As for Victor Martinez, Arnold and Olympia are his best bet to topple the current champion Jay next year.

Well, then all he would need to say is something like "Vyotech has commited to funding the 2008 show, and we are looking at a June date". Instead, he remains silent and deletes posts asking about it. Very telling.why all the secrets about finances?
Don't you have to book a venue like the Denver convention center like a year out or something? Facilities like those are not always available when trying to book short-term. You'd think a deposit would already have been paid and he could give us the date at least. ::)

The problem is that the title sponsor Vyotech, pulled out of the 2007 Olympia earlier, and has not committed to too many shows for next year, except for a few. Vyotech products are still moving, and really have not slowed down much. The problem was that they spent a lot of money on advertising the Goat Whey product, which was delayed.
So they may not sponsor the Colorado Pro, which can be upwards for $50-80K, but perhaps sponsor a number of other shows, which is there strategy. So there is a good chance that the Colorado Pro show, which had its run for 2 years, just won't happen.
As for Shawn, like it or not, he pushed hard to bring a quality show to Denver, Colorado. Right in the heart of downtown. And he used a great promoter and good guy, Jeff Taylor (the NPC Chairman of Colorado) to work with him. Among other people. It was well run, and fun.
As for Keith, you of all people know how hard it is to run a good show and expo. You should me commending Shawn for at least pushing hard for two years to make it a quality event. Shawn is a 13 time Olympian top 5 competitor. That is a great streak.
You, also had a great career and run until your spider bite. So now, leaving in Vegas, you have no more excuses to get in shape. You told me you would. It would be the greatest story for the boards! But then again, I know how hard it is to motivate yourself sometimes, as we all have that problem.

Probably the reason the thread was cleaned up is because some of you choose to, instead of discussing the topic, you spew out a post or two of hatred that has the whole thread gone. Instead of trying to support the industry, some of you clearly dont care, and that is too bad.
It is easy to criticize from the seat of your ass instead of actually going to the show. As I have said it before, I have more respect for Billy Guns and Vince G for going to the O, than others who love to complain but never go.
As for Goatboy, get your act together, and try to say something positive. At least go to a show, and stop complaining about the world.

Shawn in someone who delights in the misery of others and takes every opportunity to kick people when they're down (Keith is just one example of many). We're returning the favor, as Karma is a bitch and what goes around really does come around.

We're not criticizing Shawn for putting on a show, we're laughing at him becasue it failed. Shawn has a mean streak in him and enjoys kicking others when they're down on their luck... he's just getting some of his own medicine.

It will be nice to go back to Colorado if the show is on the schedule. Denver is a great city. But as of now, we do not have the official schedule for 2008 yet. We shall listen in on Monday on Pro Bodybuilding Radio, and for those of you who can't handle an hour to listen, we will give you the Cliff note version of it later on.

This is an excellent post, but was NOT written by Ron Avidan. I've never thought this before, but I think the majority of the text in that particular post was sent to Ron to post.
In order to bring it back, they would need to modify the business model and plan on growing it over a period of several years. In my opinion, using a more sensibly-priced venue and decreasing the prize money while focusing on increasing the size of the NPC portion would make this show viable within 3-5 years.

But there is a lot involved in a show - insurance, venue, people, security, unions, fees, hall costs, sanctions, prize money, advertising, actually getting sponsors and so much more. People just figure it is so easy - but it isnt.

They've got a very loyal NPC athlete and fanbase in Colorado. On top of that, Denver is a beautiful travel destination and a great place to spend a weekend...very clean and family-friendly with excellent restaurants and plenty of arts and culture.
As I saw it, the major mistakes in year 1 (I missed this year's) were as follows:
1) Selecting a far too expensive venue
2) Awarding way too much prize money
3) Focusing too much on the pro show and failing to promote the NPC portion
Change those things moving forward and this show could become an annual event, no question!

• The venue is huge - the Olympia could be held there as well as more than enough expo space. There were efforts to find other places but they would not be downtown, which helped add to the atmosphere of the event.
• Agreed on the prize money - it didn't bring out any more or better competitors because of it.
• The NPC portion was promoted well locally but it also hurt the numbers for some of our other shows. Many competitors wanted to compete in it because of all the press in town.

If it does come to be that the Colo Pro doesn't go on...it's not a business loss for Shawn, he did a fine job of promoting the competiion and putting out a show that was well done...there are other factors that are out of his control (or any promoters control) that dictate whether or not a show is a viable business move...no matter how it happens some in the peanut gallery will seize upon it as a personal failing and let him have it. that's all i'm saying.

Lift PMed me last year telling me how right I was about Sean. He was there to help Jeff Taylor. I feel bad for Jeff. I met him at the Olympia and he is a great guy. Sorry he got mixed up with Sean though. I hope nothing bad happened to him. Weird how karma works. I better watch out. ;D

Don't get me wrong, I think that the ASC and the Olympia are great events. However, you hear soooooooo much about the Olympia, it starts to get old.
I enjoy seeing a good lineup of up new guys that may not be featured at the Olympia.Plus, the figure line up and NPC show was excellent and the Denver Wells Fargo Theatre is fantastic.
I am still waiting for the 2008 info when it is available.
