbs discs on each side.  Now what the shit is the point of that?  Grab a small straight barbell or an EZ bar.  Shit, even do cable curls, I don't care, just leave the power rack for people that need it for real movements.

TAKING FOREVER ON A MACHINE/STATION WHEN YOU KNOW SOMEONE IS WAITING ON YOU, YET YOU DON'T OFFER TO LET THEM WORK IN, AND WHEN THEY ASK, YOU SAY "OH I ONLY HAVE 2 MORE SETS":  Fuck you, dude!!! If you're going to rest 15 years in between your sets, you should have the presence of mind to let someone else work in.  If they're sweaty, well shit, feel free to use one of the towel/spray combos that are in EVERY GYM ON THE PLANET.

Rant concluded. ;D

Shit, even do cable curls, I don't care, just leave the power rack for people that need it for real movements.

word to that. esp when there is only one power rack in the whole gym  >:(

also
- people who carry bags around with them when they train
- "monsters" with epic 22 inch tubular legs who use every heavy plate in the gym to load up the leg press for their brutal 1/8 reps
- people who chew gum. this may be petty but when I'm gasping for air I don't want to knowingly smell/taste someones elses breath
- guys who wear jeans and flip flops to train
- guys who clink the db's together at the top of every pressing movement

I hate when people drop there dumbells on the last rep of a set, if you have to do that, then the weight is to heavy to begin with!

man i almost had a fight with a stick about that, he did that like 4 feets from me, i said too leave his ego at the door!!!

Say it!

I'll drop the weights on 5 rep sets.  Come on guys..its fookin heavy.  Toss the weight down, stand up feel the rush of adrenaline, test and endorphins....growl like a wild animal.  I love it!  Its one of the best reasons to lift heavy.  Shit there's enough time in the week when you have to kiss ass to bosses and customers and be nice to in laws.  When I get under the iron and really push heavy weight, its for me.  A chance to recapture a time when  man had to go out and take what he needed to live!

And Im not going to tear a rotator cuff trying to control a weight to the ground when I just burned everything out with forced negatives.  IF they break, they break..thats what gym profits are for..and if it makes others unconfortable, thats their problem...their insecurity.

Things i saw today.

Asian guy who always wears the same camo tank top curling in the squat rack. This guy isn't tiny, probably one of the bigger asians i've seen (most in the gym are like 130 lbs or 30%+ BF) but I've only ever seen him do chest and bi's. He's in there 3-4 times a week, maybe more, but i see him 9/10 times i'm there and he's always doing chest and bi's with his buddy.

It's a university gym so all the cumdumpster freshman girls come in chat it up. I love that part. The part that's annoying is the gangbang that forms around them. 5-15 middle eastern guys all circled around them chatting it up with their weak game. It's always in the center of the gym by the preloaded barbells and you have to walk around the lingering date rape scenario just to get to your next station/bench/rack/whatever.

There's always guys in my gym with jeans and timberland boots. I've come to accept this. They look rediculous but don't seem to bother anyone because they almost never lift anything. Today however, was epic pussiness. I didn't need to use the station but i walked by it several times over the course of a half hour or so and this badass was sitting on the chest fly machine doing sweet fuck all. He had a shaved head, gay ass silver earings, the most rediculous grey stonewashed baggy jeans, one of those fake-ass rapper chains and construction boots on. I saw him do a couple reps one time as i was walking by but that's it. I did 3 sets on the dip station next to the flies and saw him do 1 set.

Why do the tiniest of tits try to dress like a monster 1987 flex photo shoot?

I have come to this conclusion, forget everyone around me,
I don't care for the guy that shadow boxes after each set, or the 3 teens that only bench press and do 30 sets of bi's,
I dont care for the lady that wears a bit to much make up and a bit less clothing (i do care but not when im training)
I dont care for the guy that does one set of bench press then goes home,
I dont care for the guy thats there everytime im there and all he does is stretch,
I don't care for the guy that always wants to chat.......I just care bout my self when i hit the gym, any problems, stresses, dramas in my life i leave at home... to be honest i dont really give a fuck bout anyone when im in training mode

Of course I notice people doing stupid shit.  There is no reason for someone to go to the gym for THEIR workout and spend half their time worrying about what the hell I'm doing.  It's flat out rude.  If they'd concentrate as much on their own workout as they do mine they might actually achieve some of their goals.

I hate it when me, only 165 lbs, trying to get my fifth rep benching 225, when some big 230 lb guy comes over, spots me, and grabs my barbell, and blasts out 10 reps of curls with it. Then shouts out "225 FOR 4 1/2 REPS!!! WHAT A BEAST". Then my girlfriend smiles and winks at him, while pointing at her cell phone. GOD I HATE THAT.

Sometimes when your pushing some heavy iron (over 100) the last thing you are thinking about is a controlled descent when you are done.

I'm not endorsing slamming them like a retard like Ronnie does, but a controlled drop is okay.

Yeah I agree, was talking to some people about it yesterday while dong DB chest presses. Almost all weights above 70 have slightly bent handles and it makes it had to press them. I drop the weight on heavier sets for me but I am doing 80-100lbs for 8-15 reps, I am sure to make the drop slow and controlled while having them his square with the floor. I almost got pissed as shit though cause later in my workout while doing DB shoulder presses this beast (who is known for his grunting hardcore 50-60lbs DB chest presses while blasting hardcore rock on his I-Pod) is right next to me and drops his 60lb DB's from shoulder height and they bounce all over with one coming within less then 6 inches of flipping onto my foot which happened to be just off the floor.

i hate it when i'm just tring to get my workout on and get out and the wannabes try to get your approval ie... first they give u the brotherhood nod like their in your class...as if! then start off by talking about how hard they train, how much they lift..one guy told me how much he lifted in school while playing football....he was in his 40's!!!another tells me he can squat the same weight i am so i look at his chicken legs and ask..."you go all the way down with that"? he says no only halfway...so i said why would you waste your time doing that.other day a guy...67yoa wife beater tshirt and running shorts starts telling me of his training philosophy..train hard or go home as he was stacking the leg press with 6 plates each side...then does his 4 inch reps! was i supposed to tell him how impressed i am? am i ranting? sorry. do stupid people know their stupid? handicapped people know their handicapped right? blind people know their blind.

I hate people that bring in their cells and then have to make a call during their workout. I just want to smash that phone over their little skulls.
Here are my pet peeves:
1. Guys who join a gym and do nothing but push-ups sit-ups and chin-ups. Even with all the vast up to date equipment and an array of dumbbells these clowns are clueless.

2. Guys on cell phones. Your there to train, don't be a pussy. Train and go home. Whatever it is can wait till your 1hr of training is done.

3. Guys that shadow box. They need to realize that THEIR IN THE WRONG FUCKING GYM. There are plenty of martial arts dojo's and boxing academy's to accomadate them. They can't press a pair of 80lb dumbbells let alone 120's or 140's if there life depended on it. Translation: i'm weak as shit and jealous of everyone else's progress in the gym but hey everyone look at me, i'm a tough guy cause I can throw hooks and uppercuts".

4. People who train on balls. They roll around on balls like a bunch of retards usually with some loser know-it-all trainer and they can't seem to figure out why they can't get any progress.

5. Personal trainers that why 160lbs soaking wet telling other people how to train. Enough said.

6. People who can't put their dumbbells away or strip the weights off the machine when they are done. Nothing makes me more sick then when a chick has to take 20 45lb plates off a leg press that some clown did his 1/4 inch reps with.

7. Guys who won't let you work in between sets. I've had pro's like Henderson Thorne and Paul Dillet let me work in on a machine and some 160lb kid is telling me that he has 4 sets to go? Ya...like thats gonna stand.

8. People who do their entire workout on a smith machine. If your training chest, pick a flat or and incline and move on so others can use it. But to do all you flat, incline and decline? Ludacris.

9. People that ask to work in, you let them, and they strip all your plates off. If you can't push it, move out of the way and wait you're turn.
10. People that take over your bench while your getting a drink of water or grabbing your weights. Where is the ettiquitte? Knowone heard of asking?

Those are my pet peeves, keep on pushing guys.

3. Guys that shadow box. They need to realize that THEIR IN THE WRONG FUCKING GYM.

You just reminded me...
My buddy (the gym owner) told me that about a week ago he had to have a "talk" with one member.

The kid usually comes in wearing his hoodie with the hood pulled down far over top his head and walks into the gym like a boxer walking to the ring. ::)

He always shadow boxes for a while off in some corner, but the other week, the stupid prick started punching the equipment.
He's using the pec-deck like it's a heavy bag!

The owner tells the kid if he breaks a machine he'd be paying for a new one.
The kid said, "No problem. I'll buy ya a new one." (I don't think he was sarcastic, just stupid.)
When the owner showed him how much a new PD costs, the kid wised up and agreed no to box the equipment anymore.

How long should it take to do squats anyway?

I guess it takes me less than 15 minutes... of course, my squat isn't that good... my form sucks and I just can't seem to get it to be comfortable... So I just use the hack squat and this neat ass Hammer machine we have now...

Just wondering...

Im such a pussy when it comes to squatting i dont even do them at my gym because i dont wanna disrespect the rack with my light ass weights. I used to go heavy but once i was doin 405 for reps and i broke a vert. My 2nd thorasic. This was summer 2004. Since then i dont go any higher than 3 plates. So i only use leg press and hack squat machine.

Honestly, I did four sets, two front squats, two single leg press, hamstring curls superset with stiff deads all before he finished.  I know because he took the rack so I improvised one and I went to do back extensions (right by the rack) when he finished.

The ultimate and I have to repeat this over and over.  I was on my last set of squats.  I have the knee wraps on, the belt on tight, I have 4 1/2 plates a side and mid set some fuckhead waltzs over and asks how many sets I have left.  I immediatly racked the weight because this dickhead fuckked up my set.  It took me 5 mintues to prep for it and a couple reps in he kills my concentration.  What an asshole. I was within a second of smacking this fool but based on the look on my face he quickly beelined to the change room and left.

i agree, no reason to mess yourself up, if you're healthy go for it, if not just be smart and back off.

I have two guys at my gym that bother me.  They both seem like mid 40's, DIVORCED, sad little men.  One guys must spend ALL day in the gym 5days a week.  He's there before I get in at 10:30 and still on the floor when I leave at 1:30.  SPends most of his time talking...but he does this really weird thing...he goes to the "dip" stand.  I dont know whats its called, but you can dip with it or turn around put your weight on your elbos and do knee raises.  Whatever its called he goes in, stands straight up, puts all his weight on elbows and squeezes every muscle in his body for like 30 seconds.  It kinda looks like he's taking a crap...Im sure its a mass builder...Im just not sure what where it adds the mass.
But
his
buddy...
This fookin guy, we call him Mr. Ocular, partly from his bulging eyes and partly from the amount of staring (at anything with tits) that he does.  He loves to "hunt" down the rare and elusive female gym member by catching her walking through the door, finding out what machine she's going to use and then using the one right next to her.  Then he stares at them untill he can get their attention whereby he acts they are initiating the conversation!
Its priceless...also he wears a weight belt for everything...including the treadmill.

Youre right. Im not messing with it. I can care less when i get those looks like "that big guy is doing the same as the little guy" But i can care less.
And i still go heavy on hack squats and leg press macine. Deep too. But im sure everyone has that one movement they could go heavy on but have a mental fear of it.

  I also hate the "expert"

This guy is usually fat and out of shape or skinny as a rail...They insist on "HELPING" you with your form or choice of exercise ...whether you want them to or not.

I'm especially sick of the "Do you play football"? comment.  WTF.  Do I have to play football to be in shape?

Well Squadfather now you know people don't like this.In the future you should have a small towel with you and wipe down the bench when done.If you care to be respectful to your fellow gym rats.

1. Guys who seem to think that the more you scream, the more weight you can lift.  (Four plates a side on the leg press, psyche up for 5 mins, then slightly bend your knees, before jumping up and congratulating yourself)

2. The idiot newbie's who take all the plates off one end of the bar and then wonder why the bar flips off and  lands on their training partner.

3. People who give incorrect advice out to people.  (I was doing pressdowns and some guy tells me to keep my elbows in. I tell him "I've just done 3 sets with my elbows in, the last one is always with more weight and a bit of 'cheating'.)

4. People who use the machines wrong.

5. People who obviously can't be bothered to find out how to train correctly.  (There was a guy the other day doing db kickbacks.  But he was just hanging his arm down and swinging it back and forward.  Even his mate, who was doing them right, didn;t bother telling him.)

We hae grunt boy at our gym.  He does bent over rows with 25's on each side and screams to high hell to get each rep up.  At first it annoyed the shit out of me but now I actually look forward to the laugh.

I saw these punks who put 4 25's a side for the bech and their goal was to strip off a 25 after a set of reps. Well buddy on one side forgot to strip off a plate and it was unbalanced and when the dude went to pick it up the whole thing bent to the heavy side where the weights slid off then flipped and crashed.  I nearly pissed my pants.

I overheard a guy giving a women some tips on bent over rows recomend she round her back more for a better stretch.  what a dipshit

Like trying to do rows on the bench machine?

this comes back to not wanting to waste money on a personal trainer who will train them to be sea lions and balance on a swiss ball

I fucking hate these guys in the gym.  Why do they always tend to be 50 somthing old men who barley weigh 180 and claim they are power lifters

biggest pet peeve:  old man balls in the locker room.  For christ's sake wear a towel.  Nobody wants to see your wrinkly bag swingin around grandpa.  One of my friends trains at the Y and he says they have a couch and a tv in the locker room and old guys will sit there butt assed naked and watch tv from the time he get to the gym to the time he leaves.....just sitting naked watching espn.
