I am sure steroids played a role, but I am willing to bet more than half were major drug addicts when it comes pain killers and recreational drugs

Average life span?

Damn, I didn't know Luke Wood and Atwood were dead.  Haven't been too up to date on the forums.
I think some deaths are not directly related to steroids...especially when the guy is past 50, but many are a direct cause.
Let's face it, heavy roid use in bbing is a complete contradiction to a healthy lifestyle.  Most of these guys have a drug problem and compete to validate their drug use.
"I have a comp coming up, so I'm on XYZ...you know, for the competition....it's what you have to do to compete."
Well...don't compete then fool. ;)  So dumb.

I don't view bbers as "gladiators" or doing something noble and impressive....it's the same as a heroin addict overdosing...no different.  You can actually bodybuild without drugs...go figure.
Smarten up.

The big problem seems to be over-use and abuse. I think that small amounts of steroids won't hurt, and you can make tons of gains with that above being natural but so many guys tend to cut down on working-out and add more steroids each time to the point where they are taking huge amounts daily.

My uncle took 1 dianabol pill each morning for 15 years, without any health problems, and is now 55 years old and about 210 ripped with a 6 pack and the biggest forearms I've ever seen on anyone personally. 18 inches at least.

You sound like the guy who says my uncle smoked since he was 15 and he's now 55 with no problems. Steroids are a risk to health. I hope your uncle lives to 100 but don't be surprised if he has heart, prostate problems, or other problems that causes him to lose that physique and become sickly before his time.

I'm pretty sure Macho Man died in a car accident.  Let's start a thread about how many guys died throughout the history of auto racing.  Or  mountain climbing.  If you want to live to be a hundred just keep doing what you're doing, sitting in front of your computer and never leaving the house.  The light that burns twice as bright shines half as long.

Yep. But not before she took off his jaw with the first shotgun blast. She hit him twice - once in the face which ripped off his jaw, and the second shot to his gut which finished him off.

Apparently, when 911 responded, they found Sally standing at the stove cooking something. And Ray was on the floor of the kitchen bleeding to death. They said they don't know how he said it without a jaw, but they heard him say something along the lines of "Sally did it".

Cops said she was cold about the whole thing.

There was a great expose article done in MuscleMag back in the day about it. Someone interviewed Sally (think it was Teagan Clive) who really got Sally to come out about a lot of stuff. Great read, but probably wouldn't find it online.

Macho man was wearing his seatbelt when he died and had very minor injurys after he crashed with the tree, he died of a massive heart attack that caused him to lose control of his jeep

Anybody put in Kristie Ramsay?

A female bodybuilder, who was stabbed and strangled to death by her boyfriend, a bodybuilder named Gordon Kimbrough (they were NPC level).

Gordon then tried to kill himself by injecting bleach into his neck, but paramedics and police on the scene were able to save him. He's still doing time, I think. Happened in the early 90s.

What a sobering thread.  But the same could be said about NFL players.  It's a sport that is very taxing on the body.  Athletes choose to engage in this sport because they love the rewards.

Young people tend to believe they are invincible.  Combine that with drugs that alter your mental state and you have a recipe for disaster.   Risky lifestyles and self-abuse have a way of catching up to you.  No one ever believes it can happen to them.

Marianna Komlos (September 3, 1969 – September 26, 2004)

Canadian bodybuilder, fitness model and Valet. She is perhaps best known for her stint in World Wrestling Federation in 1999 as Marianna and [1]"Mrs. Cleavage" Where she was the Manager and "mother" for a wrestler known as "Beaver Cleavage" a parody of the TV show Leave It To Beaver. Following the termination of the Beaver Cleavage gimmick in a scripted 'storm out' by Charles Warrington due to the absurdity of the gimmick, Marianna was portrayed as the girlfriend of Warrington (now with no gimmick), going by the name of 'Chaz'.

Komlos died on September 26, 2004 from breast cancer. She was 35.

old school getbiggers would remember her posting here on the x board back in 2002 - 2004, she could dish out an owning better than any chick that ever posted here

If you want to live to be a hundred just keep doing what you're doing, sitting in front of your computer and never leaving the house.
That is the worst possible advice for getting to 100.

Fuks sake, looks like very kunt i watched in the 80's on the WWF is dead. Most I had no idea about. Hercules, Mr Perfect, junkyard dog, earthquake, Bam Bam? Used to watch it for a laugh during the night shift when I was in the RAF on channel 4 in the UK. That was the first channel to show the american wrestling in the UK. Up until then we had british wrestlers like big daddy and other fat kunts. The american stuff was a much bigger laugh.

What a sobering thread.  But the same could be said about NFL players.  It's a sport that is very taxing on the body.  Athletes choose to engage in this sport because they love the rewards.

Guys in the NFL are the walking dead. People dont realize what they put their body through just to play week after week. They take a TON of pain meds then get shot up on game day and repeat that for 16 weeks

Well, if you engage in anything risky it could potentially kill you, I've known guys who have died riding motorcycles, bicycles, parachuting and who were just out on a boat fishing. Guy fell overboard, boat kept going.  I work construction so I have seen a couple of guys die on the job. Thing is if you live your life scared, the days are going to be long.  Bodybuilding even at the pro level is still one of the safest sports around.  Allright, activities if you don't want to call it a sport.

british wrestling was hilarious

however 'big daddy' once killed 'king kong kirk' with a big daddy splash he mistimed in a match in llandudno.

we also had alan kilby a deaf wrestler who could never hear the bell. poor fucker.

when the US stuff hit our screens it was like fucking hollywood- in the uk it used to be watched by grannies who would attack the bad guy wrestler with their handbags. seriously different watching demographic completely.

other top ones

giant haystacks
the incredible bulk
catweazle- who used to tickle people to get out of holds

fuck me UK wrestling was fucking last

He also was provided the best accommodations in so far as travel means, work schedule, compensation, etc. Vince's secretary even ordered all of his gear for him, and ring announcer Howard Finkel pissed in Hulkster's cup on drug-test day.

At one point - before the testing became stricter from media pressure - Hulkster's "cup" and test results went straight to Vince's office.

I imagine Vince would swirl the glass a few times, hold it up to an incandescent light bulb, and then "study" it for a moment before taking a whif and then a small sip - swishing it for several seconds like you would fine wine - and then proudly declaring, "The only thing in this piss is about $40 million annually! Good job, Terry!!"

I just read his Wikipedia page. 7 bullets to the head and 10 to the chest. Insane.

I remember them really trying to put him over as a strong man and he certainly had the build. Did you know of any official powerlifting/bench press events he actually competed in?

I don't know a whole lot about Bravo, but I believe the strong man thing was just a gimmick, although he was legitimately strong according to guys who saw him train.

I remember Jesse Ventura later defending the alleged assist he gave Bravo during the bench press exhibition: Jesse claimed he actually added two pounds of weight to the bar. It was funny because it very obviously looked like Ventura dead lifted the bar about halfway up. ;D

How is Coleman alive, along with Cutler, and of course...Branch Warren?
Some just aren't as susceptible to heart disease perhaps.

Once their career is over, why not blow the lid off the IFBB and the drugs involved, then bring in the government to regulate it.
Nobody has the balls...pun intended, to step up and do something about the filthy trend in the pro/amateur ranks.
Guys like Cutler are in the position to do something about the epic failure of an organization the IFBB really is....yet, you won't see it, as most of these guys are gutless. ;)
A major network would enjoy that story...as if it's not known these organizations condone drug use and their testing policy is a joke.

Not one of these guys usually stand for something noble.  Just a bunch of roided up sheep.  Supplement companies and Weider use the athletes to promote their products, but could care less about these little roid boys...believe it.

If you look at alot of the wrestlers, it was not just steriods that killed them it was generally an OD of pain pills, sleeping meds, alcohol or a combo of the both. I do not use AAS but I don't beleive they are the sole thing that kill people.

Prescription drugs like Somas & Oxy's became increasingly popular on the 90's wrestling scene due, in part, to the fact that they were legal. Wrestlers would pop pills backstage right in front of the road agents, who were helpless to do anything about it. But, there were also plenty of guys mixing combinations of booze, anabolics, rec drugs, and Rx drugs. THAT seems to be where the biggest problems lie.

There is no documented case of a pro-wrestler dying as a direct result of steroid use. Steroids were often suspected or believed to be a contributing factor in many cases, but that's about as far as it goes.

Yes: both were very talented, but needed the size to compete with the mass monsters of that period. Even then, they were still comparatively on the smaller side.

Davey really bulked up, though, after he & Dynamite split. He was on some good stuff by then. In fact, he & Ultimate Warrior were fired after it was discovered they were both receiving shipments of hGH from a British pharmacy.

I remember watching  an interview with a wrestler, maybe X-pac or Justin Credible saying that backstage alot of times wrestlers would empty their pockets of their pills into a bowl and everyone would grab a handful and down them not knowing what they were.

That really surprises me that Davey was ever a skinny guy. I always just assumed he was a natural endo who probably lived in the gym and hit the heavy weights hard. To make the transition from "skinny guy" to THAT,,,, damn, he must have REALLY been hitting the gas hard!

Here's Davey boy Smith on british tv wrestling in 1982 when he was still skinny. Fighting Ireland's nasty boy Fit Finlay   :)
This is the boring crap wrestling we had to watch in the UK back in the day.

FIRST OF ALL I AM NOT EXCEPTIONAL.
I STARTED WEIGHT TRAINING IN 1945
I DO NOT TAKE STEROIDS OR ANY PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS.
AT MY PEAK I DEAD LIFTED 230 KILOGRAMS AT A BODY MASS OF 100 KILOGRAMS. THAT IS 2.3 TIMES MY BODY MASS.
NOT AT 87 MY MAXIMUM IN THE DEAD LIFT IS 160 KILOGRAMS AT A BODY MASS OF 100 KILOGRAMS.
CHECK MY DEAD LIFT VIDEO ON www.youtube.com TO SEE HOW EASILY I PERFORMED A DEAD LIFT OF 140 KILOGRAMS AT AGE 83 YEARS.

I remember her well.. before and during getbig.

Madonna grimes is still fighting breast cancer as far as I know.. her 2nd or 3rd go round with it... I think she was still training/teaching at equinox in la up until recently though.. but I could be wrong.

This is a list of dead BB-ers on a Dutch site, could't find the English version alas. But you will recognize some names:

http://www.ergogenics.org/491.html (http://www.ergogenics.org/491.html)

(Several Dutch bodybuilders died in the last couple of years, some because of heart problems, others because of crime related activities).

Do that to any website you need translated…You have to sort of use your imagination in reading the translations.

What are they doing to cause early death?

Life on the road over 300 days a year, steroids, cocaine, alcohol, painkillers, excess bodyweight, uppers, downers, poor sleep, fast food. Plus most of them keep it up for years on end. The heart and circulatory system is placed under extreme stress from all this, hence the abundance of heart attacks in late 30's, 40's, 50's.

Its gotta be nearly impossible to live at that weight let alone make it to old age. When do you ever see sometime in their late 50's/60's that size?

Two bodybuilders from my era (1950s) died at an early age:  Floyd Page and Vic Nicoletti, who I believe were in their 40s when they died of heart attacks, if I recall correctly. Bill McCardle (not sure of the spelling) was a bodybuilder who I think was in his 30s when he passed away.  He was a friend and training partner of Larry Scott and was extolling the use of drugs to get big.

I've known 2 people die of heroin overdoses, 1 drunkard friend fall in front of a train (dead) and have 1 close friend in prison right now for drunk driving and killing a cyclist.

Meanwhile, I've known countless gym rats who use moderate to low doses of steroids and they (we) are all healthy.

I'll stick to 200 mg of test. Thank you very little  :)

All abused Steroids, lots of Rec Drugs, Drink, smoking, poor diet & lifestyle.

Not sure what could have caused the problems for them though.. ::)

Regarding the Guerrero in ring heart attack, it was scripted. Well executed by Eddie but still scripted. JBL was one of his best friends outside the ring and had been for many years, he would have broke character for sure if this was actually going down.

Plus weve seen heart attacks on camera before, the cameraman does not stick a camera in your face for all to see. The angles change & focus is placed elsewhere to not expose viewers to it. Kings is a classic example, and dont give me, "they wanted to focus on the match" BS.

That's true. It was the same with Owen Hart's death:

Quote
Television viewers did not see the incident. During the fall, a pre-taped vignette was being shown on the pay-per-view broadcast as well as on the monitors in the darkened arena. Afterward, while Hart was being worked on by medical personnel inside the ring, the live event's broadcast showed only the audience. Meanwhile, WWF television announcer Jim Ross repeatedly told those watching live on pay-per-view that what had just transpired was not a wrestling angle or storyline and that Hart was hurt badly, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

Here's another bodybuilder's name from my era (1950-1960).  Bodybuilder Tom Sansone died at the age of 38.  He was Mr. America 1958 and Mr. Universe (amateur) 1963.  There were rumors that steroids contributed to his cancer, but his brother denied that.
A funny thing, I once was watching a quiz show that had already started, and there as a contestant was none other than Tom Sansone.  I don't know if he displayed his body before the quiz, but he was dressed in a suit and tie and was in a booth to answer the questions.

Sometimes the production crew is caught flat footed and they are wondering if the performer is adlibbing.

DEAD 61 Years old

Incredibly sad news as it’s being reported that “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has died at age 61. Piper, who was born Roderick George Toombs, passed away from natural causes in his home in Hollywood. He was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2006 but was declared free from cancer last November.

Piper was a wrestling icon in the WWE, having earned the WWF Intercontinental Championship as well as the World Tag Team Championship with Ric Flair. He was inducted in the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2005.

To us horror fans, Piper was most known for his role as John Nada in John Carpenter’s They Live, a role that would turn the phrase, “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass…and I’m all out of bubblegum,” into one of film’s most iconic lines. He was also Sam Hell in the cult classic Hell Comes To Frogtown, a film that I have thoroughly enjoyed for years.

We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and countless fans. He will be sorely missed.

Smarten up.

let's be honest here. there's no bodybuilding without drugs....ok, 1 in 100,000 or less. that is not big business, therefore would not live too long in the land of the fortune amassing

Look atbthe majority of bbers (and strength guys) who die young. It's usually a perfect storm.

1 blood pressure (kidney damage. Filter water through a sponge? No problem.. Turn those kidneys into coral, kinda a problem)
2 high bodyweight, sleep apnea, etc...
3 enlarged heart (bodyweight, physical activity, anabolics, growth hormone... Add in stimulants and painkillers)
4 cardiovascular damage from stimulants and painkillers (i suppose aas as well... Such as deca)

Hardly ever "just steroids". (never knew nasser to use stims or painkillers... Just a big dude who never went off and ran 5g test/wk even after he retired)

Good friend ... Curtis Leffler.  (Mentioned earlier???)

Bill McArdle .... Mid to late 1960's. The first competitive bodybuilder I knew who passed away at an early age.

There are tons of interesting back-ground stories here if you do some internet searches.
